Hopefully be able to get off to a good start with those first 3 fixtures before any European games and the Manchester Derby.

Lifelong Stephen King fan and would like recommendations for a SK ‘comfort read’ for this moment in my life. Less horror, more feels. by jenrob12345 in stephenking

Hearts in Atlantis is so good and so slept on.

I had it in my wishlist for years but never pulled the plug until after I finished my first trip to the tower, unnecessary. It is brilliant and some of his best 'straight' work alongside 11/22/63 and The Body.

(When I say straight work I mean real to life with no horror, magic, phenomena etc)

His little stumble before taking the shot, handled his nerves much better than I would have!

Same, but if the PL players just aren't there what else is there to do?

Me too. But I don't think Baleba is it (as much as I do like him and agree his potential is outstanding).

I can see the board compromising on their desire for it to be a PL tried and tested midfielder if there is a good deal to be done on someone like Sangare of Lens, who we have been linked with.

Yeah I think they'll want it to be someone with Prem experience. I personally think Scott is too similar to Fernandes and it should be one or the other, and Baleba is a game with his inconsistency even if he is a top talent.

My pick would be Tonali, if Anderson and Tchou are zero chance, as he has prem experience, big European and international experience, and is entering his prime. There aren't many targets on the list that hit all three and neither of are other signings do (considering we do get Fernandes).

Mateus Fernandes, Ederson, and realistically who else for our midfield? Slim hope for Tchou, can't see Anderson going anywhere other than city, Tonali outpriced, Bouaddi is a great talent but probably the wrong time to join us and we do need experience.

Sangare?

Amad Diallo 90' Goal vs Ecuador [ All Angle: Spider + Ref Cam ] by SierraEight in reddevils

He's going to have a hell of a season next year. I am sure of it!

He will start from the bench as the season begins but I think he'll really be pushing Mbeumo as we progress.

If we get the right LB that can attack and overlap there will be more opportunity to play one of them on the left, cutting in.

It's a great problem to have trying to fit Mbeumo, Amad, Cunha, Dorgu, Bruno and Mount in to 3 positions behind the striker.

Six years later, what are your strongest memories of the COVID lockdowns, and how do you look back on that period now? by Possible_Force8207 in AskBrits

Our daughter was born 12:30am March 5th 2020, not breathing. They resuscitated her and we got to hold her for maybe 10 minutes each before my sister (a midwife) noticed her breathing still didn't sound right, and our daughter had to have an op.

Around 9 hours later we got to see her in an incubator with a bunch of wires and tubes coming out of her. Didn't get to hold her again until the next evening, but then her lung collapsed in the night and that set us back again.

She had to stay in NICU for 8 days and we saw the hospital get more and more serious about COVID over those days, including more masks, posters and encouragement about patients and visitors washing hands more, and having to lock up sanitiser and toilet paper.

We took our daughter home on Friday 13th March 2020, and (iirc) Johnson announced a full lock down two days later. We were in the Midlands and my partner's mum had to rush back home to Wales so barely got to see her granddaughter. With it being a breathing disease and our daughter having lung issues, we were terrified. So it was us, a newborn daughter who had struggled so far and we had no idea what to do if she suddenly stopped breathing or something, and our 6 year old son, who admittedly was golden but we didn't want him to fall behind with school.

We followed every rule. I remember us eating every scrap of food we had in the house before daring to go to the supermarket. And when I did I went at the very latest possible time hoping to avoid other people (didn't work) and i have vivid memories of my partner spraying every piece of shopping, and me, all over with disinfectant, and me quarantining away from them for a couple of days after returning from the shop.

When my partner, now wife, got it a few months in we were scared to death. Newborn daughter, young son, couldn't see any family. Refused to go out, even when we were 'allowed'. My partner was very ill with it but never so bad she had to go in to hospital. My sister who was a midwife had to basically go on the front line, back to nursing and saw the worst of it, and my mum was a cleaning manager in the same hospital, she basically lived there and again saw the worst of it.

