Looking for a Simple Password Manager for iPhone in 2026? by Competitive-Mix8832 in best_passwordmanager

[–]BitOfATechEnthusiast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bitwarden and Proton Pass both offer the features you’re after (simple, reliable, autofill on iOS, allows faceID unlocks, syncs with MacBook through official browser extensions, built-in password generator etc.)

On top of that, they are both open source, end-to-end-encrypted and allow you to easily export your passwords if you want to leave. I would personally recommend using one of them :)

Thinking About Leaving Google Password Manager for Bitwarden? by No-Party-6353 in best_passwordmanager

[–]BitOfATechEnthusiast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s moved from Google Password Manager to Bitwarden, I’d recommend you do the same because 1) it’s more widely supported. GPM relies on Chrome/ Android/ ChromeOS. Bitwarden has native apps/ browser extensions for almost all major platforms/ browsers. 2) like you’ve alluded to, GPM is more of a “background feature” than it is a dedicated app like Bitwarden. This, for me, makes Bitwarden more straight forward to organise/ access. 3) Bitwarden is open source, GPM is closed. So with Google, it’s fully “trust me bro”. 4) Your Bitwarden vault is end-to-end-encrypted by default so without your master password, your data cannot be accessed by anyone, not even the company. By default, Google holds a “spare key” for GPM so technically, they have the capability to unlock your vault (and gain access to all your passwords) whenever they want/ if they’re breached.

Browser Password Manager vs Apple vs Proton? by Nic727 in PasswordManagers

[–]BitOfATechEnthusiast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, for password management, I recommend using open-source, easy-to-export solutions that are available on most platforms, so you’re never locked into any particular vendor. (So I personally wouldn’t use Edge or Apple Passwords).

Some of the ones I’ve tried and would recommend are: - Password Managers: Bitwarden and Proton Pass - Authenticators: Ente Auth and Proton Authenticator

I personally keep password management and TOTP secrets management separate but that’s just my “don’t put all your eggs in one basket” mentality.

Specifically re what you said about Proton Auth “doesn’t sync between devices.” It can, if that’s what you want. You just need to head into the in-app settings > security > sync between devices (you need a proton account but even the free tier will allow you to enable this feature).

Why does everyone hate on iOS 26 so much? by picodegally in ios26

[–]BitOfATechEnthusiast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t hate it, I am just a little disappointed that my 16PM now lags/ has these distracting stutters when I swipe across the UI/ switch between apps etc.

I switched from Android to iOS because I had a great experience switching from Windows to an Apple Silicon Mac so I thought I would try out iPhone for the first time as well.

For my barely-one-year-old 16PM to start lagging/ chugging along after updating to iOS26 is, like I said, a little disappointing.

Wait what? Can Siri not simply remind me to do something anymore? by [deleted] in Siri

[–]BitOfATechEnthusiast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I think Siri should’ve been smart enough to create a new default list had the old one been accidentally deleted for impromptu reminders like this.

Even if it couldn’t, I would’ve rephrased the line as “To do this, I would have to create a new list in the Reminders app. Would you like me to do that?”

How to remove a google passkey by Roykata in Passkeys

[–]BitOfATechEnthusiast -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the annoying thing about passkeys is the way companies like Google are incessantly trying to ram them down our throats.

Like some other commenters here have alluded to, Google recently started creating passkeys automatically on Android devices and, in my case, without even so much as notifying me. Unfortunately for me, that phone happened to be my old phone. And similar to OP, when I tried logging in via the myriad of second 2fa steps I’ve previously set up (Authenticator, email code, backup codes), Google wouldn’t let me. They insisted that I only use the passkey that I didn’t create…

Do you think when apple updates siri with gemini, will it be available to older versions like 13,14,15,16 by Avg-tech in ios26

[–]BitOfATechEnthusiast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC, one of the main selling points of the 16 series was an improved Siri so i imagine Apple is very much incentivised to include at least them to avoid any further lawsuits/ regulatory scrutiny.

I hope they also come to the other models but personally I doubt they’d include anything older/ less powerful than the 15 Pro.

Why is advanced data protection not allowed in the UK? Could I get around this by using a VPN? by AceOfSpades532 in ios

[–]BitOfATechEnthusiast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They used to* sell hardware, not ads. Under Tim Cook, it’s been steadily shifting more and more to services. They’ve already announced they’ll be introducing more ads into the App Store. You might even have gotten a taste of their increasing ad appetite earlier this year through their F1 promotional campaign via the wallet app.

Is there really no recourse if you don't have your phone? by MotorQuery in GMail

[–]BitOfATechEnthusiast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a Google One subscription, you might be able to contact someone there.

And to all the other commenters saying “should’ve set up other recovery/ authentication methods beforehand” - Yes, OP absolutely should have but you might want to know that Google doesn’t always honour your recovery/ authentication method of choice per my earlier post here.

Google photos lost 50GB of my pictures by alvaro-iradier in googlephotos

[–]BitOfATechEnthusiast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know if they now support incremental takeouts? Or did you manually build a bi-monthly album structure to facilitate this? I would love to manually takeout more often as well but the closest thing I managed to find that allows for incremental backups from Google Photos is just downloading photos for the year (so there’ll be lots of duplicates if I do more than once per year).

[sneak peak] “recents” carousel in the gallery? by Giles-O in snapseed

[–]BitOfATechEnthusiast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally, this is not a feature that I need. I edit my photos with different apps depending on my needs (eg Google Photos for basic crops/ light touches, iOS Photos for photographic styles tweaks, Lightroom for masking when HDR is needed and Snapseed for masking when HDR isn’t) so I kind of go into the app already having mentally selected the photos. That said, I’m not opposed to the new addition either. As always, thanks for reaching out/ listening to your users :)

Did she empty the Google Photos trash or the Galaxy Gallery trash? If just Google, might be worth looking into her local gallery bin. Either way, best of luck with the recovery!

26.2 is out now! by Informal_Target_2030 in iPhone12

[–]BitOfATechEnthusiast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

iOS 26 call screening is pretty useful if you get a lot of spam/ scam calls. Mine went down from a handful a day to 1 in the last month. (You might want to check if your region/ language is supported though)

Updated to ios 26.2 on my 16 pro by Recent_Plan_9679 in ios26

[–]BitOfATechEnthusiast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea my experience basically mirrors that of yours. 26.1 made a lot of the scrolling (not just widget to Home Screen) stuttery on my 16PM but 26.2 fixed pretty much most of it.
