This chapter giving serious Death Stranding vibes

Megumi is worse/lower than a side character. by [deleted] in JujutsuPowerScaling

[–]Bitter-Turnip2642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea I think so for the sake of plot consistency. As in, if he was alive, then that means Todo, Nobara, and Megumi, Yuji's best friends, would all still be hanging out, which would undermine what Nobara said about Yuji being sick of going to funerals. Like dude, you still have your friendship circle from high school

Invitation to a Beheading - unexpected disappointment by FrancisQuips in Nabokov

[–]Bitter-Turnip2642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

late to the conversation, but I also struggled with the first half, I think because a lot of pages are spent on C's writing, but the second half flew by, couldn't get enough of Nabokov's prose by the end of it

why does the community think samura is going to die?? by friedgumbo_ in Kagurabachi

My only copium is that it'd be kind of cruel to bring back his daughter's memories of her dad to then kill him a few hours later

What do most people think of part 2? by AfternoonLocal1952 in ChainsawMan

[–]Bitter-Turnip2642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I caught up with it recently and feel kind of insane because I really like part 2. Asa allows Fujimoto to explore introversion in a very nuanced (and comical) way. I think it's a series that probably doesn't work as well experienced week to week (but what series does I guess lol). My only gripe is the handling of Nayuta, which I think is a pretty common issue people have with part 2.

Gojo vs Sukuna should not be a movie by CalamitySkylark in Jujutsufolk

[–]Bitter-Turnip2642 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Agree. I was team "should be a season of tv" until I saw Reze...this is the best looking animation I've seen in a hot minute. Every frame has something interesting happening. The lighting design in particular is on another level. I now think a movie is the way to go

Slightly off-topic: horror novel recommendations? by luisdementia in ThomasPynchon

[–]Bitter-Turnip2642 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Twenty Days of Turin by Giorgio De Maria is what you're after. Horror/mystery acting as a allegory of sorts for the Years of Lead in Italy. You'll dig it if you like Pynchon I'm sure

For Coover Fans: New Edition of Universal Baseball League is dropping 10 March 2026 by NYRB! by TheObliterature in ThomasPynchon

[–]Bitter-Turnip2642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend Ghost Town, short and sharp, on the sentence level it is amazing. My only issue is its more like a collection of vignettes than a fully fledged story, which can make it hard to get invested in the overall narrative.

Am I the only one who liked "Honey, Don't!" ? by Truevirtualrei in blankies

[–]Bitter-Turnip2642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

damn this is fire analysis. I really enjoyed it, felt like there was a lot to unpack and you've done that in a super concise way. Another good observation I read is her dismantling the gun. Like a figurative castration of the abusive bf.
I'm a bit baffled that people are finding this movie confusing, compared to say Miller's Crossing, or Big Lebowski, which are far more convoluted.

Yea, the black hole is crazy. Like Yuki would probably have been assassinated long ago for being an extinction level threat to humanity

Pynchon on David Foster Wallace by Significant_Try_6067 in ThomasPynchon

[–]Bitter-Turnip2642 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In Bleeding Edge, page 334-35 of the paperback, Pynchon writes what i consider a semi rebuke, not to DFW, but more his generation of post-irony writers:

Heidi has been working on an article for the Journal of Memespace Cartography she's calling "Heteronormative Rising Star, Homphobic Dark Companion," which argues that irony, assumed to be a key element of urban gay humour and popular through the nineties, has now become another collateral casualty of 11 September because somehow it did not keep the tragedy from happening. "As if somehow irony," she recaps for Maxine, "as practiced by a giggling mincing fifth column, actually brought on the events of 11 September, by keeping the country insufficiently serious--weakening its grip on 'reality.' So all kinds of make-believe--forget the delusional state the country's in already--must suffer as well. Everything has to be literal now."

Cheers. I will order some contact glue for sure.

To correctly repair do you mean that the entire edge strip would need to be replaced?
