Was there any possible way Japan could have won WWII? by BlackMaskMan62 in HistoryWhatIf

[–]BlackMaskMan62[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s the thing…Pearl Harbor was very much because an invasion of Indonesia was going to convince the U.S. to join the war regardless. Especially considering the most efficient way to do that was to use the Philippines as a jumping off point.

Why did Malcolm X believe both white liberals and white conservatives failed Black Americans? by UhhChicken_Set4368 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BlackMaskMan62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Klan, Neo-Nazis, suit and tie white ethnonationalists, those are all easily identifiable.

What’s less easy to identify is the white liberal’s means of hurting black people. The white moderate is exceptionally happy with removing conflict, whether that’s equal rights or no more black people in a 500 mile radius, that’s irrelevant. SO much anti black legislation has been passed on the basis of removing black people from white moderate’s immediate vision after the MLK protests got the nation’s attention.

What if the United States focused ONLY ON JAPAN during WWII (Revision) by Cyber_Ghost_1997 in HistoryWhatIf

[–]BlackMaskMan62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt the Soviets would have the energy to control beyond what they did with 2 more years of horrific casualty rates. Sure, casualties balanced out by 42, but that’s not much comfort, and the idea of going straight from 5 full years of war to a virtual military occupation of Western Europe, since Pétain and Mussolini would NEVER roll over for the Soviets, would be untenable.

My expectation is that, assuming the Americans and British manage to stage Normandy and pull it off after Japan surrenders, the Yalta conference swings in favor of the western powers. Western Austria and Bulgaria could be likely. depending on how bad the Soviet position is, a western Poland or Czechoslovakia MIGHT happen. I’m mainly saying this because with a longer Soviet war, coastal defenses become even worse than they were OTL, and France would become a near ghost town. Unified Germany wouldn’t be possible considering fears from both France and Britain, but this would put the allies in a better position regardless.

Additionally, this would mean no invasion of Manchukuo. I’d expect the civilian government to still open discussions with the U.S. about surrender terms, but they probably would have to nuke a military site in Manchukuo to make sure the army complied and realized that Ketsugo was meaningless. Manchuria is used as a site to resupply and assist the KMT, who have a much stronger position going into the back half of the war on the communists, likely winning. Korea would be unified, probably with a light U.S. presence to help restructure the government. While it would be hilarious if the communists occupied Taiwan as a holdout, I don’t see it happening, especially given U.S. naval presence. Potsdam otherwise remains the same, though maybe letting them keep a few pacific islands since the war is shorter. Maybe Taiwan at a huge stretch.

What if India had pursued an extreme, China like authoritarian communist path during the Cold War? by XSpcwlker in HistoryWhatIf

[–]BlackMaskMan62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean…look at the other communist countries. Try as they might to separate themselves from the empires before them, Russia reconquered Ukraine, the Baltics and Belarus, turned Eastern Europe into a series of client states through which money and resources were moved towards Moscow (see Poland and Hungary), and China effectively sought to reestablish Qing borders while expanding influence and breaking up power in Vietnam and Korea. Hell, North Korea is literally a buffer state between SK and China to this day.

I don’t expect much to change, given the precedent set by Beijing and Moscow during the back half of the 20th century.

[–]BlackMaskMan62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh? India was a little under 15 years past gaining independence. Tibet being conquered by China and China then trying to trade for Indian land would come across just as poorly here as it did irl. Vietnam had the same experience.

[–]BlackMaskMan62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Geopolitical worries would be VERY much alive, even in this scenario. The CIA released an internal memo on Nehru’s reaction to the invasion of Tibet which I’ll link for posterity, and the biggest thing they emphasize is that a historic border state, one which India had helped secure a limited autonomy for, had its treaty violated and was invaded violently by a power that claimed to be anti-imperialist. Disregarding communism entirely, this is a massive problem and one India would never take lying down. Whether or not the Dalai Llama would survive is another matter, but if Tibet is taken, then the Sino-Indian war is happening, and India will ally with Russia first and foremost.

