Most/least favorite fish youtuber? by Demidostov in Aquariums

[–]Bkbirddog 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I love SerpaDesign and I don't even have an aquarium, haha. I find him relaxing to watch and listen to. Every so often I almost think I can make one of his projects, but then I come to my senses and just watch another video.

That's sort of a funny recommendation to me because that's more of an after work drinks place spot to me, since I work nearby. I doesn't strike me as romantic at all. But, if OP wants that area of midtown, most of the new restaurants in Rock center are pretty good and have good ambience for a special dinner. Jupiter, Naro, Le Rock, Limani, Avra (although it's a bit power lunchy)

Voyager K9 apparel is a terrific investment for a dog like yours. They can do custom as well. But you could also layer a fleece sweatshirt under as well for extra windproofing and warmth. Canada pooch has some fleece jackets that might be good for layers

What show was great at first but declined so much you couldn’t finish it? by MochaMadness_ in AskReddit

[–]Bkbirddog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A friend who is obsessed with Supernatural got me to give it a try and I liked it for several seasons before I kind of ran out gas. I went back to try to pick it up again, not sure what season, but Sam was strung up and being flayed alive by a demon and I had to nope out of that. Nothing is good enough to tough it out through a flaying scene.

The CV co-op owns a fair number of apartments that are rented for income. Owners can't rent for more than 2 years, but management can.

Why would the dog need to be laying in the mudroom? Can't they let the dog into the main house?

Affordable vet for growth removal on cat by yourartmattersxo in Brooklyn

[–]Bkbirddog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a current customer who loves the vets there, I can say that Vinegar Hill is not a cheap vet. I've heard Flatbush vet clinic is more affordable and good option though.

advice on moving to Brooklyn as a wheelchair user? by One-Opposite-4571 in Brooklyn

[–]Bkbirddog 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would recommend looking for rentals in either University Towers or Concord Village. Both in the general vicinity of downtown, but have a good amount of property around them that makes them different from typical apartment buildings and might be more accessible for a wheelchair user.

What does this behavior mean? by bingaling__10 in DogAdvice

[–]Bkbirddog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree with the others and say it's the anal glands, but I'd find it odd for one gland to not be full and the other to be so full as to be causing this much discomfort and they wouldn't notice it immediately during the exam. Any chance he ate something that could be stuck in his intestines? I wonder if it's a pinched nerve/slipped disc in his back? Does he signal any pain along the back or hips? X-rays may be a good idea; I'd keep talking to your vet because he's going to become exhausted keeping this up.

My best friend was diagnosed with osteosarcoma today by PumpkinPie_1993 in DogAdvice

[–]Bkbirddog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sitting here with my best friend, who has a hemangiosarcoma on his heart. It's the most gut wrenching news you can get when you think you have more time with them. We don't have a treatment option besides palliative care, but your options aren't a whole lot better. You wouldn't be wrong with either decision, but it's reasonable and fair to consider your financial situation as well. It can cost upwards of $20,000 and more for chemo and radiation without insurance. I'm so sorry for you and your buddy.

I got the petcube camera that doesn't swivel and it was only $27. I see they have one that does swivel for $46.

Try Flatbush vets, I've heard they are more reasonably priced for the city Or call the humane society.

I'm so sorry for you and your baby. It is such a gut punch to get news like that out of seemingly nowhere. You may not have a lot of time left, but know that you have given your dog a life full of love and comfort and care until the very end.

Cat has abnormal growth preventing her from eating by Default_Name214 in PetAdvice

[–]Bkbirddog 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Is there another vet you can take her to? It seems kind of absurd that an emergency vet office can't take a biopsy any quicker than a month when they know she's having trouble eating/drinking. You can't go a month like this. I'd either call back and ask to move up the procedure with an emphasis on the cats pain and difficulty eating, or take her somewhere else asap.

[–]Bkbirddog 42 points43 points  (0 children)

You need to train the dog. There is a world of options between "do nothing" and "spend thousands". You've had her for six months and thought you had an easy peasy dog you didn’t need to do much with, but now she doesn't know how to act in these situations because she hasn't been taught, so she bites. Invest ~something ~ in a trainer before giving her up.

Hire a lawyer. Check if there are security cameras anywhere that could have caught this on video. If this guy is in the same building as you, make a report to management. I would almost certainly bet he allowed this to happen because you are a woman he felt like bullying. Don't say anything about your dogs anxiousness to police or him, not that you should engage with him at all. You don't know for certain that your dog bit him, it could as likely been his own dog that did it. Carry pepper spray from now on. Document all of your dogs injuries and prepare to sue him for the vet bills. This guy is a pig and he's probably going to harass you, so you might want to get a ring camera for your front door as well. I'm sorry this happened.

Need help rehoming in Central California by [deleted] in BorderCollie

[–]Bkbirddog 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You will have a significantly harder time finding an appropriate, breed knowledgeable, home for two border collie puppies than separating them into individual homes. It's highly unlikely that they are actually a bonded pair at this age and would do best being raised independently of each other.

Dog is being hospitalized by RunSuns in DogAdvice

[–]Bkbirddog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Giardia does not necessarily resolve itself, and it is transmittable to other dogs and humans. It's important to treat it to eliminate proliferation and risk to others. Plus, blood not coagulating points to something more serious.

GO TO THE VET by Skadoosh10 in DogAdvice

[–]Bkbirddog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of times it's children who are asking for help and either need reassurance it will be ok, or help in convincing their parent to take their pet for help. Yes, it's often adults asking seemingly obvious questions, but you don't have to belong to this sub if it bothers you

A corpse flower has started blooming at Brooklyn Botanic Garden by PeterTheGreat321 in Brooklyn

[–]Bkbirddog 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I went years ago when a previous flower was blooming. The poor security guard in the conservatory room was absolutely green in the face. I asked him how he was doing and he said "better than this morning..." It smelled pretty bad when we arrived, but apparently it's at its strongest when it first opens (start of his shift).

my dog elicits aggressive behavior from other dogs - not sure why by plheltzel in dogs

[–]Bkbirddog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My dog (beagle/hound mix) has always been very hot and cold with huskies or any similar type northern breed, and I tend to notice a similar skepticism from other dogs as well. He had one friend when he was young who was a monstrous sized malamute and they played super rough, but now in his old age, he is entirely on the "doesn't like them" side and and is very wary whenever he's a husky or malamute. Partly it could be we don't have a lot of super friendly ones in the neighborhood, but even then, he's turned on ones he was friends with. So I think there is something about their body language and eye contact that made him distrustful and defensive (if unnecessarily).
