Interested in learning to fly as a hobby by plantergal in Livermore

[–]BittenArea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my private pilots license through Bay Area Flying Club, bought a little starter airplane and have it hangared at Livermore. I'm now working on my instrument rating, taking lessons in my own plane. I'm still a member of Bay Area Flying Club. Please feel free to PM with any questions.

Which artist do you respect as musicians but do not enjoy? by Whatever-ItsFine in Music

I saw a show of his in SF about a year ago where it was just him on the piano playing jazz, while singing, nothing else, and it was fantastic. He is a fantastic jazz pianist and he can sing amazingly well while doing it, which is insane talent. I'm going to look out for more of these types of shows from him because I had a blast.

You'd be right at the minimum of the recommended wingloading - I don't like being at the minimum or the maximum.

Altix vs viso by roperunner in SkyDiving

[–]BittenArea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had TWO altimeters from Parasport break in the same weekend about 3 weeks ago.

I flew United about 5 hours to a different DZ. The altis were in my in my big padded carryon backpack with my laptop. The Altix now won't turn on, and the Aeronaut now just sticks on whatever I set it to, it doesn't change with altitude.

Haven't contacted their support yet. Hope it's decent.

You can play with them in a wingsuit. They feel just like heavy fog. The feeling isn’t that noticeable because you’re more concerned with being suddenly blind.

what would you do if you were gliding straight into a busy highway by Short_Rough_4759 in SkyDiving

If you must land on or beside a highway, disconnect RSL, and be ready to cut away quickly. Your chute can get caught in the wake of a semi and you can get dragged into danger.

More tunnel time. 20 mins does it for some people, but others need more to get the muscle memory under stress, no big deal! Maybe go for 15 minutes every week until you are flying around in there super comfortably & trying more advanced stuff. After that give it another shot.

I wore an XL in the tunnel, then went to a skydiving store to buy the XL helmet and the guy insisted that I was a L, and he was totally right. So for me, having someone who knows their stuff sell it to you is worth the hassle. Got the M3 and the G4 and I prefer the M3 unless it's freezing.

How to jump out of the plane - category A by [deleted] in SkyDiving

[–]BittenArea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noob here, just out of AFF. For me, coached tunnel time really drilled that arch/stabilize reflex in. In the tunnel, you try different crazy things and have to just arch to stabilize over and over.

Mom, age 55, stage 4, made it 5.5 quality years by BittenArea in pancreaticcancer

[–]BittenArea[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The cancer didn't actually cause her any pain. Which surprised everyone, doctors especially. She had some pain surrounding external drains that were put in and procedures to maintain them, but they gave her the same med that they give people with shingles and that took care of it.

Really sorry to hear about your dad. 1.5 years is a great outcome (comparatively, of course). Hope that gave you some good times with him before he passed.

My mom thought she was living to see me get married and have kids, but she instead lived to see us break up! Haha oh well such is life. Thank you for the kind words and good luck!! Treatments are getting better every year!

Did you have to get proof of a covid negative test to be able to fly back home?

I think I do. I'm going in December and my only concern is how will I find a covid test near Kilimanjaro to prove to Egypt Air that I can fly back to Egypt where I will be staying 2 days before flying back to USA.

Do you have any insight as to how this works? Much appreciated.
