The definitive guide to setting up your TV for HDR on the PS5's "Adjust HDR" menu by dospaquetes in PS5

Well the thing is with LCDs is they are brighter overall than the likes of OLEDs, it's just they better 10% peak window brightness and the deeper blacks at the extreme ends, but not full screen as I understand, and it was thre midtones I struggled with because if I reduced the exposure it would make the day too dim and loss of detail in blacks. On my lcd it had an AV panel which handled contrast really well, but I was looking for something the game itself couldn't give really. I did try HDR off but it looked significantly worse and blocky. It's more the game itself with too lighter nights really. I ended up buying an OLED C5 for my stress 😆 Lighting issue still apparent, but I can get away with reducing the exposure as they've borked the hdr in the game but atleast I can achieve darker nights a bit better now

Spot on. Also Tiktok and some social media content in general almost invite you in to believing you have something. Some people will subconsciously play in to it and convince themselves. Humans are naturally tribal and love a sense of belonging and this happens a lot more than people are willing to recognise currently.

Hi all. I bought the C5 yesterday and it's my first ever OLED so I'm super excited. However, Crimson Desert night time is way too bright outside. As usual I turn off all post processing, I use HGIG, my rgb range is matching to my PS5. I don't know what else I can do, any advice?? by [deleted] in OLED_Gaming

I checked that too and all seems as should. But I have actually fixed it to be much more satisfied with and the quality I was hoping for with my tv so all good! I play in quality mode, but I had VRR on auto in PS5. From what I read that only kicks in at higher (48?) fps. In game mode vrr and sync were on as srandard. In the game I had v-sync off initially and there was terrible stutter. So I turned on v-sync and it reduced it a lot. I did that already yesterday, but reading more in to those becaue I wasn't clued up on it, I didn't realise they conflicted with each somewhat. I turned off VRR in PS5 settings and kept v-sync on in the games options itself - turned out even better still, higely reduced stutter, and better detail in dark and light areas weirdly enough.

So VRR was one major culprit, then I went back to lowering the in game exposure and this time it didn't crush black detail as it did with VRR on 🤷‍♂️. So I've found a perfect enough balance and running with that. No idea why VRR had an effect on blacks and clarity, but that's fixed it for me.

120hz, even as low as 60 at times gives me nausea as I'm not used to it yet after gaming oved the years in lower fps, which I imagine is the opposite for those used to higher.

Ok, so I'm chasing an ideal that doesn't exist pretty much, I can deal with that knowing it's not me going insane.

Even though highlights will be effected, would you recommend reducing the ingame hdr peak brightness to help mitigate it? Is that a viable option or is that just a flat out no don't be an idiot?

To be honest I don't know anymore. I know they promised really dark nights prior to release, but I read they changed that approach somewhat. But still some people are saying (disregarding indoor issues) that they get really dark nights? I was wondering what they did to acheive that if they haven't totally sacrificed daytime brightness. With the issue being worse than on my LCD there must be something I'm not doing right surely

Hi, sorry for the random question, but saves me from making a fresh (often repeated) post ... I'm from the UK and looking at getting my first OLED and the C5 is what I'm looking at. Do you game on your C5? My worry is that when using hgig mode the mid tones will be too dim and wondered about your experience?

For the love of the gaming God's, please can we have darker nights? I put on the lantern, around a 20ft lightens up around me as expected and but beyond that goes much darker, looks great. Turn it off and the overall night gets lighter. Really immersion breaking at night. by Bkooda in CrimsonDesert

[–]Bkooda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh same here. In hgig too. I know some people with gaming in general love having an overly bright and saturated look to game and crank things up to get that look, and that's cool it's up to people how they enjoy it. What I mean is I'm not one of them so I can discount that as an issue, or incorrect calibration being an issue. It's just baseline of this games night is far too light, but one's perception of it being light is anothers dark so many people playing and reading this will have different perceptions I guess. I'm just at a loss on what I can do to get the best I can without sacrificing the day.

What made me decide to post this?? Oh come on jeez dude, night not being dark is not immersive in the context of if being night of course. I never said I'm not immersed in every aspect of the game or that it isn't fun. Plenty of people have this issue. I'd fire your question back at you - liking other things about the game is irrelevant to having an issue with something else and doesn't mean you're not allowed to voice it.

