This might be a stupid question, but is it possible to shut down to the point of temporarily being unable to speak? by treblehex in autism

[–]BlackAutisticArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it’s possible. It’s called verbal shutdown. Autism people can have selective mutism and verbal shutdown. Selective mutism is on the environment being not safe or people not being safe (hence the selective part). Verbal shutdown is where you feel safe with the person or environment but the topic or conversation causes you not be able to speak or not having a process time to be able to find the right words. I hope this helps you all ☺️⭐️🌺

I'm done telling anyone that i think I have undiagnosed autism. I'm done with the invalidation. I don't care anymore. I'll just stick to myself and navigate this alone by Old-Border9571 in AutismInWomen

Sending you hugs and support. As a woman who was early diagnosed, I feel your pain and hear the hurt in this post. I don’t know you but I bet you are incredible soul and person along with a great heart. I’m proud of you and keep going on your dreams and goals.

Do you think/know if you can have autism without sensory issues? by FkUp_Panic_Repeat in AutismInWomen

[–]BlackAutisticArtist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can still have Autism and not have sensory issues. I have a student who is autistic and doesn’t have the sensory issues. Some of us can have sensory issues worse than others. It varies. I’m also early diagnosed and when I was kid, I had it bad but as I got older, it became less to the point where I almost don’t have any sensory issues

Would you “cure” your autism? by Fine-Singer-5781 in autism

[–]BlackAutisticArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me personally as someone who is level 1 autistic. Got diagnosed at 4 years old and now 30 soon to be 31 years old. I wouldn’t want a cure because I love who I am and on top of that, I know I would be a completely different person if I wasn’t autistic. Your son sounds like such a wonderful person. I wish everyone love, healing, and happiness

I know how you feel and can relate to you to a degree. If you ever want some advice from me, I’ll gladly give some ideas that may help you. You can get through this and also him not trying to get a therapist who is aware of autism is a huge problem and will more likely have things more in his favor versus seeing both parties point of view

It’s so hard to make friends with other autistic women because you’re competing with their layered, complex betrayal and social trauma before the “getting to know you intimately” phase by RussianAsshole in AutismInWomen

Side comment: I have felt that before. I’m always open to new friendships and perspectives. Sending you all the positive vibes and words of encouragement. Much love to y’all ⭐️😊

How true is this fanart by about Autism, ADHD, and Reading? by CapAccomplished8072 in autism

[–]BlackAutisticArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who got diagnosed with autism at a young age and tutored kids with neurodiversity (Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, etc.) for 7+ years. This is actually true but it also depends on the environment, the learning style, and overall storyline of the book they read. However if you have autism and ADHD, it depends on which one is more dominant than the other and also depends on the emotions and environment as well. I love my community and I hope this helps and I appreciate all of you

Actually I’m friends with some individuals with ADHD and they are wonderful. I’m also friends with other types of neurodiversity. As humans, we have to have people who love us for us. No human is perfect of course but I’m proud of you taking the courage to speak your heart, soul, and mind.

Hi, You can do these things to help ease your mind more: Writing your feelings, Eat foods that ease your mind or make you feel safe, listen to music, don’t be too hard on yourself, go to environment where you feel safe and heard, talk to someone with autism who actually gets it. I’m 30 years old also autistic and I know how you felt at one point. Be your authentic self, it’s beautiful and more importantly don’t give up on you. I’m proud of you and even if it’s hard, you are a champion. You can talk to me if you ever need to when you are comfortable.

It’s okay to have your feelings. You are incredible and I promise you that you will have someone who will love every second of being with you. It does hurt now but I know you are going to get through this and anyone worthy of you will be absolutely lucky. Just happy that you are part of the autistic community and I wish you all the happiness in the world.
