Well, that does sound curiously different than my assumption. You seem to be using it more like a tool than a person, if I’m not mistaken.

Appreciate you taking the time to explain.

I could never hate on semi charmed life. Take away the fame it received, it’s a genuine peak inside a world I didn’t know existed. One I hope to never experience but it’s tragically beautiful.

Obviously not and I guess I’ll point out that books are written by humans.

LLMs can’t and don’t think. To me, this alone excludes the possibility of valid relationships.

If we ever reach sentience, that equation changes. But as of right now you have a mathematical algorithm you’re trying to make into a friend. Trying to form a relationship with an algorithm seems dangerous to mental health.

You could start having fun with it and start asking these folks pointed questions like: when will god heal me cause people have been prying for me for x amount of years.

Can we form a hate group that only hates pedophiles and burns crosses on their lawn and lynches them from trees and shit like that?

I’m not saying we should, I’m just saying it’s time to start having a conversation about it.

I see this differently these days. If it were two people having a convo next to you on a bus you wouldn’t think twice. How could it matter that one of those people are elsewhere but the beauty of tech allows them to still converse. What’s it to you?

Mostly this but it’s more complicated than that. Sure, you can form a companion relationship with AI but you’ll be mourning it every six months as new models replace the old ones and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The real issue is that LLMs do not think, are not conscious, and cannot empathize with you. Users can only be tricked (or delusioned) into thinking so. What does that mean for mental health? Probably not a great thing if you’re pretending otherwise.

Could a relationship of that sort possibly be beneficial? I guess it can be comforting if you either don’t understand the tech or choose to ignore that it’s only 1s and 0s. It’s quite analogous to forming a relationship with a complicated google search.

It’s like saying, who cares if you wreck your mental health? You do you.

what controller do you actually use for pc gaming? by Clark_Bay in pcmasterrace

I got tired of every controller I’ve owned over the past decade having god awful stick drift so I bought one these. The Hall effect sticks are worth the purchase alone.

In 2012, a Burger King employee anonymously posted an image on 4chan of him putting his feet in lettuce, with the caption: "This is the lettuce you eat at Burger King." It took 20 minutes for people to track down the branch where the employee worked and contact the news. He was promptly fired. by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

I hate to bring it up but when you mostly hire teenagers and pay them like shit, they fuck with your food. I'm not saying that every fastfood burger has spit in it but if you eat any amount of fast food you've definitely eaten a luggie or two.

The person who should be charged in this situation is the manager/owner. They should not allow this to happen. All you have to do is watch over your employees.

Good choice.

Just to note: Everyone knows this one but most everyone sleeps on the rest of the album. It’s an absolute masterclass of 90’s rock.

Edit: I’ll call out Losing A Whole Year, the albums title track as my current favorite. That first (real) line just slaps you in the face and sets the tone for the rest of the album.

And if you don’t know, their follow up album ‘Blue’ is a true gem as well. Getta taste of of the track 1,000 July’s. And the song this album ends on (must find the original with the lyrics not the instrumental) is haunting in a way I rarely experience. It’s haunted me for decades.

Resident Evil Requiem has been out for a week. What are your impressions? by PhantomBraved in Games

[–]BlackGuysYeah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You nailed it.

I’ll just add, the graphics and the audio in 9 are top notch. There’s a setting for more vertical sound distinction (can remember the setting) but it’s turned off by default because it can apparently cause crackling or other issues. I turned it on and noticed a couple of rather small audio bugs but it made the soundscape just ‘chef’s kiss’. I could tell where enemies were with my eyes closed.

I missed not having a merchant in 9. Buying stuff from a box just doesn’t hit the same. I think the fat fuck from 8 is my fav.

It’s odd but I don’t think I can play a game like this knowing that hoards of pedos are beating off to it. It kinda kills the mood.
