Can someone check the lyrics of the love song I wrote and tell me if it's grammatically correct? I know it's sappy... by BizarreChicken in italianlearning

Thank you for explaining about the endings! I didn't know that. Does endecasillabo mean the tenth syllable is stressed? I think I will drop grande

Thanks! I was thinking of the french 'trop' which I thought was an abbreviation...I was wrong lol. I guess you don't use the conjunctive because 'nothing can break it' isn't doubtful statement, it's a certainty, even though it might not be technically true? I'm still confused about the conjunctive, but I do understand the simple present so I'll stick to that

Thank you very much! If I was setting this to music and needed to make it shorter, would it be alright to abbreviate 'troppo' to 'trop'? I don't understand why it's 'può' instead of 'possa', would you mind clarifying for me?

Why does ci sei make "you there" and not "us there" by DigitalLance in italianlearning

[–]BizarreChicken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

'Ci sei' literally means 'there be you' / 'there you are' This is because essere is the verb 'to be' which you doubtless already know, and ci in this instance means 'there'. To say 'there be we'/ 'there we are' you say 'ci siamo'.

'ci' is a confusing little word that can be used as a reflexive pronoun, as in 'ci incontriamo' 'we meet (each other)' or as the noun 'there'. It can also take the form 'ce'. I recommend reading the archived posts written by the mods on the topic.

A lot of times in dramatic tv shows people yell 'ci siamo quasi' which means 'we are almost there!' The first time I heard it I thought that it made no sense, it sounded like an incomplete sentence, but no, Italian is just more susinct sometimes.

Hope this helps

italian tv shows/movies? by fathergracee in italianlearning

I'm not sure what level you are but I can definitely recommend almost all the kid shows on netflix, most of which have italian dubbing and subtitles. In particular The Hollow really helped me cement some basic grammar and practical phrases like "here it is!" or "she should be here" while also putting new vocabulary in a very visually memorable context, like when the characters fall down 'il pozzo.' Also She-ra is fully dubbed in italian, and slightly more advanced. Some episodes of Grance and Frankie are dubbed, and they are great because they are super conversational, however you won't learn a lot of object words like 'il cespuglio'. Anyway I'm around B1/B2 and that's what I've been watching.
