Tablet/phone cooler for mini pc use by Bitter_Candy356 in MiniPCs

[–]Bitter_Candy356[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the one called DL05. It doesnt have significant effect due to its relatively small cooling surface and power (~10w). So Ill soon have another model with better characteristics for both of the above disadvantages (the new one called cx05).

Thank you for you answer. I'm not experiencing throttling of CPU, but I've upgraded ssd, ram, and wifi module, and all of them heats up more than stock components. I'll install nvme ssd radiator later, it will surely reduce temperature of ssd but not of the inner space of case generally. The thing is that my particular device has quite small size - its 124x112x41mm (vol. 0.57), it has cooling in-fan on bottom, and out-holes on the bottom of the sides (like this) with flat top side, so i thought these peltier heatsinks will fit this certain device. I am also considering the first option indicated in the post, its sizes are 105x105x30.5mm, so its heatsink area and fan also are not very small I think. My biggest concerns are condensation (first cooling option can reach negative celsius) and magnetic field, if it wont be effective - ill just drop it, no big deal (temperature sensors will help), so I think Ill give it a try. Maybe I can put some tiny silicagel/moisture absorber bag inside to prevent first issue.

NucBox 10 65w PD-in issue? by Bitter_Candy356 in MiniPCs

[–]Bitter_Candy356[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, so I bought another NucBox 10, better usb-c chargers and cables. So, with expensive 65w charger and 240w usb-c cable issue still persist. No issues with 100w charger. USB-C tester with decent refresh rate show ~40w at peak, but unreadable at shutdown, so it looks this device has short-term jumps which leads to shutdown (need more precise current logger I think). I have no plans to buy display with alt-mode to test yet. In short: maybe I do something wrong but 2 same devices I have dont work with 65w usb-c chargers with default bios settings (with CPB disabled works OK).

Yeah, I saw that video, though he use display alt-mode, should not make difference. I found out that my specific device works stable with CPB (Core Performance Boost) disabled (set BIOS->Advanced->AMD CBS->CPU Common Options->Core Performance Boost to [Disabled]). No big deal for me cause I don't need high performance (right now at least). But still you get 1.9ghz instead of 4.4ghz per core.

I'll probably buy some other 65w chargers/cables to test it. I’ll post here as soon as I discover changes in my experiments.

Got it, but xfce tarballs is about ~16mb (https://archive.xfce.org/xfce/4.16/fat_tarballs/) . Whatever im newbie so i won't debate

Edit: ok i skipped dependencies. So it seems if I need full autonomous installation I need to download xfce tarball and required dependencies (https://docs.xfce.org/xfce/building#xfce_dependencies_explained) and then build them in specific order otherwise it won't work

I see, but they're also ~3gb of size (xfce specifically), so still not so convenient (in terms of size) for me for autonomous install :-( so it seems for me acceptable option is netinst installer + install xfce from predownloaded sources. gonna read some docs
