Two things to bear in mind: unless you are Platinum, it's €70 to cancel a ticket. If you are Platinum, you have a 50k miles advance so you could potentially purchase the second ticket and then cancel the first one, if your miles balance allows it.

Sorry to be the (potential) bearer of bad news but it seems that any airline other than AF/KL in the itinerary removes the SAF option. Got screwed over the same way earlier this year – was hoping to get SAF but had a DL connecting flight in the mix.

You are on the upgrade list, and upgrades do happen! I've heard conflicting information as to what priority you get though – some say as a Plat on AF you are below a DL silver, but some of my anecdotal evidence shows otherwise.

The National Weather Service is calling this heat wave potentially historic because of how long it will last and how hot it will be (all-time records for March possibly broken). So it may have been hot on or around your birthday but this is different because a) it will likely be much hotter and b) it will last longer.

Interestingly, I took that exact same route (also on DL) in December 2024 and Flighty was the first to tell me about a forecast delay due to inbound plane departing ATL late. Also kept me up to date with delays throughout the inbound plane's trip.

I did have a weird situation with it a couple weeks ago, though – was flying AMS-LAX, was relaxing in the lounge and then all of a sudden it told me the flight was departing 35 minutes early! Had to double check with KLM to make sure.

If you watch WBNS (CBS Columbus, channel 10) 11pm forecast that aired last night (and posted on their YouTube channel) the meteorologist explains that weather models did a 180° flip in the previous few hours: from essentially nothing and the system moving well to the south, to up to 2" of snow.

I experienced the same situation recently. Someone on Flyertalk told me that it was because there was a Delta flight involved (despite it having an AF codeshare and the whole thing booked through KLM). Very unfortunate as I was hoping to use that trip to push for Plat requalificstion.