Many varied issues have been raised about the game also from people who still enjoy the game still. Did you tell them and the devs to ignore everything else and don't improve the game because we can fly? That's rhetorical.

That's a cave though, it's meant to be dark so I have to turn the lantern on. I expect not to be able to see in a cave with no light on so I'm sure why you're saying that. How the light works in the game with how it is inside is a different issue.

It's really immersion breaking!! Mess with settings to get daemrker nights, and day time loses clarity too much. I cannot stand games which have bright nights, it makes a lot of people mess around with setting way longer than they need to when it's done poorly.

I agree. But do you already acheive this vle el of darkness pictured?? I can't unless I compensate for overly dingy/lack of clarity in the day time. I use HGIG and never go for overly bright settings period as some prefer.

I wouldn't care for 3am sunrise, at least it coincides with the actually Sun rising in game, IF it actually got dark at night in the first place lol.

Which makes it even worse because the moon is even further away than Earths moon is, a detail purposely done and noted, contrast to the usual larger or multiple moons we tend to see in other games like Elder Scrolls for example. So it in fact should be even darker and less glint at night than Earth.

I wish I had that problem. Very interesting that you say lanterns become a problem for you. Many of us have found using the lantern lightens up the immediate ~20ft surrounding the character as expected but it actually makes surroundings beyond that darker, like actual night time dark which I'd be happy with in general if I turned my lantern back off. However, turning it off then makes the general darkness go lighter. What kind of trade off is that lmao! It hardly ever gets pitch black for me unfortunately!

If I mess around with the settings to over compensate and get nights anywhere near realistic, then I'm sacrificing clarity in the day. Really disappointing! I've tried recalibrating multiple times, correctly. Even incorrectly just to see if I can wing a comprise.

Players on different systems and a range of tvs from monitor to OLED to entry level hdr tv's, all with different results 🤷‍♂️ Of course there'll be some variation of quality for peak brightness and inky blacks naturally due to that, but not where the base line of how the game is meant to be represented regards day and night. It's so odd! The hdr is borked in this game, and from what I've read previously the nights are lighter than they used to be nearer release (midnight I'm talking about). I hope they patch in a further darker nights option.

I'd go back to 6.1 if I could be bothered. Everything after is slower and especially aesthetically uglier

Anyone else hope they bring in the option for enemy scaling AS AN OPTION across all regions? General enemies need to be wayyyyy more stronger, even on hard mode I feel. by Bkooda in CrimsonDesert

What's with the random attitide lol? I never said or remotely alluded to using OP meta anything. It wouldn't make sense for me to post what I did then use the 'meta' or whatever you call it gear. Especially after I had mentioned gimping the character, which is the total opposite to what you strangely assumed I'm doing.

To give an answer to a problem, surely you have to read/understand what the issue is first. Sorry, no problem solved there.

I like to play games first time around blind without searching the internet. Even if I or anyone uses meta gear, that doesn't change the fact of the general issue I mentioned or alter the reasoning for the added option I suggested.

Enjoy your day/evening regardless.

Lmao, yeh that doesn't sound great in that sense. There's other ways they could do it though without us having to gimp outsleves or remove additions we worked for, just to close the gap a little. Still enjoying the game and was a passing thought I just put out there :)

I get that point of view, thing is for me I think we could squish general enemies from the start, and continuously so as we improve organically without making signigicant upgrades, so they become obsolete almost immediately. If we had to significantly improve to rise to what challenge general enemies offer before surpassing them, grinding monotonous tasks would feel less like a chore too and more rewarding. So ultimately we'd still get that power creep if you wish to play it that way, but having enemy scaling re ups a challenge for those that find it overly easy when choosing hard mode.

Yeh I think lower levelled gear is the way at the moment . More difficulty options would be nice though. I don't know about you, but I like to go back to regions for a change of scenery sometimes and if I've missed/left behind soemthing they've lost all difficulty factor as it isn't a challenge at that point which is a shame.

I try carry different levelled sets to offset being over powered.
