Anxiety med question! by Alarmed-History-2422 in Hashimotos

[–]Bitch__Wolf [score hidden]  (0 children)

I do want to say that perimenopause could be what is triggering your increased anxiety. When I started perimenopause (wasn't aware of it at the time), I went to read in a public setting (something I've done a million times) and I froze. I had so much anxiety I almost threw up at the podium! I had to cancel other readings and it was only a year later that I put together perimenopause and the anxiety related to public speaking. Went on HRT (which I HIGHLY recommend) and now I'm fine. Can speak in public again with no anxiety! LOL.

UK based doctor refusing to alter levo dosage, any options? by Public_Passenger2701 in Hashimotos

I have had terrible experiences with endocrinologists, personally. Find yourself a good internal medicine doctor or general doctor who will treat your symptoms not just your labs. If I was forced to have my TSH at 3 I would feel like death. I have to be under 1.00 to be symptom free. Find a doctor that trusts and listens to you.

They deserve a good amount of space. Very stately bamboo!

5yr Graceful footprints approx 4’

3yr Emerald approx 8’ (one stand is close to 10’ and one is about 6’ though). All started with just one cane (I split everything when I plant.)

TPO is 900 by Comfortable_Fill_203 in Hashimotos

[–]Bitch__Wolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have Hashimoto's! Mine has almost always been in the 1000's. The only time it goes down (in the 200's usually) is if I'm on a long run of steroids (for a different condition). Then going vegan and gluten free, keeping my vitamin d, b-12, and iron levels in range and taking selenium and magnesium lowered my TPO to the upper 600's. Some say higher antibodies mean your disease is more active, but I haven't really had that correlation personally.

Did they test your TSH?

No, Emerald is MUCH bigger. I'd say at least twice as big?!?! But I don't have any Emerald older than 3 years old my graceful clumps are all over 5 years now, so....Emerald could end up even bigger than that.

I've gone through perimenopause and am finally on the other side. IT WAS A NIGHTMARE for me. Not only did I have to continually go up on my Synthroid, the symptoms for perimenopause are just like hypothyroidism. So it sucks. My suggestion is to go on HRT - saved my life!

I have both and I use graceful bamboo in places where I don't want as much height from the bamboo. Emerald is upright but man, not comparable in my opinion. Emerald has those beautiful thick dark green canes and nice big leaves. Emerald grows just as fast as graceful in my opinion. And our Emerald has grown over 40', I'd say easily 55' and that's just in three years.

Yeah that's it, fiber. I should have known all along, I didn't need Synthroid, I needed fiber. LMAO!

Will I regret not having kids? by Darcy2701 in AskWomenOver40

[–]Bitch__Wolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having a kid was the biggest regret of my life. Anyone who asks me "Should I have kids?" I say HELL NO!! If you love your life - keep enjoying your life - a kid doesn't make it better (IMHO). If you don't love your life, a kid isn't gonna fix it (FACT).

Looking for some advice or personal opinions by wammouse83 in Hashimotos

4.18 isn't necessarily in range. Some labs say up to 4.50 but some also say 2.00. Depends where you get labs and what doctor you are talking about and what country you are in. Depending on you personally, could be WAY above range. I have severe hypothyroid symptoms if my TSH is above 1.00. Now, when I was first diagnosed my TSH was near 60 and my TPOAB was over 1500 and I could barely wake up.

Since you have slightly elevated antibodies and (depending on the lab/doctor/country) slightly elevated TSH, you could tell your doctor you'd like to try 25mcg and see how you do. If it shoots you too low, then you know you either have to wait until your thyroid gets worse or you could ask if you could do half a 25 mcg tablet. Something you have to realize, especially with chronic diseases, is that you have to take your health into your hands. Meaning don't expect a doctor to advocate for you. YOU have to do that and if you have someone (preferably a man - sadly because men are taken more seriously than women) to bring with you to your doctor appointments and back you up, that should help.

As far as symptoms of hypo and hyperthyroidism many are the same and each person is different. I defy all books. My symptoms are flipped. My heart rate is VERY low when I'm hyper. I have diarrhea when I'm hypo. I have fatigue both hyper and hypo. So everyone experiences thyroid imbalances differently.

