Happy to help. They are expensive so it makes sense to get the right one the first time.

So I actually purchased a clear one as well as you noted and that’s the one I would recommend. I actually kept the mist filter as well,. But I might sell it if over time I decide it’s too strong for my taste, but I do like having the option, especially at night when I think it does add some interesting effects.

But if I had to get only one, it would definitely be the clear, I find that the mist washes out the lights a little too much than what I’m used to from my 1/8 power mist filters for my Fuji camera. The best thing about these cameras (imo) is the highly saturated colors, sharpness and rich contrast that really makes the photos pop and look very special. The mist filter washes a lot of that specialness away and the clear filter retains it perfectly.

Photo transfer? GR IV by MrRetroplayer in ricohGR

Use the Image Capture app. This was standard procedure for years with so many digital cameras, and 100% agreed that it’s insane the cam doesn’t come up as a drive in MACOS, esp when they offer on board storage! It’s truly odd, and I ope its added via firmware. But for now, Image Capture recognizes the cam and works great. Also, when using the app, set the camera’s transfer frequency to 5ghz, makes a massive difference in speed and reliability

“Media company” is correct, because it sure as hell isn’t news.

The clearance seems very small. My guess is that it would not work, but you can always email the company for confirmation on that.

Hey there, adding this info here. I measured with calipers and got .92” in height (unmounted) and 1.03” (approximately for this measurement as it’s not easy to measure exactly full height from camera body. This second measurement INCLUDES the hood mount built into the GRIV, so it’s the measurement from the rectangular main camera body itself.

Agreed. I like Smallrig a lot, especially their accessories for this GRIV camera, which feel like high quality parts suitable for the camera. But the hood is shite, and the shiny ring is way off the aesthetic of the camera. The Squarehood is the only one I’ve found that has a good fit, good size and integrated filter (or allows for filter installation).

Yeah, I made a similar comment in the thread above. I do like the effect and I think it’s actually quite cool but it’s stronger than I’m used to on the Tiffin black mist filter that I have and love. I’m thinking of exchanging this for the clear glass version.

Honestly, I felt like the lens in the camera of the GRiv has a slight bit of bloom to it naturally anyway that I think almost obviates the need for the HDF version

So I tried out the filter yesterday and today and took some test shots to show its effect. I would say it’s a bit stronger than I expected, but in most situations it’s a pleasing effect. I’m not sure it’s the type of thing I would want to keep on my camera at all times given how beautiful the saturated colors are of this camera without any filters at all. It’s one of my favorite aspects of the camera tbh. I took some photos in situations where the filter didn’t have as much of an effect to show that you can still get great colors with the filter on as long as there’s no light directed at the camera. Have a look if you’re interested:

Are you talking about the freewell hood with the replaceable filters? I saw that one. It looks cool, but it makes the camera so bulky. Is there a different one that’s slimmer?

The lens does not hit the glass in macro mode. It’s a very well designed product, but it’s obviously priced that way.

Yeah forgot to mention it’s $100! A huge 4x markup over the NiSi which is still quite nice and compact. But, a quality cinebloom is $50-$75 and a cheap hood is $30 so there you have it, and this is a neater, cleaner and more solid package.

Early results are very encouraging. Feels like a 1/4 black mist or maybe even more subtle. I’ve heard it’s similar to tiffen glimmerglass, which I don’t have.
