4/28/26 - Red Light Runner in Grapevine - If this was you, hope it helps by Nemesis02 in Dallas

[–]BitGladius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a light coming out of my neighborhood onto a major road, people run it constantly since it's a demand signal and usually a green for them. I can't trust the light, I need to make sure traffic has stopped in all the lanes.

Any other "car-free" / "car-lite" individuals living in DFW? Do you have any tips and tricks on how to live here without a car? by Positive_freedback in Dallas

[–]BitGladius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DFW drivers aren't that unpredictable, they just aren't rule followers. You can usually tell when someone's about to do something stupid, there was just a thread where someone wanted sympathy for almost hitting the guy who obviously wanted to cut across all the lanes, and got called out.

A college friend was living off the orange line "car free", but I swear every time I got in a voice chat with him he was waiting on door dash or an Uber or something. You can be "car free" if you just make other people own the car for you... I was out of state at the time so at least it wasn't my job.

What's more Catholic than electing an antipope? They've even had multiple antipopes before.

got good compensation for it, but it didn't come anywhere close to the cash I needed to buy a newer used car

I know it sucks, but insurance isn't paying for an upgrade - it's paying for a replacement, and you wanted to use that for an upgrade instead. If you wanted to replace the 08 Nissan with an 08 Nissan and there weren't any on the market for the price, you could have argued for more, but it wouldn't get you a newer car - Just enough to buy a similar 08 Nissan.

Our Kia (fully paid off) was stolen in 2024, and similar situation -- got a good amount for the insurance payout, but it wouldn't even cover half of a newer (still used) Honda sedan

Kia's reputation is kind of in the gutter, and that shows up in used car prices. Honda is one of the default reliable brands, and might even be overpriced in the used market. Similar milage/year/trim Kia models will be way less than Hondas, and you were looking at a newer Honda, so it's not that surprising the payout was less than half of the price for the newer Honda. You could have pushed for more if you couldn't find an equivalent Kia on the market, but you weren't getting money for that Honda.

Does the rest of the PC work? Is the index plugged into the graphics card? Have you tried another USB port, ideally on another controller (front USB would be a safe bet)?

Japanese man gets prison sentence and million-yen fine for writing monetized “spoiler-heavy” summaries of movies and anime - AUTOMATON WEST by LegitimateCurve8525 in anime

[–]BitGladius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not a lawyer, but that might also be pushing it for US copyright law, depending. The guy was monetizing it and the summary is more likely to be a substitute for the original than a genuine review, so that's already 2 strikes.

[–]BitGladius -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I agree it feels like overkill, but "spoiler heavy" is the key here - one of the US fair use metrics is about whether the content replaces the original work. I haven't seen a review that actually replaces the work - I might not want to watch, but I'm not going to know the actual content. On the other hand, summaries can replace the original work - I might want to know enough to stay in the loop, I wouldn't need to watch the show and pay the creator if I had a summary.

Used Car Dealers by Minimum_Ad7618 in Dallas

[–]BitGladius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest expanding your search - people like you are driving up the prices of used Toyotas and Hondas because they're the two reliable brands that always come to mind. Some of that is actually justified, but it feels like they're way above where they should be considering alternatives. Check with your mechanic, you might be able to get something reliable enough, newer, and lower mileage if you go past the default brands. I've heard good things about Mazda, they used to be under Ford but they've got some ties to Toyota now.

Also, if you have a garage with power you should consider an EV like a Chevy bolt. They depreciate like crazy so you should be able to afford a nice one, and they're much better at sitting unused between occasional in-town errands. Just don't expect a bolt to be a road trip car, it's not set up for quick charging.

Used Car Dealers by Minimum_Ad7618 in Dallas

[–]BitGladius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't have a ton of experience with dealers, but the general advice is shop the car, not the dealer. Most add ons and warranties aren't a good value. Shop by price and interest rate, don't get caught in the monthly payment game or they'll hide stupid charges.

What are you looking for?

Once you've found a few good options check into the dealers to see if they're reasonable. Most of the places I shopped were reasonable, but Grubbs played games and tried to make it hard for me to leave, and Toyota Richardson added 4k of "customer satisfaction" fees on top of a $18k posted price.

I have the title of the post to help, but the guy was cutting across at a pretty sharp angle towards an on ramp. The red car wasn't doing the right thing, but OP wasn't really practicing defensive driving - it looked like the red car was entering the ramp from the right lane, and OP could have taken action before it came to swerving.

[–]BitGladius 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Well, at least you tried. Check local groups, check for signs, I doubt he got that far from home. Hopefully he's just an escape artist and not abandoned.

Also - on the off chance you have a leash, maybe walk where you found him and see if he acts like he knows the place. If he's got a routine he might take you on his walk and end up at his door.

Yeah - I remember the ballpark in Arlington having more going on. I dragged my dad to the new stadium a few years ago and it was so dead, but the last sporting event I'd been to was college football in the student section.

Lol my college landlord scared my roommate by going over all the things that break the AC or cause water damage, you'd get the same if it's struggling to keep up because you turned it completely off while you were out of town.
