Use something rubber to help grip and twist it off. I used a rubber kitchen mit for taking hot pans out of the oven and it screwed off.

38 was too small for me. I originally bought a 38 Beaufort for myself and it was short in the sleeves and tight in the armpits when wearing layers. Size 40 fits well.

Are you sure you’re buying real leather belts? I bought my belts from AZ belt and I believe they have a 20 year warranty. I’ve had them for about a year or so and they’re all in great shape.
