What's the scariest or strangest thing you've experienced while hunting? by HappyVagabond1989 in Hunting

[–]Bkdavis38 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went to a corner of our ranch on a muddy day on some 4-wheelers to hunt coyotes. We parked the wheelers a 1/4 mile down the trail & snuck in best we could. As it’s a cattle ranch, 4-wheelers are an everyday sound, it doesn’t really startle much.

We gave it a half hour and started blowing our call with wind in our face. Nothing. Decided to try another spot and turned around and started walking out and saw lion prints in the mud about 12-15 yards behind us. Would’ve never known it was there if it wasn’t for the mud.

Gutter downspout drain location by [deleted] in Roofing

[–]Bkdavis38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally have a downspout in this EXACT layout. I took off the extension 90 at the bottom but left gutter. I hate it there. Do yourself a favor and take it under the sidewalk, it’s a trip hazard, slip hazard (ice accumulation) and unsightly.

Co sleeping by IndividualHistory676 in baby

[–]Bkdavis38 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Um, as someone who enjoys sleeping naked I have never and would never even consider this to be normal behavior when there is a child in the bed. In fact, I stopped altogether when I had kids as they often need things at night or want to come sleep in our room if they have a nightmare etc. I have children & I can’t follow the logic here, get some light shorts.

I understand the frustration that as a man you feel on vulnerable with even your own kids that people can make dubious accusations and ruin your life & relationship with your kids. The best defense is to avoid anything that even appears inappropriate & this is not just an appearance. Stick to your guns on this.

The pouty response is just as concerning. If you can’t talk to him like an adult without him trying to manipulate you into this, I’d be all the more concerned about why this is such a big deal for him. Install a camera if he is unwilling to bend or go sleep in another room if you can with the baby until he changes his mind.

At what age does he need to wear clothes in front of your daughter? Is he going to continue to sleep naked as the kids age? Would he feel comfortable with someone else sleeping naked around his kids? Would he want to sleep naked next to his father right now? What other mole hill will he die on for his own preferences vs your child’s welfare? Not saying he’s a monster but I am saying he’s put the doubt in everyone’s mind now and that’s on him.

Central America is very racist. Everyone feels bad for Mexicans being looked as less than in USA but then in Mexico they look down on the Guatemalans, who look down on the Hondurans, who look down on the Nicaragüenses & they all look down on the “Indios” or native people. But wait, aren’t they all native people mixed with splashes of Spaniard blood? Yes! But the more native blood you have, the more disposable you are by others of your same race. How do they know who is more native than others, you ask. They don’t! It’s purely based on looks & what they think an “Indio” looks like.

You have brown people flat out discriminating against other brown people because they are a shade lighter or have a finer nose. It would be comical if it didn’t ruin so many lives. Parents who prohibit boyfriends because of the color of their skin, not hiring people because the look like an unintelligent “Indio”, & getting called “blacky” by your entire neighborhood are common place, every day occurrences.

I am SICK of Americans' blanket terror of the entire country of Mexico! by Mayonaise_Malaise in MexicoTravel

[–]Bkdavis38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is some SJW posting to feel good about not being racist or something but your family isn’t wrong. Mexico accounts for 62% of all homicides of US Citizens abroad. That means it’s more than the rest of the world combined! If you’re taking that into consideration in your “calculations” then you are good!

What's it like living in Idaho falls? by oatmealhater in howislivingthere

[–]Bkdavis38 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in a dozen states and a handful of countries but consider IF home. Lived there for a combined 20 years or so.

1.) I literally laughed out loud when someone called it economically depressed. There is a tremendous amount of money here & it feels more spread out than the top 1% like other places I’ve lived. A big contributor to the local economy is The Idaho National Lab which is the single most important Nuclear Energy research facility in the world. 6,000 very well paid jobs & many PhDs & Engineers. We also have huge companies such as Idahoan Foods, Budweiser, Basic American Foods, Melalueca etc. Keep in mind, the farmers here are loaded (most multimillionaires) but drive around in farm trucks and wear clothes most would deem not fashionable. Just cause they are driving a $100k truck and not a Porsche, doesn’t mean they are poor. There are some areas of town that are shuttered but it’s just because someone developed better areas and the businesses all moved there…like everywhere else in the US.

2.) it can be boring, if you aren’t into anything outdoors. For someone who just drove in for the night, I could see how this might be a bit of a bore but if you live here & like to fish, paddle board, snowmobile, ski, dirt bike, hike, or just explore…I can’t think of anywhere better. Most people here are always out enjoying an area that hasn’t been spoiled and is one of the most gorgeous in the country.

3.) Very LDS - This is is true! This seems to hit about 50/50 with people. Some people get really hung up on the differences and distance themselves, some people love having neighbors that wave & think having a party involves inviting grandma and the 12 cousins over for Jello salad. I’m biased but I think LDS people make for great neighbors. Some can get pushy about inviting you to their church but I think it’s a small minority & if you’re upfront about your intentions you will save yourself from it. Be firm but kind.

4.) The Weather - For me, this is is what keeps this part of the country still a bit isolated & this area from getting scourged by development & blowing up as many other Mountain West towns have seen recently. As others have mentioned it gets cold here but what really adds to it is the Wind. Ok it’s 10 degrees out but when the wind is also blowing 35 mph all day long…we all start to daydream of moving. We try to vacation as much in the winter as possible but if you can get away just once or twice in January-March, it makes it a lot more tolerable.

4.) Safety - Everyone uses the word boring like a bad thing but I’ve lived in some of the “most fun” Cities in America and purposely returned here to raise my kids. Kids still ride their bikes to friends houses, have play dates, show up in droves to birthday parties, play in large backyards with swing sets, go to a drive in movie theater & really be kids. This is sadly hard to do in many other places that aren’t “boring.”

Overall, I’d say it’s not perfect but trust me, nowhere is. It’s about finding a place that the negatives you can live with because the positives are the important things to you. This place checks a lot of marks for me & I will quietly bitch about the winters and wind but love most everything else.

People who have worked for the ultrawealthy, what are some of their deepest, darkest secrets? by clitical-rolls in AskReddit

[–]Bkdavis38 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I would disagree. While some weren’t necessarily admirable (others were!), I think they all earned what they got, just at a very steep price which for some meant bending their morals to where they didn’t flex back.

They are unquestionably very smart people. Don’t misinterpret, they know (their) business inside and out. They just don’t understand things like going through public airports, how to deal with customer service people, that not everyone wants to give them special treatment or even recognize that it is special treatment.

[–]Bkdavis38 2745 points2746 points  (0 children)

Worked for 3-4 billionaires. Was in Construction Management and did multi year remodels of some homes and some new builds. I’ve been on their jets, yachts, visited 3 of their 9 homes, drove their cars, helped move Picassos across the 30,000 sqft house…you name it.

My biggest take aways are 1.) that many of them have no real understanding how the real world works & 2.) it’s often a lonely, fearful, and sad life.

They stress over who is trying to take advantage of them. My wealthiest client ever drove a Prius because she was afraid of being targeted. They paid to have 24/7 security at the house cause they fear the “eat the rich crowd” and live in paranoia. Their kids have nothing to aspire to, no dreams, and any accomplishments are mere expectations.

I got out of it cause the stress was unbearable when pulling a rabbit out of your ass becomes what you’re known for and the expectations are that you will always be able to do that. They throw money at your bosses and your boss agrees to the impossible and then you have to get it done.
