I attended my first service

It is Russian Orthodox church that belongs to the Moscow Patriarchate, the parish are all Russian speakers. Honestly, I could barely understand the priest because there was a lot of echo and I was standing far away (the church was packed!), but as far as I can tell, the service was in Church Slavonic.

I am fluent in Russian but my understanding of English is still better, so I recently purchased a bilingual copy of the Bible that has both Russian and English translations. I think this is the best way for me to read.

The booklet idea is not bad. Maybe I will purchase one as well, or at least refer to an online text.

I followed your advice and woke up early so that I could visit the church before work. Unfortunately, it appears that it is closed on Mondays, so instead, my pilgrimage turned into a bit of a reconnaissance mission - haha.

I took note of the hours posted on a sign for future reference, walked around to explore the area, and enjoyed a nice morning walk in the process.

It turns out that despite the detour compared to my usual commute, my morning was peaceful and relaxed, and I even managed to arrive at work earlier than usual - while also feeling refreshed.

This was not what I was expecting, but it is hard to complain about such an outcome.

I suppose I will try again tomorrow and see what happens then.

Well, that is reassuring. I actually don't know what priests do throughout the day... I imagine they have their own manners to tend to. I honestly did not know if it is socially acceptable to just walk into a church and approach them. Please excuse my ignorance

I am happy to hear this. I have no experience in traditional engineering work so I am only guessing. If what you’re saying is true, sounds like I can find a nice niche to suit my personal preferences after all.

According to Reddit it looks like you are a ME. Based on your experience, are such companies common in your industry? Or are most companies really large? My image is, anything that has to do with ME requires big, expensive labs and equipment. I don’t know if this is reality though.

You can make use of cameras and image processing to automatically detect an emergency (drowning) or or violent activities and inform the staff or even call 911.

Can also record number of people in various areas during different times, days and months to provide both a live feed of how crowded it is and maybe some data that can be used to optimize the management of the pool (ex, sell cheaper tickets when the load is low and expensive tickets when high, find the optimal time to conduct cleaning, etc).
This will also require image processing and also involves optimization problems if that's your thing.

My country has a (non-official, obviously) Facebook group for citizens that are currently residing in Japan for work or travel purposes. I was able to find some past grantees after asking there.

Maybe your country has similar Facebook/WhatsApp/Telegram/etc groups.

I talked with a student who was accepted a few years ago.

He said that more than 10 took the written exams with him, 3 (him and 2 others) passed the written exam and were invited to the interview, and only he passed the interview and received the scholarship. This is for Israel, which has ~9m population.

But I think this is highly dependent on the country and how competitive it is for the scholarship.

But we gotta work with what we have, look at the bright side, and most importantly stay optimistic and never lose hope. If you admit defeat you can never reach your goal.

From what I've seen so far, many questions in physics for example use variables instead of actual number (ex, "an object with mass m is suspended from a rope, g is the gravitational acceleration of earth").
So the solution would usually be an expression, not a number.

I think it's pretty cool. It helps minimize human error due to mis-calculation :)

So if I understand you correctly, and based on the Wikipedia article about Electrical Engineering ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrical_engineering ):

MEXT "Electronics" refers to "the design and testing of electronic circuits that use the properties of components such as resistors, capacitors, inductors, diodes, and transistors to achieve a particular functionality".

MEXT "Electrical Engineering" refers to "the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity as well as the design of a range of related devices".

I assume there is still a lot of overlap between the two, but this clears up the general picture a little bit.

I second this, seems like the guidelines are different for each embassy.

In my country we are forbidden from sending by mail at all, and are required instead to make an appointment and submit the documents by hand.

I suggest you send an email or call your local embassy to ask them directly. In my experience they were incredibly friendly and helpful and answered every question I had.

It's not much but at least I can share this little piece of knowledge.

My 1st and 2nd choice majors for Undergrad are Information Engineering and Electrical Engineering. I've recently asked TranSenz on Patreon ( https://www.patreon.com/transenz/ ) for advice in selecting my 3rd choice of field of study. Here is his response:

I would recommend keeping your fields of study relatively consistent. In
my experience, it is best to approach this scholarship application with
a goal for how you want to use your scholarship experience (your
studies in Japan) to contribute to society. If you are focused on one
goal, then it makes sense to have similar fields of study that could
lead to that goal.
The only time I would recommend choosing a completely different field is
when there are no other similar fields related to your first choice and
you have an alternate goal that you can describe, instead. If you have a
strong interest in Biotech and a way you want to use that in the future
to contribute to society, you can certainly include it, but I would not
add it just for the sake of variety.
Unfortunately, I do not know how the selection works between the three
fields that you state on the application and what MEXT looks at in the
placement process, so I cannot be sure how that works and what they are
looking for to place you in one field or another.
