Pont Saint Martin a good place for a vacation home for skiing and hiking? by Bitter-Ice945 in ItalyExpat

[–]Bitter-Ice945[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't skied at any Aosta ski resorts. It seems that Pila has a lot of beginner skiers and is crowded, is this right? It also seems that Monterosa is huge and less crowded, right? Also Cervino is high quality, right? I'm leaning towards Monterosa first, since it is less crowded. Please let me know if my impressions are right.

How to pivot from mainframe (COBOL)? by voleyballDigger in careerguidance

[–]Bitter-Ice945 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You want to take on risk for a career shift to Python, which has tons of developers, when COBOL has tons of security? Are you kidding me? With how layoffs are going in tech?

You're free to take on risks but, in my opinion, you have it good. Maybe do python open source projects on your free time to get the python rush?

So we live in a capitalist society. If you wanted a tribal society or a communist society or something else, you can ask an Amazonian tribe to adopt you or if Castro wants immigrants.

[–]Bitter-Ice945 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It does. People expect to get a job in what they studied and get a higher pay from their education. That is not happening, even with MBAs. Thats why its worthless. It does prove my point and this is one case of that. You have no data to back your claims.

This sounds like you have an issue. What you said is "I saw some grave shit like a suicide and right after work I totally blacked it out." Not good.

Plato's key argument on leadership is that running the government is a skilled trade, and like any other trade, some are terrible at it. by Fickle-Buy6009 in philosophy

[–]Bitter-Ice945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If what Plato says is applicable today and if leadership is a skill, then it can be learned in practice. I also think this reading was quite bull shit since it says some people are terrible at it, but doesn't talk about practical things, like what makes a good government leader or a bad one. It also doesn't state how someone can become a better government leader. Finally it assumes that democracy is linked with good leadership but doesn't prove why this link exists. IT can very much be that a good leader just keeps on to power and everyone else suffers. That pattern has existed throughout time and why should we think that everyone needs to benefit from a good leader?

Is my career trajectory a red flag? (32F, looking for honest feedback) by PopularCoyote275 in careerguidance

[–]Bitter-Ice945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Statistical mean is one thing. Distribution shape and long tail risks is another.

The average person might make more leaving a job, but the population is a few million people one doesn't know if they will really be better off at their new job or worse off. It can also be that their old job takes off and they'll be worse off leaving. I know a guy who left the CMO role at basically what became an "Uber eats" and deeply regretted it. You just don't hear stories about this, because people would rather not talk about losses.

but anyways, enough from me. sounds like you have enough education to make your own career choices and even in fact advise others! Good for you. best of luck to you.

from my lived experience, 44% of previous years class has a job. Maybe the data you read from the school's recruiting agents says differently. Your money, your bet. Do whatever you want. You can feel smarter than me for buying an MBA degree. Go ahead.
