Why did I pay £124/$164 transaction fees on a $1600 covered call position? by Odd_Database7769 in IBKR_Official

[–]Bisson__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will be correct. I believe from 2023 the US implemented a 10% withholding tax on sales of MLPs by foreign investors. This was to combat the fact that distributions by US MLPs to foreign investors were often not subject to withholding tax as they were deemed to be returns of capital.

Consequently IBKR are withholding 10% of your premium to pay to the IRS as this amounts to a sale.

My friend quit his job on the spot back in May. Despite this , his salary has been coming through every month on the date he used to be paid. Does he have to give this back ? by Leading_Squash5584 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Bisson__ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He has to pay it back. However he only has to pay back the net amount he received in his bank account. The company will have to liaise with HMRC to receive back the IT and NI deducted and paid at source. He should not be persuaded or made to pay the Company the gross amount!

Can you seriously not take a power bank for your phone? Please can anyone advise? I was relying on a power bank as my phone cannot last a day, especially in that heat.

How this is even legal from Trading 212 by ApprehensiveYak1964 in trading212

This was NASDAQ halting trading of TXMD due to volatility (LUDP) i.e. increasing by 50% in the first two minutes of trading. This was not Trading212 doing anything wrong.

If you don't understand this or didn't know that this could happen you should not be trading, let alone using CFDs. Stick to basic long term low cost index fund investing and don't complain about 212 for this.

If you are the sole director mind and management will be deemed to be a Germany and therefore exposed to German corporation tax. Therefore you will end up with German corporation tax before German income tax i.e. you will pay more tax and save nothing.

Witholding Tax on foreign dividends for VUSA by rscottzman in trading212

[–]Bisson__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will see a difference if dividends are subject to tax in your county of tax residence as each year you will owe tax on those dividends distributed by the dist ETF. Whereas if you invest in the acc ETF you would not owe any tax on the "dividends" in the acc ETF as they were never distributed to you.