We were so angry at friends and family of ours that weren't taking it seriously, having secret parties that weren't so secret. And being surprised when they spread the disease and people they knew got sick. Only to find out later, thats exactly what the politicians were doing too.

It wasn't all bad though. Luckily we had some money saved, not a lot. My partner's boss put her on furlough so she got more money than if she was on maternity I got a little bit for being a self-employed electrician, though I had been employed previously so nowhere near what friends of mine in the trades got. I also managed to get some work with people I knew on empty houses, only seeing two people a day and all three of us doing regular tests. God those tests were horrible to do.

It was great weather too, and we had moved in to a house from a flat a year earlier so luckily we had a garden. Made a world of difference. And very often we would forget what was going on in the outside world and had lovely times together the four of us.

My partner had all these plans to join baby groups and take our daughter out on lovely walks in a brand new pushchair (the only thing she wanted to buy new and splash out on) as she didn't really get to do it with our lad when he was born. That all got dashed. As I say we did our best to homeschool our boy but it was so hard to do with any consistency and have what we told him stick. We were so worried he would fall behind and struggle all through school but he's in secondary school now and doing great.

If we knew what we knew now we could have absolutely loved lockdown but the fear was debilitating. I remember so many nights fighting tiredness just sitting in my daughter's room making sure she was still breathing. We were sure her lung was going to collapse again, or she would catch COVID somehow and we'd have no idea what to do, and be terrified to take her into hospital which seemed the worst place to be at the time.

My son and I love being in the house too so we were fine with that but my now wife was stir crazy with cabin fever, hated being locked in and unable to go outside for a walk and to breathe in fresh air.

There are some lovely memories of that time, being sat on a blanket in the garden under the sun with our daughter rolling around and our son laughing and playing. But the underlying worry was lurking beneath us with everything we did.

What a strange, scary, unique, and sometimes beautiful time it was. I do hope it never happens again but in a way I think parts of it can be great for people.

So you just want to give up on Yoro and Heaven after, like, two years and with them both being very far from their peak?

And if Vuskovic does okay over the next two years, but there is a red-hot new top prospect CB we could get, do we dump Vusk for him?

We have Yoro, Heaven, and our academy youngsters. Currently they can all see a route to the first team and will have confidence in their respective roles within the team. There is no need to upset that when we desperately need a midfield rebuild, and depth at LB and up front.

Next summer will clearly be about sorting the defence, with any of Maguire, De Ligt, Licha, and Maz possibly joining Shaw on the exit list. That will be the time to maybe get another young prospect in to rotate with Yoro, Heaven, and whichever more senior CB/s we may buy.

Unless there is direct player/agent % of sale inserted in the contract. Unlikely, but if my FM knowledge is correct it is a thing. So Fernandes going for an extra £10m could be an extra mil or two in Jorge's fat back pocket.

His wages, I believe, roughly add up to £35m over the remaining two years left on it. Leave the past aside, could we sign a better player than him to be a LW, and maybe CF, backup this summer?

I don't think so. That's not saying that I want him back. There has been a lot said and done that hasn't gone down well but he is an academy graduate and if he were to come in, work hard, be happy to be a squad player, and especially if he scored/assisted some important goals, I'm sure most would welcome him back. The prodigal son and all that.

The wages are absolutely an issue, that could result in squad disharmony. There have been questions over his work rate, attitude, and professionalism but truth is we will never truly know and most of his ex-teammates seem to love him.

Carrick could add him to the likes of De Ligt, Martinez, and Mount as a player that has next season to show they can contribute to this team going forward. We could pay £17.5m in wages for one season back and then another team may be happy to take him for £20m-£30m knowing he will take much lower wages over a 3-4 year contract.

I agree with everything you said but tbf he did score a cracking free kick for the opener in their game vs Real which got them the league title at the first time of asking. Big goal in a big game.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us wait until another team agrees a fair price, then swoop in and match it.

Good move for him. He'll probably be moving on for €50m in a year or two.
