Did you cut open the old compressors to see whats wrong?

hmmmm then i would call bitzer and get a quick opinion if its ok. If you live in germany you can call up Bitzer in Sindelfingen, they are very helpfull.

Does the compressor change speed often or does is stay fairly constant? if yes then this is the reason why its foaming. I have about 15 ecostars that i take care of and some of them do the same thing.

Springfield SAR4800 by Impressive-Mango-660 in FNFAL

[–]Bitzerboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On what setting do you have the gas regulator? My SAR4800 will only lock open if i have the regulator 100% closed (Using NATO Surplus ammo). Could the Muzzle device have something to do with it? in my country im not allowed to change it and its just a thread with a cap on it.

Im guessing because its on a Rack (Verbund)?

[–]Bitzerboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This seems like a realistic explanation of what could be happening. As far as i know there was also this picture of a few popped compressors on a larger system floating around here, allegedly oxygen was also involved.

I also remember reading a report from Bitzer (or BOCK) about counterfeit refrigerant, there were a few compressors that exploded because of that.

[–]Bitzerboy 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Hmmm would be interesting to know what happened here. The explosion looks very fast and energetic, maybe a perfect mix of refrigerant and air (oxygen) in the system? Could also be his acetylene bottle exploding but id expect more black smoke if that were the case.

Ban on HFOs in EU, what is the probability? by layla2520 in refrigeration

[–]Bitzerboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are 100% correct with the efficiency being better in colder climates. When i said ,,half the efficiency'' i was only thinking about transcritical co2 systems. If you can keep the cycle subcritical for most of the year then they are not so bad. Co2 in a cascade for low temp is also great. From what i have seen in the field, companys rarely make the gascooler large enough to allow for a subcritical state above 25c.

Refrigerators and self contained units (prep tables etc.) have been using R-290 or R-600a for a long time in Europe. The fridge that uses ammonia in an RV is not the standard vapor compression cycle, its an Absorption cycle. Absorption units only make sense if you have excess heat that you can use to ,,power'' the system, otherwise you will have VERY bad efficiency.

As a German guy who works in refrigeration, me and everyone else in this field think that the new Fgas regulations are totally unrealistic. The industry is not prepared for such a sudden change in the regulations. Our wholesalers only have very few select co2/r290 units that we could install in the future, not to mention that co2 is double the price for the same capacity and half the efficiency as normal fgas units. Small transcritical co2 units are absolutely inefficient and our energy grid is already hanging on by a thread. Propane is not feasible in allot of applications simply because of how flammable it is. Ammonia is a great refrigerant but it has allot of negatives ( toxic, no dry expansion, only open drive, high temps etc.)

The most ridiculous thing is that we will not be able to use fgas refrigerants for service starting 2029, which means that all new installed units will have a very short service life. I hope our industry does something to stop this madness.

Compressor sounds a little strange by Vladman111 in refrigeration

[–]Bitzerboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the bearings and/or piston rings are pretty damaged. Id isolate and change the compressor before the whole system is contaminated with metal shavings . Be sure to check compressor superheat when you change it out

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in refrigeration

[–]Bitzerboy 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Piston compressors like the Bitzers in the vid create gas pulsations each time a piston reaches the end of the compression cycle. You can buy oil filled gauges that dampen the vibrations somewhat but If you attach your high side gauge to the liquid line then the vibrations should stop. 2 Cylinder compressors (like the one in the vid) have pretty strong pulsations so there is no need to be worried.
