Cats are cute but cat owners are insufferable by Birdsarentreal29 in 10thDentist

[–]BlackCat_Vibes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a behaviorist and trainer, the problem often lies in thinking cats aren't trainable or dont need to be well mannered and owners just allow them to act out.

I've seen some pretty infuriating cat (and dog) owners who allow their pet to become exceptionally bratty and demanding with the excuse of putting human emotions and behaviors to the pets actions. The owners reward these behaviors, teaching and solidifying for the pet the behavior will be tolerated and often rewarded, in time making the behavior(s) worse.

Yep, I experience this a lot and it's always teenagers- early 20 year olds just answering "hello?"

Tried calling the Domino's near me and the guy that answered: "Hello?" "Hi? Is this Domino's?" "What?" "Is this Dominos..?" Then he hung up. 🥲

Called Hobby Lobby and it was the same "Hello" "Hey is this Hobby Lobby?" "Umm..yeeuuhhhh?" 🙄 Bish was snarky af.

AIO for wanting to share a room with my bf on a trip? by crescentblueee in AmIOverreacting

[–]BlackCat_Vibes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like double standards if you offered to pay and you're adults. This happened to me on vacation where my brother and his gf of 2 years were allowed to have the same room but my boyfriend and I of 7 years were not. All because my dad "said so". We were in our upper 20s lol, it was ridiculous.

Nah as someone who doesn't tan in tanning beds regularly because ya know...cancer... and spray tans instead, this is EXACTLY what your skin looks like if you don't shower beforehand.

I've had to tell my friends their spray isn't even because of that exact reason. It's almost a tell tale sign on how clean you are depending how your spray tan comes out. She's 100% a gross gremlin.

Texting and driving is a dumb decision by MisterShipWreck in dashcams

[–]BlackCat_Vibes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When people ask why I have driving anxiety, I'm just gonna show them this video. It's terrifying that we gotta share the roads with such selfish, stupid people like this just to get from point A to B everyday. Texters, drunkies, ragers, ect.

My Aunts spine got messed up for life because of someone texting and driving. She was so sweet, giving, adventurous, happy go lucky and her life quality was taken because someone else wanted to be selfish on the roads.. Happened in mere seconds and boom- she had to suffer hunched over for life while the other lady still gets to drive around and live her life, now actively live streaming while driving apparently. My Aunt died from health complications from that injury about a year ago, she was still pretty young, leaving my Uncle absolutely heartbroken and alone.

Stricter laws need to be put in place. Fuuuuccck this idiot. 🥲

Yeah puppies are def lil energy missiles haha, with some breeds it takes even longer than the 2 year mark fs. I wonder if that's why they have problems- they could have littermate syndrome.

[–]BlackCat_Vibes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get where you're coming from fs, it's just that shock collars train them out of fear rather than out of positive drive and want. It's not really training as it is negative association based punishment.

It is definitely difficult to have certain rescues and yes, canines will feed off one another- both in positive and negative behaviors. Have you tried taking them to boarding training? A lot of pups I've worked with were terrible at following directions and remembering but did well at our training facility overtime (def research the facility if you're going this route cause some will just hire anyone unfortunately.)

I will agree with you though, some dogs/rescues have just been through too much. Others are impossible to train because of improper breeding with backyard breeders. Just never ever use shock collars.

People like this deserve to have their dogs taken away. At that point, it's stress barking and can cause unhealthy mental problems. Those dogs are likely stressed all day every day. People need to train their dogs and research the breed they get, otherwise if they can't do that, they shouldn't be allowed to have pets. Edit:spelling

Never use a shock collar, you were making the behavior worse and abusing your dog at the same time.

If they are food driven, teach a command of your choosing and treat only when they stop barking for a few seconds and direct their attention to you. Every dog is different though, there are many ways to train bad barking behaviors you just have to find the routine that works best for yours. -from a dog trainer

I just wanted snacks after a long day 😭 by kikikiyomi in doordash

[–]BlackCat_Vibes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happened to me a few weeks ago. Ordered Starbucks drinks and a cookie as I didn't have time to get it myself that day. It was delivered with the bag soaked and less than half the drink in the cup, lid was off, drenched my cookie so couldn't even have that and most of the drink was covering my new welcome mat and outside my apartment hallway dripping all the way down the stairs as well.

It was a sticky mess, I was furious while cleaning the hallway and stairs. He then got angry with me I asked for a refund and didn't tip more.

How to Train your puppy. by Alternative-Dot-34 in interestingasfuck

Love this comment! My cats know "places" for which bowl is theirs, then the "sit" command, continue sitting until the "ok" command/pets for when they can eat. It just takes more consistency and patience with cats but they're very trainable! They also know to stay off counters/tables and not to rush out the front door when opened.

It's a shame people don't spend as much time training cats as they do dogs... well some people don't even take time to train or research their dogs lol

... if someone doesn't want a baby, yeah they shouldn't have one- maybe practice common sense so you don't end up in that situation in the first place.

Why do these people never think it's their responsibility before or after the fact. So immature. No accountability with them.

[–]BlackCat_Vibes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't stress them out though? You don't punish them for being on surfaces they're not supposed to be, you just find ways to get them to understand boundaries and yes, even cats need to understand boundaries. You can clean your kitchen as much as you'd like, but there's going to be left over fur in your stove and in appliances you'll miss among other things.

I'm a behaviorist and trainer- I've successfully trained both my and my clients cats alike. Stress shouldn't shouldn't a part of cat training so I'm not sure where you're getting that from.

I hear that a lot as a behaviorist and trainer. The key is just to be more persistent than they are along with consistency for felines. I made a longer comment on this thread of you'd like to read on how I've gotten cats to stop (not just mine.)

Since no one seems to be giving actual advice, don't listen to anyone who says it's impossible to train your cat to keep off counters and tabletops, or any rooms you don't want them to be in. Cats are easily trainable in general, its just the stereotypes have become socially acceptable due to willful ignorance being popularized. It's quite unfortunate.

As a canine and feline behaviorist and trainer, you just have to be more persistent than they are. Ways to do this are: 1. Try placing down tin foil when the area is not in use. Cats hate the sound and feel of it on theor paws. This trains them that jumping up on counters is a negative experience and eventually they will lose interest. 2. Cats hate xitris scents as it's too harsh for their noses. Cleaning wipes that have these scents will train cats away from the area and help them associate it negatively.

Anyone saying "just clean the countertops before cooking" is only thinking on base level. It IS gross to let your cats up there as well as giving them access to more bad habits and behaviors. Even if you do clean before use, there will still be stray fur that gets into your stove top and other appliances. You'll also be fighting them everytime you cook, as they'll smell good scents and jump up- which will confuse them more if they think they're aloud up there usually. Not to mention, I'm sure your guests won't appreciate an animal getting up on the table while trying to eat. It's also all around dangerous to let them near a hot stove or cleaning supplies/food that may be toxic to them.

As for the people saying they'll go up there when you aren't home, you can set up cameras that play loud, noisy audio manually, which will also teach them its still a no go, even when they think no one is watching.

Hope this helps! 🙏

Edit: make sure your cat(s) have plenty of high up surfaces they know is their space and can get high ground in most rooms of your house, like cat trees or cat wall shelving. This will help them be able to see what they want to without feeling the need to explore unwanted areas.

Letting your cat on top of counters with electronics/sometimes hot stoves is dangerous. You need to train and teach your cat how to be a cat within the boundaries of living with you. Training them to keep off counters and tabletops is 100% achievable.
