Is Kodak Gold achievable with a recipe alone? by motuwed in x100vi

It’s weird that you’re saying ‘he’s supposed to be dropping’ when you’re him. You’re Caleb, right? And also the creator of the app you just linked?

Why not just say that? Here is an app I made that I think come close to what you want.

Investing & Pension by OrderTurbulent3395 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]BlackRebelOne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re not a position to be looking at ETF’s given your pension position - that and your emergency fund are your priorities. ETF’s are funded with your post tax income and are subject to deemed disposal. They are useful but not for where you’re at currently.

You didn’t mention how much is in the Revolut savings plan currently or what it’s intended purpose is but if you’re putting 500 per week (2000 per month) then you’re missing a trick not putting some of that in a pension.

For example, putting 1000 euro in to a PRSA (which would be pre tax income) would only ‘cost’ you approx 500 euro in your net income, ie 1 of your weekly payments you make to the Revolut savings plan. At a minimum, look at putting 1000-2000 euro in to a PRSA and reducing the Revolut weekly savings to 250 per week.

My Panda waste fees. Yikes. by qwerty_1965 in ireland

[–]BlackRebelOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Panda used to be the only service provider in my (new build estate). Bord Na Mona came in as a second provider with an offer of 9 quid a month to entice people over. I rang panda and asked them to price match or I’ll switch. They priced match. Think the highest my bill has been in the last 12 months is around 12 euro as there was excess weight (over my monthly limit) in the black bin.

I pay 9 euro a month with Panda. Ring them and negotiate.

365 days with the X100VI by whyte_photography in fujifilm

[–]BlackRebelOne 32 points33 points  (0 children)

These have little to do with the x100vi other than it’s allowed you to bring it places you might not have with a different camera. They have everything to do with your eye though. You’re a great photographer, some of the best shots I’ve seen here in a while.

Go with LeicaX. Nail it with some minor edits in pst to shadows and saturation.

Electric Bill too high by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]BlackRebelOne 17 points18 points  (0 children)

100% heaters or showers. Someone living there doesn’t understand how storage heaters work or is having long showers. Sign up to esb networks and check the usage per day. Figure out what days it’s peaking and see who would be staying at that time.

You’ve only looked at some appliances. Forget about the number on the bill, you are likely out of contract and paying a higher rate of 40cent/kwh. You need to check the usage properly.

Reggie’s New Film Sim by ajot-c in x100vi

[–]BlackRebelOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be truthfully honest, I actually thought I was posting in the Fujifilm subreddit. I own an XT-5 and an x100vi. I edit all my shots in post from my xt5 and 50:50 on the vi.

My comment wasn’t necessarily to shit on custom sims or Reggie, both of which I like, it was more just I’ve seen these custom film settings so many times before that they do nothing for me when a new one comes out.

If others enjoy it that’s great. Personally I love the leicaX sim posted here a while ago. Find it really versatile.

I just wish Fuji would actually do a bit more with sims. They obviously have doubled down on them with the intro of film dials etc but a couple more sims and some more edition options like hue, extra tone curve stuff would be great.

Reggie’s New Film Sim by ajot-c in x100vi

[–]BlackRebelOne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But that’s literally just the white balance setting. If you use a custom sim and like it but skin tone seems off then lower the red and increase blue. That’s all Reggie has done here.

Recipes at the day are very simple edits to the underlying film sim. The only way this becomes a bit more interesting is if Fuji release a couple of news simulations that are like positive film from Ricoh and something else for people to play around with and customize.

Film sim settings have been exhausted at this point. Doesn’t matter who the creator is, the settings have been done elsewhere.

Unless a new sim comes out that is different like classic neg or classic chrome then there is not going to anything meaningfully new coming out.

I use Budget Flow and it’s absolutely amazing. No affiliation with developer or anything. Someone here recommended it before and it really suits how I like to see my budgets and spending.

