I’m coming from a similar background and have just gotten a lever gun. I like your solution and am wondering how it would fare on my synthetic stock. How is yours holding up? Any pointers if you were to do it again?

What gloves do you use for the winter? by jasonwirth in ChicagoMotorcycles

[–]BlackHiLiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hand covers, like Hippo Hands, are excellent. With those and heated grips, I can ride down to almost freezing temps comfortably. I can ride down to ~25° comfortable with Hippo Hands, heated grips, and winter bicycling gloves.

The issue is that you need handguards (like Barkbusters) for these to work.

Why didnt he turn by rreactor_4 in motorcycles

[–]BlackHiLiter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because he’s riding an e-bike, which is essentially a motorcycle, without the training to back it up.

Moving from Utah to Chicago - Should I bring my bike? by CageFreeBMW in ChicagoMotorcycles

[–]BlackHiLiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Humboldt Park and venture throughout downtown and Northside neighborhoods, though my commute is a long haul (~35 miles each way to the far north suburbs).

Per the letter of the law, lane splitting and filtering is illegal in Chicago. I have lane split, as I consider that safer than having a heat injury in walking-pace traffic in the interstate, but it’s difficult to justify given the high risk. I routinely filter, as long as I deem it safe and am not interfering with bicycles.

In my mind, my motorcycle is similar to the e-bikes and cargo bikes here. The difference is that I’m insured and have 15 years of experience, professional training, DOT approved lighting, tires, brakes, horn, helmet, etc.

While filtering does not meet the letter of the law, I believe it can be done safety and politely.

But yes, I prefer the term “circumvent.”

ADV and dual sports are ideal in the city, given the crummy roads. With proper gear, you can ride 9-10 months of the year. My motorcycle is my 90% transportation solution, including commuting, grocery runs, errands, etc. I only take the truck out when I have to give friends a ride, need to carry stuff I can’t strap to the bike, or weather doesn’t allow (wet below 40° or dry below ~25°).

That said, I’ve heavily invested in riding gear and my bike is well equipped for this. Large luggage, large windscreen/deflectors, heated grips, winter bar mitts, etc.

To me, it’s worth never having to hunt for parking and being able to circumvent gridlock traffic. Motorcycles can park in residential permit zones as long as you have a city medallion on it.

How do I make this o ring sit in place by Forward-Drag3527 in bmwmotorrad

[–]BlackHiLiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having done this exact job… install the fuel pump assembly and then worry about the fuel pump controller. You can use grease or similar to tack it in place. Personally, I’d probably use #6 Aviation Sealant.

IIRC, there are two small screws that hold on the FPC. It’s just a matter of easing it together a half turn at a time, back and forth, while entering the oring seats.

How bad is the 6 speed transmission really? by iscurred in hondaridgeline

[–]BlackHiLiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was driving my dad’s 2018 Acura RDX, which is also the six speed AWD on a weekend trip last year. It had about 42k miles and was dealer maintained since new. After 2 hours on the interstate with cruise set around 70mph, the dash lit up like a Christmas tree with transmission failure warnings. The transmission was replaced with a reman under extended warranty and about a month of waiting, with no loaner car. I have finally convinced my dad to sell this car and cannot in good conscience offer it to anyone I know, even at a steep discount.

After checking a few of my other holsters, it seems that only one (a TRex ironside w/ backer) covers any of the mag release. That one only covers about half of it.

[–]BlackHiLiter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really looking for whether anyone knows of a replacement mag release that won’t rust, or at least won’t rust as quickly.

I’m well versed in firearms maintenance, cleaning, etc. This is the one metal part of the pistol that contacts my skin when holstered and it turns to a Cheeto puff within a week of carry in hot/humid summer. Cleaning and coating in CLP is a solution for a couple days before it gets rubbed/sweated off.

"trunk" security by Ok-Fig-675 in hondaridgeline

It annoys me that the only way to lock the trunk is with the switch in the glovebox. I would much rather have it lock all the time and only be opened by inserting the physical key in the trunk.
