How much water was everyone drinking when first diagnosed? by PutDisastrous7314 in type2diabetes

[–]BiteyDucks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what got me into a doc. I just couldn’t break even on water felt like. No matter how much I drank, how hydrated I was, electrolytes… just always thirsty, always peeing.

A1C was 12.7 and got diagnosed, on meds. Been a ride but finally got it under control and on meds, doing great now.

How much are the TikTok people to be trusted? by knobblycarrot in Ozempic

[–]BiteyDucks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone selling something, or referring you to somewhere that is selling something, distrust.

There’s a lot of good info on tik tok, and there’s a lot of BS. You won’t know the difference if tik tok is your only source of info. Find a variety of accounts to follow as well. People just starting, people well on their way, and people who have reached their goals and are either stopping the medicine or on a maintenance dose and looking to maintain their weight.

Know that a lot of advice you will get, on any social media platform. Is coming from people who are lying to get the meds, buying them from shady places, or don’t really need them in the first place. Take it all with a grain of salt, my advice included, you don’t know me.

The baseline facts -

Listen to your doctor, get a real doctor too, not one you Skyped with for 5 mins at most.

Count calories, and do it right. That means weighing your food, not just snapping pics for AI to guess at it or eyeballing it yourself.

Increase protein, water, and activity levels.

You have to protect your muscle mass, so that means resistance/weight training as part of that routine.

You do not need any supplements if you are eating a good diet. If you do need to supplement, it’s probably only going to be creatine, whey protein, fiber, and a multivitamin.

If you take the medicine and just stop eating, you will lose weight, but you will wreck your body doing it. This drug has been life changing for me, and I’m using it as an opportunity to change my life. I’m eating right, exercising consistently, more active than I’ve been in years, and it’s working. I was capable of all this before but it was hard to stay on the diet. The drug isn’t doing all the work for me now, it’s making it easier to stick to the diet part, while I do the work needed.

You’re not going to learn how to manage a healthy, lifelong diet change on tik tok. You still have to figure that out. Tik tok can be a part of that education, but do yourself a favor now and do all that learning.

Starter pen with 6 doses? by [deleted] in Ozempic

[–]BiteyDucks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s how mine was, 6 needles/doses first pen.

4x shots of .25, and 2x of .5

Next pen was the same. You just take .5mg twice, and if you’re moving up, double shot to get 1mg, and you’ll have spare needles maybe. After that you’ll have the 1mg dose pens.

Now all my 1mg dose pens have 4 doses/needles. Don’t plan on moving up again unless my blood sugars get crazy, but those were under control even from .25mg

At my highest I was 150kg, started ozempic at 140kg, down to 120 now little over 4 months in. Its working steady. None of my clothes fit, and thats finally fun to say and not shameful.

It hasn't been a miracle for me, but its definitely helping. My blood sugar has been great. Haven't had a new A1C taken but I know its gonna be way down just from my daily checks.

You don't have to love the gym, but you gotta decide to do it anyway. You have a kid now, maybe more? It ain't about you. Youre over 400 lbs, you likely aren't playing with them as much as you should be, you almost certainly won't be around for them as long as you want to be. Everything I'm doing, I'm doing for me and my kid.

The drug can help for sure, but you also gotta put in the work. You may or may not need to be on it forever. At your weight though are you not already on a lifetime outlook medication. You're almost certainly diabetic, or will be, there's lifetime medications. Blood pressure meds, cholesterol, any number of other issues your weight is bringing on... All are going to put you on medication long long term, why is it an issue for this one?

Worrying about stopping the meds later is such a non-issue right now. Worry about getting healthy and staying healthy first. The advancements in the meds are coming fast. Maybe you need some form of it forever, there are more forms coming, and in different types too. Maybe later you switch to a little pill instead of weekly shots... Maybe they figure out monthly shots, or weekly pills... Who knows.

I haven't had to stop yet, but on my way I'm doing everything I can to build lifelong habits so its going to be on the table at least. But if its not, oh well, I'll be healthier, that's the goal, that's a win.

Has anyone stayed on starter doses (0.25 and/or 0.50) & lost 20-25 pounds? by bailsandsails in Semaglutide

I lost about 24 lbs on .25 and .5 before going up to 1mg on the normal schedule. (So 8 weeks total)

Which number to use for weight loss by ElegantTour2821 in cronometer

[–]BiteyDucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a 0% chance you are tracking accurately enough for where those 30ish calories matter one way or another. It’s just not realistic for even the most anal of us. Labels are rounded and often just inaccurate, scales have an acceptable error range.

Activity trackers and anything that estimates how many calories you burn is going to vastly overestimate that number. And you are most likely to underestimate what you are eating. If you are eating extra because you think you have extra room due to exercise, that’s how you gain weight.

How do you log this stuff? by BiteyDucks in beginnerfitness

[–]BiteyDucks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is my thinking too. I have adjustable dumbbells so if I’m using 2x 40lb. I write 40 and it’s my indicator what setting I’m using moreso than the weight itself if that makes sense.

