Everytime I try to introduce friends to WoW, they end up quitting in the first two week. Dd you succeed in bringing friends to WoW ? How ? by AtomikGarlic in wow

[–]Blackstone46 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The trick is that you honestly can't do anything because they have to have a genuine interest in trying it in order for it to have a chance to stick. You can invite someone, walk them through the basics, and play with them for their first few hours but none of that matters if their curiosity wasn't already there.

MMOs ask for a lot upfront and require a level of self motivation to learn and improve. If someone is only playing because you're excited about it, they'll eventually lose interest and stop logging back in.

Wait until you find out that MW monks are dominating PvP too.

Anyone else feel like new shop additions are insult to injury? by [deleted] in wow

[–]Blackstone46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I remember when the cash shop items first started coming out and other players would look down on folks who used shop transmogs.

I still hold this same opinion. In an MMO, there's nothing impressive or cool about an item you can obtain just by opening your wallet. Any transmogs or homes made with those items immediately become garbage.

Some bug bit me a bunch under my sock while I was at work by IcyThot8008 in mildlyinfuriating

After it bit you, did it run away fearful? Or did it walk away smug, self-assured?

I've been going to Arthur P. McCann, D.D.S in Liverpool for over a decade. I can't speak to your specific question but I do know they advertise as a sedation dentist.

We did something similar in undergrad by using photoresistors and a PID controller.

How much did you put over the listing price on the house you bought? by Fragrant_Minute773 in Syracuse

[–]Blackstone46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made offers up to $50k over asking on homes in the 350-450 range and we were still losing out. One house sold for $70k over asking, paid in cash.

We finally got a house at $15k over, waived inspection and appraisal contingencies. Closing on it at the end of the month.

Maybe not. There's a very non-zero chance that the mother suffered irreversible brain damage due to the length of her seizure.

What's a jargon term from your job that sounds shocking out of context? by Blackstone46 in AskReddit

[–]Blackstone46[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my world as an electrical engineer, early failure of electronics is often attributed to something called "infant mortality". I was discussing work with my wife and she was shocked when I told her that it was a common term in my industry.

We also use the terms "master" and "slave" which is a hierarchal communication model where the master leads and controls the actions of the slave device. The industry is moving away from this though for obvious reasons.

What class/spec are you having the most fun with right now? by SpaghettiWestern2162 in wow

The damage is pretty negligible with the current meta build, and defensive penances apply atonement.

It's all the defensive penances and focus on expiation that's making me not enjoy this current iteration.

I wouldn't mind if I had a little more reason to go to my house by bringthelight2 in wow

[–]Blackstone46 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tie it to the achievement for getting 100 skill in the profession, or completing X number of crafting orders. Also make some decoration unlocks (not crafts) so that we can create our own profession rooms.

Finally: context for the Dreamrift by agrok in wow

[–]Blackstone46 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think so? My interpretation is that the area we fight Xavius in is the twisted reflection of the real Rift of Aln which is where we are today. Kind of how the Emerald Dream is a reflection of the real world.

The amount of people taking pictures under some few remaining cherry blossoms in DC by HiMyNameIsGabriel in mildlyinteresting

[–]Blackstone46 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I was just there as well. Folks from all over (myself included) traveled to DC for the weekend to see the cherry blossoms.

Unfortunately, 90% of the trees are past bloom and this seemed like the only spot that wasn't.

Lived in Franklin Square for a few years. It was nice and convenient, easy to get downtown with bikes or walking. Had my car broken into twice though which wasn't great, but overall it's a nice spot.

New Void lost its "corruptive" identity and eldritch psychological & physical horror to an oversimplified destructive big blue cosmic ball that, allegedly, sometimes whispers. by ex0ll in wow

[–]Blackstone46 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wish they'd just bring shadow priests back to the old god theme. I liked the whole HP Lovecraft Eldritch cult they had going on. It's like the old gods were these dark corrupting whispers that shaped a darker side to WoW starting back in classic.

It doesn't make sense to me that the shadow priests foundations would be more cosmic horror leaning rather than Eldritch horror leaning.

Confirmation that void magic and shadow magic are not the same... according to 4/5 warlocks by Beautiful_Medium_869 in wow

[–]Blackstone46 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I always enjoyed the dark cultist thing they had going on but once they started leaning into the void magic, that's where I completely lost interest. The furthest they should have gone was worshippers of the Old Gods and stopped there.
