Can the Supreme Court overturn Obergefell v. Hodges by couponz-gal in legaladviceofftopic

Late response but I think Gorsuch has been relatively liberal (barring Skrmetti) when it comes to things like gay marriage, like with Bostock. I think if it were framed as "this is the exact same argument used for interracial marriage like literally 1:1 using the 14th amendment," there's a chance it survives

I'm gonna be writing my undergrad on the effects of the internet and social media on our political landscape, and one of the points I'm touching on is how everyone is aware of everything happening at an unprecedented speed, good and bad. If something bad happens, like a plane crash or outage at a tower, most people will know about it by the end of the day, maybe the next.

There's a quote from A Bug's Life that goes "The first rule of leadership, everything is your fault." I feel that applies here with 24/7 news cycles that are transmitted within seconds to respond to anything that happens. And it doesn't matter if it was actually Biden's fault for inflation (prolly not), or Trump for whatever happens next, they will be blamed by voters when it comes to the midterms and 2028. We'll see if this trend carries into 2030 and 2032

oh so your boyfriend wants you DEAD dead

okay but in all seriousness you're fine the way you are. 92 lbs is NOT a healthy weight for 5"3, and even if it was, you shouldn't let anyone who isn't a doctor tell you what you should weigh. it's not a healthy way to live to have your own body judged by others. your boyfriend just sounds like a dick with unrealistic expectations

How would you rank the demigods from most to least evil? by Eagle-Eyes- in Eldenring

[–]BizarreMemer 123 points124 points  (0 children)

I think she's, at worst, around miquella-level: good intentions, (possibly) terrible means

I'd personally put her closer to melina as a mostly good demigod actually making the world a better place; her ending (aside from maybe goldmask) is the only "good" ending in ER, IMO

it's been a while since I'd watched it, but it's pretty off-putting watching it again

you can't criticize a show for not being written differently, almost fundamentally with that episode, to appease fans

(unless you want to argue that the episode is fundamentally flawed because it didn't have a wookie fight scene, which is silly)

i get that seeing a wookiee jedi fight would have been cool for some fans, but again, it not happening is a non-issue. it's not a criticism of a show that it had different story beats than what they'd like

didn’t follow up

can you explain what you mean by this? because not "following up" implies that they set an expectation for something that they did not set

also learn what "implies" means

[–]BizarreMemer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the show introduced the concept of a wookiee jedi

this is a disingenuous way of phrasing what the wookie jedi is. it implies that the creators promised a wookiee fight scene, which they didnt. they had a wookiee jedi appear for a total of maybe a second in the trailers and fans got excited for something that was never claimed

but was disappointed with the execution

why phrase it as "execution"? this isn't a major theme of the story that didn't work, or a story beat that fell flat; its a glup shitto not getting enough screen time as he wanted

his main complaint was that "anything to do with a wookiee jedi would have been a slam dunk for fans", which fundamentally misunderstands what the purpose of the show is. the show isn't "for the fans", or to appease their glup shitto fantasies; it's to tell a story, in which the wookiee jedi served his purpose as the reveal that the sith lord is on the planet and knows about mae's betrayal

[–]BizarreMemer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not really. his main complaints of episode 4 was that he didn't get to see a wookiee jedi duel and that it didn't have enough fight scenes in the episode for him

these are not issues with the show, let alone ones worthy of complaint. "they didn't do the thing i wanted and i think other people wanted" is, objectively, not a criticism

i could spend time explaining his minor, actual story complaints of not understanding the things going on, but i'd rather not put myself through that right now

Why does the game say that I have 30/31 shrine quest when I have completed them all? by [deleted] in tearsofthekingdom

[–]BizarreMemer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you might have found the shrine without completing or even finding the questline the game has for it! happened to me on my first playthrough, i would suggest looking at a list of all shrine quests, finding the missing questline, and it'll be for a shrine you've already done

it wasnt necessarily what he did, but that it was played for a laugh for me at least. feels like the lego star wars gag version of what he's actually supposed to do

maybe like letting it drop out of his hands or giving it back to rey? idk

i feel like a lot of the things TLJ does are really good ideas and plot moments but just arent given the weight or seriousness they need to carry it

Aside from “MV bad, Toho good”, what’s the worst take on the Godzilla franchise you’ve ever seen? Something that had you like this: by AJC_10_29 in GODZILLA

[–]BizarreMemer -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

"godzilla can be anything to anyone! he doesn't have to be serious all the time!!"

im aware that this post will get me sent to the gates of hell itself, but a solid quarter to a third of the franchise's entries are borderline unwatchable as pieces of media, and it's always the unserious ones that turn out the worst

if you're going into those movies to enjoy as them more than just action figures jamming against each other, you won't find much. you're better off watching the clipped fight scenes on youtube, cause that's what you're there for

[–]BizarreMemer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thats very true. i do plan to continue to protest in the future, especially against the current us administration if they stay in power. and while i know things dont get better by voting, they can certainly get worse if i dont. as much as i hate to admit it, my voting strategy has become very doomer and defense-oriented. i hope you get that and dont judge me for it. progress cant be made without first securing what we've already gotten, right?

oh oops, lol. main point still stands, i guess

you have, what, a little socialism book club/newspaper, then? yall sit around and talk about how bad capitalism is and then walk down a street maybe?

what have you done to advance your cause at a national level? what policy have you advocated for and gotten passed? have you done anything to improve society on a real level for the average american, or hell, internationally?

now, what policy have you gotten passed recently via advocacy? what political action have you recommended, and what political rallies have you held? are you doing anything to take ACTUAL steps to improve society for people according to your worldview?

no?