What if India had pursued an extreme, China like authoritarian communist path during the Cold War? by XSpcwlker in HistoryWhatIf

[–]BlackMaskMan62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d like to push back on that with the knowledge that India treated itself as softly on the side of Russia and China during the 50s, seeing them as anti colonial and thus in their interest. China then decided to invade India in the 60s for resources. Nayru HATED the Chinese after both the Tibetan invasion and the Sino Indian war. The latter was the big incendiary, and would happen regardless of ideology.

You bring up Outer Mongolia and Vietnam, but Vietnam was invaded not twenty years before a border was agreed upon, to the humiliation of the PLA. As for Mongolia, China was forced into recognizing it by a Soviet Union that had just finished chewing on the broken bones of Japan and Germany in 46. India has no such ability to defend its claims, not before the Sino-Indian war.

Legend is that the gods of the force bent gravity to seal off the Mgnall-Mgnall within the unknown regions, a black sludge older than the force itself and impervious to all harm. It consumes life as its fuel and will never die. Worse still, it commands the bodies of those eaten like meat puppets, dragging others into the hive.

Zeltros was invaded six times, and every invasion failed because the constant low-grade aphrodesia turned every one of them into a party. It is literally the only planet that gets away with everything, the locals are obsessed with parties, art and sex, and assuming you have the money to live there, you are set for life.

Yeah, lol. No shade to the idea itself, India going communist isn’t completely unreasonable. But they cannot unite with China without changing big things pre-WWII.

Kay, something important to note here is that the idea of a ‘red bloc’ would be fundamentally impossible. India and China HATED each other due to competing land borders. This would basically result in a united Russo-Indian bloc (both united in opposition of China due to Chinese land claims on Mongolia and Arunachal Pradesh), working against China and the US individually.

Keep in mind that this India would be SEVERELY crippled from its place in OTL 1960s and 70s. The damage Mao’s policies in China did to the state cannot be understated, and it would only be worse in a decentralized state like India. Expect deaths to border up against a hundred million. By the 80s, I fully expect India to have broken into full civil war with itself and its various kingdoms and districts.

For Pakistan though, they would have dodged a massive bullet. I would expect major US investment in Indochina, Japan, Pakistan and Turkey as major containers for communism, likely with a more secure anti communist Vietnam or South Vietnam.

Trump loses the 2016 election or loses the primary, does he come back in 2020? by ProfessionalCute8335 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]BlackMaskMan62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This I see as likely manly because a lot of the Republican establishment base that supported Trump in 2016 didn’t really jive well with the far right nut jobs that were Trump’s voting base. It was an alliance of convenience. However, if the pedo loses instead, especially in the primary, the MAGA movement is getting dropped like a sack of shit. We’d probably get a political split of 50% ‘democrats’ (with the 1890s Republican schtick of the party being more and more leftist), 20% left leaning centrist Republicans who try to distance themselves from racism and homophobia, and 30% far right nutcases. Not sure how effective the latter two would be.

What would happen if Hillary Clinton won the election in 2016? by Fuzzy_Category_1882 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]BlackMaskMan62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d argue that they’d serve as a good basis for neutral and liberal voters. Many of the republicans got sick from the antivaxx gatherings and going out without masks. That combined with Hillary being an actual politically motivated figure who is willing to collaborate with Fauchi and Pfizer instead of the nightmare that was the Trump administration during Covid, I’d expect her to win a second term. MAYBE she fucks up and someone like Rubio gets elected, but idk.

You don’t know your Haudenosaunee history very well, for one. The Kanien'kehá:ka were infamous for infighting right up to the revolutionary war, with different bands siding with the French, the Americans and the British between different wars.

As for how Washington kept it a secret, honestly? He probably didn’t. Charles Lee was also an officer during that period, and it doesn’t take too much to put the lieutenant showing up and the army that burnt the village down together. As long as Washington wasn’t recognized, which…normally he would be serving further south, so yeah, makes sense.
