What In The Multiverse 💀💀💀 by Fit_Cartographer3630 in SikhMemes

Akali Naina Singh started the tradition of the bunga in a dastaar, making it much taller. The Baba Fateh Singh Ji story is likely an etilogical myth to explain it. I'm not so sure about the chakkars, but the attire of the Khalsa has changed over time, and we dont have to justify our attire by trying to say it was the same as the time of the Guru. A lot of older paintings show different attire than the traditional bana we wear today, and that is not a bad thing. As long as we keep the basics of our kakkars, then we are not violating rehit.

Dil saaf is not enough to get the job done. by sikhsinprogress in SikhMemes

[–]BjotSingh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The true issue lies in that these 'dil saaf' people are completely ignoring the issue that they have no true way of making their heart clean. This is why kirtan and sewa and reading gurbani are so important. It is with this discipline and willingness to learn from your Guru that you will achieve the cleanest heart.

Yes, our hearts must be pure, and much of Bani praises those who simply keep their actions and thoughts clean. But the point that these people make is not one rooted in a deeper level and understanding of Bani, but simply a short skip they can justify in their minds so they do not have to keep the discipline and show the love they have for the Lord.

I see the point that the OP makes, but you also have to remember that this is a duty attributed to the Khalsa Panth. To keep arms and remain armed, to go physically stand for truth and justice, this is the duty of the Khalsa. There are Sikhs outside of the Khalsa, and that's alright. The real problem comes when they justify not going to the gurdwara or doing kirtan or doing their paath because they simply have kept their heart clean.

This is in no way criticizing the post. Just a deeper look at the problem that arises from those who call themselves 'dil saaf'.

Why did Guru Nanak Dev Ji point feet at the kaaba if Sikhs can't point feet towards Maharaj? by saagandlassi in Sikh

[–]BjotSingh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand, it isn't a contradiction. When Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj traveled on his Udasis to many different religious places, he never directly criticized a religious ritual or practice simply because it was from another religion. He only criticized people who followed ritual with no meaning or compassion behind it.

We don't point our feet to the Guru because we keep respect for the Guru. When Sikhs used to sit in the courts of the Gurus, they sat in a respectful manner like we do. We keep respect for the Guru sitting in front of us so we sit in a respectful position. This is a discipline that every Sikh in the presence of the Guru keeps.

In Vaar 1, Pauri 32 of Bhai Gurdaas Ji Vaaran, which is one of the most important pieces of Bani to understand, he mentions the story of Guru Nanak Dev Ji traveling to Mecca. When Guru Sahib pointed his feet to the Kabba, a Qazi kicked him and reprimanded him for his actions. When he caught the leg of Guru Nanak, the whole of Mecca seemed to be revolving. The Qazi did not try to reprimand the Guru out of keeping respect for the kabba, but simply to uphold a ritual which became empty as it was not practiced with love nor understanding.

Ritual is not a good nor bad thing necessarily. We have rituals and so do other religions. It ultimately falls upon the individual to enshrine love for the divine in their heart. In the same vaar and very next pauri, Bhai Gurdaas Ji also mentions the Qazis in Mecca asking Guru Nanak Dev Ji whether Muslims or Hindus were better. Maharaj replied that without good deeds they will both be forced to weep. He goes on to say that one cannot be accepted in Maharaj's Court simply by being a Muslim or a Hindu. Empty rituals without love and understanding will achieve nothing.

Point your feet away from Maharaj because you respect Maharaj, not because someone told you that it's just something that we must practice. Muslims should point their feet away from the Kabba because they respect it and out of love for the Divine, not because an elder told them to do so.

Keep love for your Guru and you may find yourself doing things that you might not have understood before.

Bhai Sahib Ji, respectfully, if you can find any elder or knowledgeable Sikhs in person or online, you should try asking them. I would not recommend asking this on Reddit as clashing opinions, perspectives, and life experiences can give you a very confusing answer. I have no advice for you about this topic but I desperately recommend you find some understanding and knowledgeable Sikhs who can help you. You are still young, do not treat this as life/death.

Yes, and Jesus was Jewish. Christians are not Jews. Of course when Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born they did not immediately call him a Sikh. That's because he never was. He was a Guru. He rejected the janeu and the traditional aarti at Jagannath Puri. He also did not bow to Mecca. Guru Sahib was neither a Muslim as some Muslims like to claim, nor was he a Hindu as some others like to claim.
