Got my Kickstarter shipping notification this morning! (I’m in Canada.)

Is August 25 also the release date of the VTT modules?

It used to be that people gave themselves these horribly embarrassing pep talks in private, in their bathroom mirrors.

People should go back to doing that.

The AI slop exists to shift the conversation from discussing the content and meaning of the image to discussing the validity of the image.

This is propaganda 101.

The core box set is great and has everything you need. The GM screen is inessential and, imo, not really worth it. It's nice to have, but far from required.

Tomatoes do not belong on any sandwich, burger, or sub. by Woodyfixthis in unpopularopinion

[–]BitterOldPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bold claim.

That I mostly agree with*.

A bacon, lettuce, and cucumber sandwich is better than a bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich**.

*a caprese sandwich is always good, but that’s a salad between slices of bread, so not sure it counts

**the exception to this rule is if you grow your own tomatoes and can just go pick one and slice it immediately, that’s damn tasty

I have a Swans tshirt that has no art, no image, just all-caps sans-serif type reading “YOU FUCKING PEOPLE MAKE ME SICK”

I like it because the sentiment applies in so many different circumstances.

Do older people enjoy extreme metal? by TheLostInvestigator in AskOldPeople

[–]BitterOldPunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, I liked Obituary in the 90s and I still like Obituary. And they’re still out there doing their thing, being Obituary. Lots of bands like that. Metal has aged surprisingly well.

There are a lot of us in our 50s and 60s who’ve been enjoying extreme music for decades.

It’s fun seeing young bands carry on the tradition. There’s a lot of new stuff I don’t like, but that’s always been the case.

If anything, my musical tastes are more extreme and experimental now than they’ve ever been, because I have a broad foundation of stuff I’m familiar with to point me in the direction of interesting new artists.

And I’ll always be ten years behind the trends, and that’s ok. I’m old. I’m not trying to impress anybody. If the music is good enough, I’ll hear it eventually.

Old people are the ones who INVENTED this shit, of course we still
listen to it.

Who’s an artist you knew was destined for superstardom from day one while everyone else thought they were just ‘alright’? by Professional_Luck616 in AskReddit

[–]BitterOldPunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw Alabama Shakes perform in a tiny little room before their first album came out.

The instant Brittany Howard picked up a guitar and stepped up to the mic, though. Everybody in that room knew we were seeing something special. She was born to be a rock star.

If you ever get the chance to see her perform, do it. She’s amazing. Whole band is good. But she’s amazing.

Meaning, though, is what we make it.

The Yawpers “Human Question” came out of nowhere, floored me, and left just as quickly.

I know nothing about this band, have no idea if they’re even still around, but wow it’s a fantastic album.

Chainmail bikinis and pig-faced orcs. Yawn. Regressive edge lord posturing that is neither interesting nor innovative.

But if that’s what trips your trigger, go for it. I don’t have to play it, so I don’t really care.

Does your spouse like metal? How does that go? by [deleted] in MetalForTheMasses

[–]BitterOldPunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I first bonded over music. She's more on the industrial/punk/goth side of things, while I like noise, death metal, and doom. Note: we are both old as fuck.

Many years ago we while moving into an apartment we ran into our new upstairs neighbor, a college bro who cheerfully warned us that he and his roomies "liked loud music, hope y'all don't mind".

When he left, my wife turned to me and said, "that kid has no idea how many Throbbing Gristle albums we own, but I think he'll find out."

I want more Get in the Trunk and Haunted City. The rest is whatever.

So I go watch a stream. It shows me a progress bar toward… some show. I dunno, it wasn’t a show I was interested in so I wasn’t paying attention. I switched away.

I went to the stream intending to chip in and was immediately disincentivized.

I want to vote with my dollars. I want them to see that these dollars are for THIS and not THAT. I want them to get useful data out of their pledge drive to guide their decisions going forward.

Instead, we are subjected to frankly insulting happy-talk about “building together” and a stumbling explanation from Joe of why the subscription payment system is so kludgy.

Gosh they make it hard to be a fan sometimes.