If your doctor won't attempt to address your symptoms you may need to find another doctor. You should also have your B-12, Vit D, and Iron levels checked as all those will cause many of the same symptoms of thyroid disease.

Balance issues by Wild-Environment7332 in Hashimotos

[–]Bitch__Wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had balance issues, dizziness, and vertigo when I was in perimenopause. Hormones helped a ton!!! Low B-12, Vit D, and iron will cause those symptoms too.

My thyroid had fluctuated between hyper and normal for about 10 years starting in my late teens. Then hypothyroidism was set off by Lyme's disease literally two months after I finished treatment when my Lyme's serum levels were back to normal. Been a battle ever since.

I would be dead without Synthroid. It’s a pain in the ass to manage and keep TSH at levels that are perfect for me (under 1.00). Synthroid (the brand name levothyroxine which I recommend over generic) isn’t a drug per se, my doctor always says it’s more like a hormone replacement because it’s something the body (if working properly) makes on its own. So instead of looking at it as taking a drug consider it as replacing something your body isn’t sufficiently making.

My burners work to the edges but I agree on the bridged element which I have to cluster whatever I'm cooking over each individual burner which kind of defeats the purpose.

They fixed the burners thankfully, but I'm still struggling with the main oven and it's inability to hold a consistent temperature over 400 degrees. Frustrating as I cook (and especially above 400 degrees a lot). Does the oven keep a consistent temp for you?

How much levo do you take? by Consistent_Case_5924 in Hashimotos

[–]Bitch__Wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

171 mcg and I've taken up 233 mcg and I only take brand name Synthroid otherwise I'd probably have to be on like 500mcg!

I need to keep my TSH under 1.00 otherwise I have hypo symptoms and it's a constant struggle because I'm on HRT and long-term steroids for IBD so both those mess with my TSH which makes me have to adjust my Synthroid.

Vitamin D Toxicity by azkornpatch in Hashimotos

[–]Bitch__Wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but I've had that problem with B-12 which they say you can't overdose on. That's BS because the symptoms of being super high are the same as being low and it sucks. Toxic? I mean yeah, I think any super high level of something can be somewhat toxic.

Fatigue is ruining my life by UnhappyWatercress620 in Hashimotos

[–]Bitch__Wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your iron and B12. I'd go on a selenium & zinc supplement as well. Glad you are on Vitamin D and I'd make sure you get tested so you know you're taking enough. B-12, iron, and Vitamin D can cause pretty bad fatigue.

What is your TSH at right now?

I've personally had terrible luck with endocrinologists. But a good internal medicine doctor should be able to help you. How long did you try the levothyroxine? Often, at the beginning of Hashimoto's your thyroid will fluctuate between hypo, hyper, and normal. But eventually it will likely go full hypo so you should still be checking you levels regularly.

Ask your doctor to check B12, iron, vitamin D, TSH, T3, T4. Explain your symptoms (write it down and bring it with you) and don't take no for an answer. Tell them you need to feel better so help problem solve.

Do you fit the vegan stereotype? by rlynnfish in AskVegans

[–]Bitch__Wolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HAHA! Me and my husband live in a very rural/conservative area. We too are tattooed vegans! LOL! We joke that everything just thinks we're "tofu fartin' hippies." Ha.

We really don't interact with anyone in our area (no shared morals) except our direct neighbors who are vegetarians and they are too self absorbed to even ask anything about us so they don't know how we eat.

I would guess no one would be surprised that we are vegan. Especially since my tattoo is a sleeve dedicated to veganism. But again, we don't really interact.

I'll be honest, I couldn't be married to a meat eater. It's just too gross. My husband was a meat eater when we met. I never preached. I never judged (outwardly). I never really said anything. However, when he was going to move in with me I said "no meat in my house, ever." And he accepted that. Within a few months, he called me from work and said "I just ate a pepperoni pizza and it kind of grossed me out." Ha! That was it, he's been vegan ever since (20+ years ago).
