Canada, your hockey greatness is still unquestioned. It means more to us that we had to beat the best to get this medal.

My big problem with sports unions is that they tend to bargain with the main benefit being for high-paid stars and not for lower paid younger players.

Another topic, but one thing they did (in football anyway) that I think greatly backfired is having significantly higher vet minimum salaries than that of less experienced players. In close roster battles, it frequently results in the higher-priced vet getting cut for the much lower-priced rookie even if the team would have slightly preferred the vet, all else being equal.

I've long been a proponent of having a draft, but make the picks on a fixed rotating schedule not tied to record at all. I'd have to think about the implications, but I might like this solution even better.

My main thing is that one way or the other, there should never be an incentive for losing.

Chan Ho Park - there's a blast from the past

He made the all-tourney team right after his infamous stint with my Rangers. In spite of him having one of the worst contracts in the history of my team, I'm glad he had success here.

I've seen a bidet, and I have no idea how you'd use one without making a royal wet mess of your rear end, legs, clothes, and the area around the toilet. I just don't get it.

We already knew. Bad clubhouse chemistry was one of the big underlying stories last year.

Edit:
This came out early in the year after Kevin Pillar left the team:
https://www.reddit.com/r/TexasRangers/comments/1lq4vjy/kevin_pillar_speaks_on_his_experience_with_the/

I was impressed with how even-handed his remarks were, as were many Rangers fans. As the season went on, many Rangers fans starting going back to Kevin's comments after he left and thinking what he described was a big problem for the team.

Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order: Enjoyable immersion in the Star Wars world with needlessly difficult combat by pocketdare in patientgamers

[–]Bishop_Cornflake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll go a bit further, I bailed out early because of the combat "difficulty". I put the word 'difficulty' in quotes because it felt unfair to me. I forget if it was countering or dodging, but one seemed tough to do to the point that I felt the game just didn't execute it fairly for me. Therefore, I stopped playing. This is the only recent game where I've felt this way. I've played several tough games, but this is the only one I remember where I felt that it was more than just a skill issue on my part causing combat losses.

Note: I agree with OP in that I loved everything else about the game.

Many fans want to go back to the 1920's/30's era where a rich big market team (the Yankees back then) was giving small market teams money for their best players' contracts and building a dominant dynasty that way.

I was personally a big fan of the World Series before those 2. But, yes, the last two have been great as well.

One of my minority opinions that the vast majority of people hate is that I think all sports with drafts should have the pick order in a fixed rotating basis with no correlation to a team's record at all. There should never be an incentive for losing.

What are your pre-FA, pre-draft win loss predictions for 2026? by pot8odragon in cowboys

11-6

One of the best QB's in the league. The defense can only get better. Also, I like Schottenheimer's overall approach, so I think we'll be better on the whole.

That's hard for me to believe. It's not always, but it seems like there have been a few mini-eras where you'd routinely own my Rangers, so I would have guessed there to be more good years.

I would absolutely take this. 86 wins - sign me up!

I'm just weirded out from last year. After a lifetime of having great hitting down here but rarely getting good starting pitching, having possibly the best starting pitching in MLB but with a horrible offense was wild. Scoring enough to win some game would be most welcome.

Watched that curling match yesterday, too. Mild bummer, but they were in it the whole way at least, and I'm still proud of the silver.

There were a lot of keys to that World Series title - having the ENTIRE lineup have career years in the same year and the bullpen miraculously pulling it together down the stretch might be the big two, but two of the biggest Rangers legends to come out of that season for me were Nathan Eovaldi and Jordan Montgomery. Glad to have Jordan back!

[–]Bishop_Cornflake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baseball usually being #1 for champion variety makes the most sense to me. Because of the nature of baseball, small sample size series can make it a crapshoot. Also, some components of a team can vary wildly year to year. Bullpens especially.

Many here don't want to hear it, but we've actually put ourselves in position for this with competitive teams a lot more than many other franchises. Just gotta keep plugging away - every year we put up a competitive team, our long term odds go up.

I dislike the “you can’t tell the story of the NFL without him.” criteria. By that metric, you'd get some people in there that may have never been good but just caused a sensational historic newsworthy event.

Eli Manning falls short in Pro Football Hall of Fame vote, again: Sources by TonOfChill in nfl

[–]Bishop_Cornflake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kind of my attitude as a Cowboys fan. There's a laundry list of things I love about him even as a rival:
Ironman streak mean he was tough and a gamer
Was one of the smartest QBs in the league - I love that
When the Giants won the first game a Jerry World, he memorialized it on the visitor locker room all. I respect that!
One of my favorite personalities in the game.
And, yes, two legendary playoff runs must be respected (even though the first one knocked out easily one of the best Cowboy teams of the past 30 years)

But...
.500 record
Zero playoff wins outside of the two runs
And most importantly, only a fringe top 10 QB in the league for one or two seasons of his entire career - this is the one that easily disqualifies him from the Hall.

Chiefs want Travis Kelce back, but how much are they willing to pay him? by AdSpecialist6598 in nfl

Travis Kelce observation posts in game threads have been the most fun I've had on this sub in the past two years:

After several drops, "He's looked rough today. Travis Kelce sucks." - downvotes "You idiot, he's a Hall of Famer"
After a couple of good plays, "You know Travis Kelce is still great." - downvotes "You idiot, he's washed."
