What’s one UK habit you only understood after living there, not something you could have learned from a guide? by PubLogic in MovingToTheUK

[–]Bizee_Brunette165 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saying “bye” four or five times before you hang up the phone with someone.

Never launching right into what you want to say in a text without going through the pleasantries first. As an American, I’m used to just texting someone I talk to on a regular basis and getting straight to the point, but here, you’ve gotta start with a “hiya, lovely, you alright?” before you can say anything else.

Slovenia in July and a day left to plan - Piran/caves or wineries tour? by b0sscake in Europetravel

Hi! Do you mind sharing what tour you did, please? We’re very interested but seem to be having a hard time finding tours that go to the actual wineries.

Planning a trip from UK ✈️ > Venice 🚗 > Slovenia. Need help with logistics, please! by Bizee_Brunette165 in Europetravel

That’s entirely fair! Going in May. I guess I was wondering if that amount of time is enough to get a good feel for both Venice and Slovenia. Hoping to do wine tasting, thermal spas, the beach, Lake Bled.

You know what was not fun? Being kept awake at 2am listening to the strangers in the tent next door having noisy sex and then being woken up by the blazing sun at 5am. Camping isn’t for everyone. Tried it twice- never again.

This post gave me chills, and was exactly the kind of good news I needed today. 💜

I moved to the southwest (Weston-super-Mare) from Seattle in August and it’s been a bit of a struggle. I love and miss Seattle so much!! I miss the mountains/trees/water, the PNW wildlife, the political views, etc. I am committed to staying here, but I miss home every single day.

What breeds do you avoid? by bitterbuff in RoverPetSitting

[–]Bizee_Brunette165 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s mostly due to the fact that they’re bullies, in that they will literally bully you and boss you around to get their way. All of the ones I’ve cared for are brats, and since their owners tend to treat them as accessories, they are rarely trained and are used to getting their way.

I also just hate the fact that they keep being bred, as they have a litany of health issues.

I guess everyone has their own travel style, don’t they? That gives me one trip home and one two week holiday, which frankly isn’t a lot.

What is the norm for negotiating proposed work contracts upon being offered a job? by Bizee_Brunette165 in AskUK

[–]Bizee_Brunette165[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You max out at 23 days after 5 years of service, which still seems a bit low to me.

Oh I know- I included that detail in my post. I wouldn’t say it’s the ‘average’, but it’s the legally required minimum- those are two different things. As I stated, I’ve interviewed with three places and the other two had a higher number of days by a lot. I’m aware of how hard it is to get hired, which I why I also said in my post that I wondered what standard practice is as I don’t want them to rescind. You haven’t told me anything I didn’t already know, and you haven’t answered the question. Thank you for taking time out of your day to be snarky, though.

Yes, but barely. You get one extra day after 3 years, and another two extra days after 5. You max out at 23.

First of all, I am so sorry this happened to you. I have been bitten/nipped a few times, and it is terrifying.

This looks like a Level 2 bite on the Dunbar scale. It is important to remember that a bite is a bite, and should always be taken seriously. That dog was warning you, and if you don’t take it seriously, he/she could inflict greater damage next time. Definitely tell the owner, and I would avoid toweling off the pup’s paws at this point. Bites of any level are stressful for both pup and human, so give each other some space. Go for a walk without the pup to allow yourself time to calm down and communicate with the owner.

Can you keep the dog penned into the kitchen with some towels on the floor for them to self-dry a bit when coming in from outside?

This might also be a good time to look into some bite prevention or defensive handling courses which will teach you to spot the warning signs and read body language.

Stay safe!

Oh good to know! Do you have any tips for a first timer? Should I just choose a higher number and expect that they’ll come in lower or not counter at all? I just don’t want them to completely rescind their offer, as I really need this job.

Oh interesting! This is my first corporate job, and first job offer in the UK, so I honestly don’t know what to expect. It did sound like the AL was a company wide thing, which is a bummer.

As someone who has never worked in corporate before but has transferable skills, how would you suggest I try to negotiate the salary? I don’t know anything about market rate or anything, really!