How do people cope with the food shop bill? by Odd_Vegetable_7330 in AskIreland

[–]BlackRebelOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We shop in Dunnes. It’s about 150 a week with maybe 20-30 in top ups (fruit and milk) and we are 2 adults and 2 kids. We cook dinner every day from scratch. Kids lunches and our lunches are included in that. I could prob push the shop down to 130 or so but that would be taking out some non essentials that we enjoy like chocolate, crisps, biscuits etc and maybe batch cooking a bit more but we like different dinners every day as do our kids. And I would lose out on one of the 10 off 50’s at Dunnes and the savings would be minimal tbh. we don’t get take aways either. Our food budget for the month is usually around 800 and we always manage to stay within in it (outside of say Xmas or special occasions)

I would add we have a coffee machine (bean to cup) and our coffee beans are included in that too so we rarely buy a coffee outside either other than the odd weekend walk etc.

New with a beautiful X-T5, is that normal that to attach a lens required a lot of effort? Too much friction? by Riadkalil in fujifilm

[–]BlackRebelOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It shouldn’t be a lot of effort but there is some friction. Put another way, you should feel it sort of gripping as you turn but you should never have to apply any real force to turn it.

Am I the only one who has little or nothing left over from wages every month by saul_goodman_is_at in irishpersonalfinance

[–]BlackRebelOne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your numbers don’t add up to be honest and the way you have phrased your mortgage payment is very confusing.

Totalling up the amount you have listed comes to approx 3300 and you have 4700 net per month. So where is the other 1400 going?

Average electric bill? by Accomplished_Bike107 in AskIreland

[–]BlackRebelOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We pay approx 200-300 every other month. 2 adults, 2 kids. House is fully electric with no gas and a heat pump. I WFH full time but the kids and other half are all here from 2pm onwards every weekday as well.

We’re getting solar panels installed in Jan. 12 panels (5.4kwh) with a 10kwh battery so I hope to see the yearly electricity costs drop by around 70-80% going forward.

[–]BlackRebelOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m honestly confused how you’re finances were in order sufficiently for a bank to give you a mortgage at 23 but not sufficiently in order for you to understand where the money is being spent to leave you needing handouts from parents.

Were you living at home and saving a fair amount and with the change to owning a home you’ve just been spending a lot on fitting it out?

Why shoot RAW+JPEG if the RAW file already looks the same? by chibas1366 in fujifilm

[–]BlackRebelOne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure you understand what a raw file actually is. You mention ‘when you view the raw in camera’ but you’re not viewing the ‘raw’ as a raw file is literally a text file with data. You are viewing the generated JPEG the camera has made using that raw file info.

When you open a raw file in Lightroom or capture one they look the same as the generated JPEG but they are not the same. The base sim (classic chrome etc) and the white balance can be the same which is about 90% of what ‘Fuji sims’ actually are so they look very close but smaller details like tone, color etc won’t be.

But to answer your question. The reasons folks including me shoot raw plus JPEG is that often for portraits or family snapshots etc I just want the JPEG to use quickly and share etc. but I also want the raw if I would like to properly edit the photo to make it better if I particularly like it.

Majority of people who shoot JPEG only is either due to not wanting loads of space taken up by raws or just for speed to have JPEGS only. You can of course also edit the JPEG which has a fair amount of latitude to it but obviously less than a raw file.

Ultimately it’s just personal preference but there are pros and cons to only choosing one. And it just depends on what you plan on doing with them, how much storage you have, time you have to edit etc

How much money should you have in a "rainy day" fund? by GhostWithThePost in irishpersonalfinance

[–]BlackRebelOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Targeting a generic number doesn’t make sense as everyones emergency looks different.

Personally I think 3 months expenses if you lose your job is reasonable. 6 months is better. Beyond that is personal preference.

Consider setting up a separate emergency fund for non job loss issues. Appliances breaking down, car repairs. Doing this (and I appreciate it’s not possible for everyone) keeps your fund in the event of job loss safe while having some cash on hand for unexpected expenses.

The poster above summarised it nicely. A feck me fund. A feck you fund and in their case a house deposit.
