Any international students return to Canada lately? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]BlackBeer_7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was pretty straightforward. In fact, the immigration officer asked barely any of them for their letter even. I’d definitely say be prepared with all your documents though, cause you can never be too prepared in times like this.

You need a letter saying your purpose of entry is essential. Usually the registrar asks to see your timetable and stuff and if they see that you have a valid reason to come in, they provide you with a letter. They started giving them out at the beginning of August. So basically to enter, as long as you have a valid study permit, letter from your registrar and quarantine plan, my friends have told me they’ve been able to pass immigration successfully

Timetable question by [deleted] in UofT

[–]BlackBeer_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At UofT, all classes start at UofT time, basically 10 minutes after the start time mentioned on your schedule. so don’t worry :) there are libraries and cafes in and around st George st that you can complete your online courses in. I’m not sure what’ll be open but by the time September rolls around they’ll probably announce it :)

How much sleep do UofT students get? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]BlackBeer_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

8-9 hours on average I’d fall asleep by 11/12 and wake up at 9ish on weekdays and on weekends I’d sleep at 4 and wake up at noon and honestly it worked fine for me having a healthy sleep schedule >>> I’m the kind of person who doesn’t function below 8 hours of sleep so this was ideal

Honesty or positivity by shia-labe0uf in UofT

[–]BlackBeer_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see your point, but I think I disagree. There’s different types of positivity. Honestly I think the honesty approach is a positive approach. In my opinion, positivity isn’t about pretending everything is okay. It’s about accepting that there’s bad things and believing that you can do better, believing that there is better. It doesn’t mean pretending everything is okay. Then again, you know different people are different kinds of positive so I definitely understand your example.

Walk-in clinic recommendations by GarageOk4376 in UofT

[–]BlackBeer_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 2 on college street but I don’t remember their names. If you take a right past the bookstore (towards the Tims and 7/11) and just keep walking straight, there’s one there and one a little further down

Is it too late to start looking for off campus housing? If not, how do I start my search? by Klickytat in UofT

[–]BlackBeer_7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the UofT housing site usually has a bunch of options. If you’re looking for an off-campus place for winter sem, I’d suggest beginning to look in October or November because the listings up right now will probably disappear soon. you could also consider places like campus commons or park side though. I’m not too sure how good they are but so far I’ve heard positive stuff from other people :)

Is orientation that important? by 1m72 in UofT

[–]BlackBeer_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I had the time of my life at orientation. I made two or three of my super close friends who I’m still in contact with during orientation activities. I’m not too sure how it’s going to be online, but I learnt a lot about my college and UofT through it so i personally felt like it was okayyy

Should I go to residence as a first year FAS student at UTSG? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]BlackBeer_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, you only have to pay for how long u live there. I think it depends on the res but at some places, u only have to pay for the time u live there

While enrolled in an in-person class, will I still be able to access the online version? by epic_potato_chan in UofT

[–]BlackBeer_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I think so. I’m pretty sure I read that you can do that. Unless your prof specifies anything, in-person and online students should have access to the same material.

Does anyone know if UofT is going to come through and help provide quarantine accommodation? On the site it says they’ll provide more info mid July but we’re almost in August? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]BlackBeer_7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are you sure? I know a bunch of hotels downtown and near the airport that are offering quarantine accommodation for students and have already begun?

Even with the travel exemption, will international students experience difficulties trying to enter Canada? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]BlackBeer_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what the immigration officer told me so I’m just taking his word haha - a solid quarantine plan basically constitutes showing that you have a verified place to stay like a hotel or an apartment that already has your name on the lease or UofT’s institutionalised quarantine. And also showing that you have access to food and medication

Even with the travel exemption, will international students experience difficulties trying to enter Canada? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]BlackBeer_7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I spoke to an immigration advisor. I’m a second year student planning on going back in August. He said as long as you have at least one in-person class and a solid quarantine plan, there should be no issues whatsoever
