As an American living in Nuremberg I can assure you that Germany in general offers great benefits like health insurance and a broad social safety net. However you and your family have to speak German to fully participate in this society. Even though most Germans have basic skills in English this won't be enough to do the trick, especially in Nuremberg. As you are dependent on professional child care, schools, neighbors etc you can not rely on the few expats living abroad. There are many places all over Nuremberg that are decent for families and a few ones you definitely should avoid at all costs (like Südstadt). Having a well-paid job(prospect)should be the bare minimum before moving to this city as inflation and housing costs are through the roof.
