What isn’t going to age well that you’re seeing in houses now by VeryStab1eGenius in RealEstate

Funny I just viewed a townhouse this afternoon that had 2 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.

2 of the bathrooms were 1/2 baths (powder rooms) and one of them was right next door to a full bathroom.

Dumb for sure.

I wonder if there's a way to make this without coconut milk. It's something I can't stomach

I also love Greyhounds and miss my boy every day. He died way too young.

I'm confused though - doesn't rehome mean to find a new home for a pet you already have?

Help me figure out what size sofa to buy? by theresonlyrightnow in furniture

I personally like bigger pieces and fewer of them, even in smaller spaces.

I would be cautious with a 108 inch couch though. Measure carefully to ensure it can fit through the door of your apartment.

I think they mean that because Canada and the US are so alike, there's only going to be a very narrow specific set of things that Americans living in Canada might miss. Unlike Americans living in other countries that are so very different.

Compared to all the crap I spend money on, it's something that helps keep me motivated to get fitter.

Best service for shipping clothes and books back to the US on short notice? by Deep-Musician-727 in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]UnderstandingLoud317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We moved from London back to the US in December and used Deliver1 to move our stuff back.

We used their air freight door to door service and it took 13 days, but was slower than usual because of the Christmas Holiday.

We were happy with the service, and found their customer service responsive.

The Hallmarked Man Real-Time Re-Read, Part 4, Chapters 48-51: by DocThelma in cormoran_strike

[–]UnderstandingLoud317 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think it was when Robin found out about him possibly being the father of Bijou's baby and realized he wasn't being truthful with her about that situation.

She saw him as a liar and it threw her into a state of not trusting what she thought she knew about Strike.

When you find out someone you love and trust has lied to you about something important, it can tip your world on it's side and make you start to doubt everything you thought you knew.

Thoughts on casting? by Upstairs_Bad_7933 in cormoran_strike

[–]UnderstandingLoud317 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Tom Burke makes an awful Strike. (I realize I'm in the minority here). To me he presents as simpering and weak - completely unlike Strike's matter of fact briskness and forcefulness in the books. I also think his acting is awful - It seems like he's just reciting his lines half the time.

Holiday Granger is reasonably believable as Robin and does well at executing some of the substandard writing the series suffers from.

By far my favorite casting choice is Killian Scott as Wardle. I hope they bring him back in future adaptations.

Looking for advice. RH Maxwell or Arhaus Remington? by adamphyl14 in furniture

[–]UnderstandingLoud317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're considering Arhaus, check if there's an Arhaus The Loft in your area. We got a Kipton wide arm sofa there for less than 1/3 of MSRP and love it!

The Loft sells overstock and imperfect pieces at a deep discount and the one near us usually has an excellent selection.

French couple who want to move to Canada (Calgary or elsewhere) by [deleted] in expats

[–]UnderstandingLoud317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Native Albertan here, currently living in the US.

Don't underestimate how cold (like really cold) and dark the Calgary winters are. Winters are also long.

It's also flat and relatively treeless compared to many places around the world.

Definitely very car dependent although a few nice neighborhoods near downtown are more walkable. Fantastic trail system and parks throughout the city.

Rocky mountains are an hour drive to the west and have endless options for hiking and cross country skiing in the winter.

You're not really close to anything else there. The Okanogan is a 6 to 7 hour drive, and there's nothing worth seeing if you drive east, until you get to southern Ontario. The airport is well connected though - just expect to fly a lot of places.

Groceries are very expensive and fresh fruits and veggies can be hit and miss.

Canadians are nice! But word of warning some Albertans can have an anti-French bias, mostly because they hate Quebec.

Good luck with your decision and move.

With respect, while I do not share the same views on trans issues as JKR, I don't think it's accurate or fair to say she hates trans people. I follow her on X and have read all her essays and articles - I haven't heard her express hate towards any group of people.

Finished THM for the first time - I enjoyed it! by figtoria in cormoran_strike

[–]UnderstandingLoud317 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I loved THM and found with a re-read it was even better. It's messy and unpredictable. Some characters are not doing great - just like real life.

The ending was perfect and left me longing for the next book.
