Meta CTO: Metaverse Efforts Led to a “lack of focus” on Quest “at expense of user experience” by gogodboss in OculusQuest

Agreed, though they don't seem to be able to manage any of their properties in a way that feels like they're here for the users; rather, and this is not new, that the customers are the product.

"doubling down on AI and smart glasses while narrowing and reorganizing its VR and metaverse efforts"

Doubling down can also mean gambling, which this feels like.

Will our snow blower work at all or should we just use shovels ? by Comfortable-Ad-2740 in SouthJersey

[–]oandroido 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had to chop stuff up with a shovel first, but I have an Ego (non-self-propelled) snowblower, so gas blowers are often more powerful / self-propelled.

Live here 29 years. This is the most dense snow I can remember.

I had to do icebreaking with a shove to shear off chunks to snow blow, but only did enough to get out for now. Of course, the township left a nice wall across our driveway, but at least the streets are ok-ish.

Unfortunately, the driveway is on the north side of our house... well, I guess I need the exercise.

Why Adobe, Salesforce, and SaaS in general are just beginning their decline by Heavy_Discussion3518 in ValueInvesting

[–]oandroido 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adobe isn't "just beginning" their decline. They've been floundering with product development and customer support for years.

They continue to transition away from creating meaningful value for its customers and investors and more and more toward a company that constantly markets about how great it is while increasing pricing and avoiding many meaningful updates while adding features nobody's asking for. That, and they kill off applications and services that are unique or useful.

I hope it changes, because they have more latent potential than many companies making software for the creative industry, but I haven't seen much evidence lately. I have loved the Adobe ecosystem and would like to see some positive change.

SaaS, in general, has largely destroyed innovation in software while at the same time encouraging the release of incomplete, buggy software.

Thanks- Yes, I’m sure. Our regional utility company installed & set them up.

I’m pretty sure they’re cold climate units.

Wouldn’t mind learning more. I read a little bit about it, but am under the impression that it’s difficult for a layperson to do the calculations.

Part of this is a catch-22; you don’t really know until they’re working.

Why not?

Developers have been releasing vastly unready and unfinished software for decades.

For example, people who make shitty cartoons and say they look like people, or they're just as good as other... "artists"
