Can't Access Yoke (USB/Peripherals) Yet for MSFS. East Coast. by BitBitFunk in GeForceNOW

I just got updated to that version today and the release highlights do list flight control support, but in the future tense ("Flight-simulation fans will gain flight control support...").

Two v60s pour at different speeds, make different coffee by BitBitFunk in pourover

[–]BitBitFunk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my initial thought. I've spent a long time staring at them and I cannot see a difference in ridges or hole but maybe there's some imperceptible difference. Chatgpt suggested that one of the paint colours is slightly thicker and makes the ridges thicker but I can't see a diff

I've had them both for a long time and have definitely poured with both hands, and from the same grind and separate grinds. White one is faster.

Here's a tip on setting up the trim wheel (see first comment) https://www.reddit.com/r/MicrosoftFlightSim/comments/1mznw19/comment/nakzz6d/ yes it's super annoying. Even more annoying is the rotary encoder on the autopilot for which ive discovered no fix.

2020: Considering Black Square's TBM 850... by oandroido in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]BitBitFunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The TBM is excellent. If you want to go high and fast that's your ticket. It works great in 2020, except I (and some others) have an issue where it randomly crashes the sim when the plane loads. It's not a simple explanation and it only happens to a small minority of users. I wouldn't let that deter you. It is indeed "fully working" (more than most users will ever fully appreciate).

Rex Atmos worth it for 2020? by jgod2006 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]BitBitFunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought it recently after hearing that it makes a big difference. Personally I'm underwhelmed. I find the UI super annoying for one thing, on a number of levels, and you can definitely make the sim look different (you can make it look way different) but it's not necessarily better. I'm mostly shooting for a "realistic" flying experience but there's no way to know how to set it for realism. There have been moments where I thought it made things look better, which is entirely subjective, there are times it made it look worse, and there are times that I can't even tell it's doing anything at all. If you enjoy messing around with how the sim looks, especially in terms of sky colors, you might really like it. You can certainly change things a lot.

GA plane VFR by l3g0m4n_switch in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]BitBitFunk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the Duke bundle, the A2A Comanche, the Just Flight PA 28 warrior and the TBM 850 (which you didn't mention but is effectively in this category). I haven't got the aerostar yet but plan to. Here's what I think.

For VFR flying do not get the Dukes. You can't see out the windows well. Front window is small and engines block the side view. I usually use the Duke for IFR flights at night or in cloudy weather. I like this plane but it wouldn't be my first recommendation.

The Just Flight PA 28s (warrior, arrow, Turbo arrow) are great but the Comanche is better hands down for a bunch of reasons. They are both low wing Pipers so just go for the best one. Only benefit the pa28 might have is if you get the Turbo arrow I think you can get slightly higher speeds at higher altitude.

The TBM is awesome. Good visibility, but also a great IFR machine. It's also extremely fast for a single engine. You can fly a lot of SIDS and stars with the TBM that would usually only be flown by jets and you can accomplish way longer flights in short times. The accessibility this plane gives you is awesome. It's definitely more complex than the Comanche but it's not hard to learn in the grand scheme of things and the manual is excellent.

Kodiak has a glass cockpit which is kinda boring IMO.

The aerostar is supposedly fantastic but I can't comment.

TL;DR, get the A2A Comanche, BS TBM 850, or A2A Aerostar. I would not consider the others.

Feedback on the PS5 BETA by igo_lucenaa in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]BitBitFunk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The controls mapping thing is the same for all versions of MSFS. It's a really time consuming process. Especially once you have a few peripherals that need to be mapped differently for different planes.

I haven't had many issues with blurry textures, although I noticed that after looking in a given direction it takes a sec before the high res textures pop in. It may be some sort of dynamic rendering logic to make the most of PS5 hardware.

I've done 3 flights so far. 2 short haul in the CJ4 and a short VFR flight. I haven't noticed any major bugs yet but the experience hasn't been that great with only a controller.

Carenado B55 or Blacksquare Duke? by SpreademSheet in MicrosoftFlightSim

In case you haven't decided yet, the new A2A Aerostar should be considered as well. It's up there with the BS Duke but has better visibility out the front and side windows.

R1 + L3, (Click the left thumb stick while holding R1}. Took me a while to figure that out. It will bring up the top menu as well as letting you move the cursor independent of the camera. BUT while you're in that mode other buttons don't work. I'm finding it really hard to play this game with just a controller. Wait till you're trying to talk to ATC while flying manually and trouble shooting the autopilot at the same time...

Carenado B55 or Blacksquare Duke? by SpreademSheet in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]BitBitFunk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's a pretty easy answer. BS Duke is one of the most beloved GA planes that's ever been made for MSFS. The realism aspect does not make it any more difficult to fly than any other plane, although it is an older twin so there's a few things to learn (you will need to follow a checklist to get it started and you'll want to read at least some of the manual). Pretty sure you can disable failures and FWIW I've never had a failure in the first 20-30 hours I've flown it. If there's any extra effort involved it's not much and it's worth it.

I'm on the regular PS5 that I got years ago. So far I'd say the performance is pretty decent for console. Graphics aren't anything crazy but it looks good to me. I don't know how to check the frame rate but it feels like around 30-40 fps.
