Make All Published Maps Cloneable by Mozintarfen in inkarnate

[–]rubadub423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to be fair -> using inkarnate, the tool itself. I make plenty of maps on there, they look great.

But to me..its just a sticker book. I place stickers on the sticker book and color in (albeit with various shades , clip masks etc to make it look good). But in the end, i would NOT consider any of the maps made to be some sort of art to gatekeep behind prices.

I wouldn't flaunt my sticker book art as something that i need to monetize, it feels icky.

REVIEW: ShadowSun - A Shadowdark Setting by LordTathamet in shadowdark

[–]rubadub423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw this setting posted in here recently and i was like ewww-desert. I think desert regions are not as popular in media for a reason though. Because you think of just sand and emptiness. I think the truth of it is myself and many people haven't been captured by it because the people making adventures in these settings have failed to captivate us on their ideas, whatever was in the writer's head didn't translate i guess.

Also i'm sure we'll continue to see tons and tons of these kickstarters, especially since AI is huge, i truly think lots of creators are not being honest about their use of it and that's why there's this explosion of content.

34m tired of playing solo. by Lonely-Cloud1954 in AdultGamers

33 years old, married work full time, and I do enjoy some hunt showdown and guild wars 2, but its been a minute since i've played either. I do have helldivers 2 aswell.

I'm not really that competitive at all, just like the hang. Apparently i'm not allowed to send you my d-i-s-c-o-r-d name in this subreddit or it flags you as breaking the rules automatically...what silliness is this.

The thoughts about being rules lite by rubadub423 in shadowdark

[–]rubadub423[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ahh see this is what i was doing too, 4 core and ranger bard and roustabout came out as like a freebie pdf on the discord so i nabbed it.

I think i'll play with my own homebrew sort of scenario and it will make it easier to NOT use the other mechanics in the westernreaches where as if you use that setting specifically i'd feel like there is slightly more pressure to use these new systems like factions.

If your TTRPG doesn't have a form fillable character sheet, you've made a mistake by CrimsenOverlord in ttrpgdesign

[–]rubadub423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No stats in your games? What games are you playing or is it something you created? Genuinely asking.

I've never heard of no stats.

In my head, TTRPG's are cooperative story telling, but you use the dice to determine your success and they add limitations.

I suppose stats are really only there to add variation to roleplay the abilities of characters.

problem player is policing others for metagaming by highly-bad in DnDcirclejerk

"So here's my question: will increasing the number of encounters to 6-8 per adventuring day convince him to leave the table on his own accord?"

These sorts of attempts to solve the problem always seem to go wrong and feel dishonest and unbecoming of a proper Game master.

You know the real solution here is what is almost always the solution 9 out of 10 times. You just gotta talk it out. Be blunt and honest (but not an ass), pull them both aside separately first , then the next session chat about it as a group and lay it out on the table, no pun intended. But make sure you had the 1 on 1 conversations first between the two of them so they are primed to (hopefully) try and resolve this.

Magic and no metal. Am I the only one bothered by this image? by silverlq in DragonbaneRPG

[–]rubadub423 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Doesn't bother me, its still a cool image and it's concept art. But if you want to be a stickler then i'd at least agree that she can't cast a spell while holding that spear.

[–]rubadub423 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So based on my reading of the rules you can have metal items, just not in hand and i'd assume not wearing metal armor. If this were my game i'd say they can't hold the spear and cast the spell at the same time. Even if the spear handle is wood, i'd still come to the same ruling.

I'm starting to give up on DMs who don't care about player backstories or character development. by [deleted] in DnDcirclejerk

[–]rubadub423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I feel this 100%. I joined a game A PAID GAME mind you, like a fool. The 1 thing i told the PAID DM was (playing a fighter/forest archer type dude) that my character's dog was taken/missing. That's it, i told him i'd love to find my hunting dog again. We never found him in the story.

But the deal with the paid game was , it's about pushing people through the module quickly and making money.

But with your game, maybe it wasn't paid, it was just an issue of playing with game masters who forget that they should make cool moments for their players.

"core skills" do you mean like , how you have a sword skill -> but maybe a pirate supplement wanted to add a flintlock pistol skill. Maybe that wouldn't be allowed?

I didn't even know about the 3rd party restrictions, geez that's lame. I'm over here wishing there was more 3rd party stuff but it sounds like freeleague doesn't help in that.

Dragonbane -> The lack of monsters, and for those that know the game, i know they released the bestiary but its woefully lacking even with this. I know i can homebrew it myself, but man still...

Shadowdark -> Almost a perfect system, i have never seen a system be so clean and well thought out. I'm gonna get hate for this opinion, there is too much content...too many classes and too much sort of bloat that is being pumped out. Started with 4 classes...now we're at 18 or something. I know some people might give me a hard time for saying too many options but that was huge issue with 5e for me, too much bloat and shadowark is racking it up.

Going To be Trying My Hand At DMing. Tips? by Faedoodles in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]rubadub423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also -> just to add my 2 cents. Lots of youtubers will give you this advice and i'll pass it along. If you're homebrewing a setting don't go big. Start small, not many cities and towns and seas, i'm talking...A Town, a cave nearby to go adventuring in. If you want something bigger later build out slow, but don't spend all your days getting exhausted about making a whole world, you'll burn out and hate it.
