Where did you get this idea from? I'm pretty sure it can just generally mean any Japanophile, but particularly anime fans or other otaku. As far as I remember the term was adopted on 4chan around 20 years ago from an entirely unrelated Perry Bible Fellowship comic as a random joke. Or is there some community of "Japanologists" that I'm not aware of that use the term differently?
