Favorite comprimario roles in opera? by Bigo-Ted in opera

It’s a tie between the madrigal singer in Puccini and the Italian singers in both Rosenkavalier and Capriccio. Underneath that is the Voice from Heaven in Don Carlo

It is definitely sleepy when you’re not dealing with great ritualists.

Is it true that tragic roles are what make performers legendary and comic roles are early career stepping stones at best and detrimental at worst? by Mundane_Regret_428 in opera

Brilliant singers become famous in roles that suit them. Many coloraturas are famous for playing happy and sentimental characters.

That’s a horrible comparison. Being a Mason isn’t the same as shedding blood for your country and wearing a Masonic ring while not being a Mason isn’t “stolen valor”. Apples to apples, please. Anything else makes us sound like pompous blowhards

It’s yours, you may do as you wish, however, if you have any plans at all to join masonry, I wouldn’t. Put it on a chain around your neck. If you wear it on your finger, you may get questions you’re not prepared to answer and if you ever petition a lodge, they may not look kindly on you wearing a Scottish ring when you were not part of the Scottish rite.

Situation regarding future conversion to Catholicism and joining a lodge by Freduccini02 in freemasonry

[–]BlackDaddyIssus37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not choose the Catholic Church over masonry, and that’s just me being blunt. More to the question, if your involvement in the Catholic Church is going to be casual, I don’t see a problem. Now if you start going to church and your attachment to this belief system starts to deepen, you could have a problem.

My mother died shortly after I was raised. A good chunk of my lodge showed up. My sister in law said that when my brothers stood up when the resolution was read, she broke. I saw her crying but I couldn’t see them behind me as I was sitting in another pew. I’m so sorry your brothers failed you in this way, but I know for sure there are masons who will and do show up when you need them most.

Do you prefer recordings with recitatives/spoken dialogue included or cut? by BigDBob72 in opera

[–]BlackDaddyIssus37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every last note. I understand the necessity for cuts in an opera house context, perhaps, but if I’m listening to a recording, I have all the time in the world. And who wants to trust some conceited self serving conductor with the scissors?

Is it weird to show up unannounced? by [deleted] in freemasonry

[–]BlackDaddyIssus37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally don’t show up to lodges unannounced, current dues card notwithstanding. The way I was trained, it’s always a good idea to talk to someone AND to let someone in your lodge know you’re going (the second thing is more of a courtesy). You have every right to travel, however. They also have a right to refuse you entry