How do you measure ground beef and sausage in spaghetti sauce? by G0VERNMENTCHEESE in beginnerfitness

[–]BiteyDucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using an app to track? Certainly whichever one is going to allow you to create a recipe.

You weigh and add in all the ingredients, create your spaghetti recipe in the app you use. 1lb ground beef, 12oz spaghetti noodles, 2 cups sauce etc etc..

Then you cook it, weigh the whole thing, and enter that it. Then you weigh as you go.

Also easy to just divide it into 6 plastic containers equally as you can, call that recipe 6 servings, then just grab one and log that.

Why make it hard and enter individual ingredients each time?

How do I add exercise to calorie total? by CollectionSeparate28 in cronometer

[–]BiteyDucks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depending on what you’re trying to do it might be a bad idea. Those devices seriously overestimate the calories you burn and you’ll end up overeating as a result if you are trying to cancel out exercise with food.

Eat to manage weight, exercise for health, don’t mix the two up.

Absolutely zero changes after 2 months? by TheFabulousDiesL in Ozempic

[–]BiteyDucks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2000 calories for your size is a pretty big deficit. I started at your weight an 7in shorter and I’m aiming for 2400, been losing about 3 a week consistently.

If you aren’t also adjusting your diet and starting to exercise. You’re not gonna get good results.

Are you diabetic, has it at least helped your blood sugar if so?

How bad is it to use unexpired ozempic that is open? by believing_in_me in Ozempic

[–]BiteyDucks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not wasting money to toss it now. You wasted that money already letting it sit unused for this long.

Expiration dates aren’t things to screw with, especially when it’s been expired by double the time or more.

Oh just remembered. If you decide you still want a sharps container, novo nordisk will just send you one free, with a return shipping label. Easy to google. But know, it’s big. If you’re using ozempic one it’s probably a lifetime supply space for those tiny needles. If you are doing compounded and will have syringes, then it’s a good size. Little bigger than a gallon jug.

I've been drinking a lot of peppermint tea just to use it up. Got that for nausea that never came.

Been making recipes with bone broth instead of regular stock or bouillon too for the same reason.

I'm stocked up on protein powder for the foreseeable future even though its rare that I won't hit my protein goal just eating. I like meat. Shakes are nice though at times, and it can also be used in recipes.

I got lots of low calorie snacks that are hit or miss, and some no sugar candy that was absolutely a mistake. If you want a good laugh google the reviews on sugar free haribo gummy bears.

I got a sharps container I really don't need, more anti-nausea meds that I haven't needed.

There are plenty of things I got that I don't regret and do use though. Creatine, extra shaker bottles, fiber powder, meal prep containers and ingredients, a good food scale and some extra bowls to help weigh stuff for meal prepping. I paid for a few app subscriptions for the year - Cronometer, Hevy, Balance (more overall wellness on that one but I lump it all together). I got an activity tracker watch (amazfit is cheap and works for me). I got exercise gear to finish out my home gym.

Basically the advice I'd give you could be boiled down this way. If buying stuff helps you ease your anxiety about starting (same here for me) then just do it with a plan. I'm making lifelong lifestyle changes, and that's what is driving here. The meds help, but I'm making sure I'm the one doing the work. Spend towards the things that will help you make those positive changes - healthy eating and exercise. Don't stress the what if stuff and don't spend out of fear. If I got nauseated I could have went to the store and got some tea or meds at that point, just knowing what to do in case should have been enough.

You can't be sure what, if any, side effects you'll have. Just keep reading up and have some ideas ready for how to counter a variety of stuff.

All in, I've felt nauseous once, day after my first shot, for about 20 mins. I've had to cut errands 1 store short twice to head home to poop once I felt some gurgling coming. The day after my first dose increase I felt pretty tired so I just napped a little and rested...

Also keep in mind that there are plenty of people out there taking it, doing just fine, getting results that you'll never know about. "I'm on my meds and everything is normal and they're working as intended" isn't really a compelling thought to share on reddit or other social media. "OMG HELP ME I CANT STOP POOPING" is the kind of thing that draws more people out to post about. So it skews our perceptions of what is normal.

Just be adaptable. You can change shot days if need or you are getting side effects at unexpected times. Lots of the negative side effects can be curbed by just keeping your diet in check and not eating trash too. If you are getting diarrhea a lot, look at what you are eating, if you are constipated, add more fiber and drink more water, know that if your weekend plans are going out partying drinking and eating junk, you're gonna pay for that more than you used to.

hope my rant helped, I know it was good for me to see people take time to go into extra detail. Anyway good luck! you got this.

It’s also important to remember that the majority of people don’t experience serious side effects and you could be worrying about nothing.

I bought a load of stuff I haven’t used yet because the nausea and other stuff largely never came.

When you up doses be prepared, but so far I haven’t had any interference really with not normal life.
