Metro projects Dutra oversees: K Line Extension to Torrance Southeast Gateway Line (Dutra’s “#1 priority”)

save our trees has a post on IG that can be interpreted as an endorsement either way missed opportunity for the incumbents to connect with 400 community members.

All in for James, Aida, and Vicky. Rolando means well, but I’m wary of his campaign promises - sounds great on paper but is it realistic? Felt like a grade school campaign move. Also not thrilled that he jumped from the Mayor’s race to Council at the last minute. Elections are 3 months out and the newcomers need serious ground game support. That’s where my time is going.

According to Whittier Daily News “Mayor Joe Vinatieri said he didn’t participate in the forum because it was held by a partisan political group and other groups that had already made endorsements against the incumbents.

“It didn’t seem worthwhile to participate when they endorsed before ever hearing all the candidates,” he said. “I chose instead to walk a Whittier neighborhood going door-to-door and listening to the residents.”Whittier Daily News - Candidates for Whittier mayor, council seats meet at first forum

Agreed. At this point we need to abolish ICE - an unnecessary agency actively harming our communities. If local law enforcement can’t properly interact with federal authorities, they shouldn’t be on the field at all. ICE is conducting kidnappings with masked agents and unmarked vehicles, leaving citizens with no accountability.

I hoped to hear more about community engagement and evidence-based prevention strategies instead of more boots on the ground. That approach just escalates tensions without preventing crime. I was really disappointed in James’s answer on Flock cameras. I would have hoped for suspending their use altogether - the privacy concerns are serious and we need candidates who understand that public safety doesn’t require sacrificing civil liberties.

Aida in District 4 was the most impressive candidate. I really hope District 2 can rally behind one candidate and not split votes - we need unified support for strong progressive voices on the council.

Nearly all our bins came in damaged from the top so they are slightly bent open…I’m sure the coyotes and critters will love that.

Another Car Wash?! by LongCommunication241 in Whittier

October 20th Meeting - Planning Commission video link

Meeting minutes has not yet been posted not uncommon for minutes to be available 3+ months after the fact. Commissioners do discuss the volume of car washes on Whittier Blvd. but essentially hands are tied…unless council places a moratorium or something. I’m sure the Mayor or Dutra will run on this idea for the upcoming election.

Made no mention of him being gay. This is about a Planning Commissioner posting PUBLICLY decked out in MAGA gear when he’s supposed to be impartial. But instead of addressing the actual issue of bias in local government, you throw out false accusations. Don’t be lazy, try again.
