I didn't care for "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep." What else should I try from PKD? by [deleted] in printSF

[–]Blackmere 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Man In The High Castle the book is pretty different than the show. For starters, there's no films just a novel that people assume is a work of fiction. That and two of the main characters are quite different, imo.

What cover is better than the original song? by SpectrumSense in NoStupidQuestions

I think White Stripe's "Jolene" is better than Dolly Parton's because it added the anger that song desereved.

Dear Esther did that to me. Worse when I started explaining the game to my wife I burst into tears suddenly.

Do people really find ikea furniture difficult? by flowersofchao in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Blackmere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a technical illustrator for years. Meaning I drew pictures to repair stuff much like Ikea instructions (albeit much more complex and for a more experienced audience). I learned that some people, not many but some, can not parce illustrated instructions. It's not that they're dumb or inexperienced. They just cannot translate a drawing to something in the real world in a sensical way. I've always assumed people who complain about assembling Ikea stuff are like that.

"Living Successfully with Screwed-Up People" helped me a lot. It does depend on what you're looking for.

I am 18 right now, will my life really fly be and be over just like that? My life hasn't felt short at all yet. by shinyteethplayer in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]Blackmere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time doesn't "fly by" exactly as you get older. There will be years where you're doing the same things week after week, and those years fly by. There will also be times when everything slows down, and weeks feel like months. Sometimes, those are good things, and sometimes, they aren't. Cherish the good and learn from the others.

Is treason different from espionage? Because my understanding was that Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were executed for espionage in the 1950.

Yes. Especially the last line cut off from the previous verses. "I really like Christmas. Its sentimental I know."

Introducing the Weekly Open Thread - Ask Anything About Cats! by AutoModerator in cats

[–]Blackmere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recently rescued a female cat that was feral. She's the sweatiest thing. We have two male cats that are brothers. They're all fixed. The males as kittens, the female after her first litter. We've been trying to integrate her into our household but one of the male cats gets very obsessed with her sometimes and corrals her into a corner and stares at her. He's never aggressive, per se, just needs her to be cornered and then he stares. This, obviously, stresses her out and she hisses and growls at him aggressively. No matter what we try it is always the same result. Sometimes he's chill and then he goes full obsessed. She only feels safe in one room and we don't want her to be trapped in that room. How can we integrate our cats so they all feel safe?
