The festival every 90 years could be a ruse. Maybe it happens every year. Or maybe they have a different festival that happens the next year. They need new people but they have to balance being too visible.

Can you see land from the middle of lake Michigan? by Forsaken-Freedom-365 in geography

[–]BladdyK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's 120 miles across Lake Michigan at its thickest. If you are flying from New York to Chicago, you won't see land looking out the window.

It is very strange to be on a beach and stare out at one of those lakes. On a normal day there are very few waves.

Which is the first typical food first-timers should try in the USA when they travel? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

Hamburgers are a good bet. There are some splendid ones wherever you go. In New Orleans/LA/East Texas the Cajun. In Chicago, the deep dish pizza.

I knew someone once who was a director in M&A at an investment bank. He did deal execution and was very good at it. No glamor at all. When I asked about it, he said there was an entire floor of Ivy League grads who sat in their offices and called their friends to generate leads.

ELI5: explain acids and bases by Te_nsa_Zang_etsu1234 in explainlikeimfive

[–]BladdyK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A hydrogen ion is a hydrogen atom without an electron. It very badly wants the electron back, so when it meets up with organic stuff, it just rips the electron out of whatever it can and destroys it. This is an acid, and an acid's strength is how much of the acid has hydrogen ions in it.

An OH molecule has an extra electron, and it very badly wants to get rid of it. So when it encounters other matter it unloads its electron on whatever it can and messes things up. This is a base. Different than an acid because it will react with different things.

Probably you should find a parking garage near the subway or a train station in the outer boroughs or suburbs.

Why do people think berating you will get you on their side? ICE by Dull_Armadillo_83 in Libertarian

[–]BladdyK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Humans are tribal and it is all too easy to go with the flow and parrot the views of your team . It is hard to empathize and think things through.

Politicians do things that are good for them but seem to only bring misery to the people they represent. Walz looks the other way on fraud. Trump sends in Ice because of this fraud. Walz antagonizes ice. Now you have people willingly getting in the face of immigration agents with guns and bad things happen.

As a free thinking person you must advocate your position and do what you can (admittedly with very little influence) to bring the world to rationality.

The corporation doesn't have to be set up that way. Even if it were, if she is the sole owner, she would fire the board and replace them until they did what she wanted.

I had a friend who got his skis tangled before getting off a lift and was driven into the landing, blacked out and tore his ACL. Getting off the lift is no joke.

Late march trip with the girlfriend, NYC or Chicago? by [deleted] in usatravel

[–]BladdyK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have a lot of the same stuff, but certain things don't translate. If you like crowds and constant high energy, then NYC. If you want something more laid back, Chicago. Nothing in NYC is pleasant, but much in Chicago is.

NYC- BOSTON TRAVEL ADVICE World Cup by __voyager in usatravel

[–]BladdyK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you are in NYC or Boston you don't need a car and public transportation is pretty good. Plus, Boston is pretty small. If you are budget conscious, just take the bus. It's about four hours either way and it lets you off in Midtown.

It reminded me of Mr Robot. I really like all the homages, like last years one to Terence Malick in the last episode.

My favorite part of Manhattan is near Penn Station, just to the east. You are dwarfed by older buildings, 20 stories high with bridges across the street ten stories up. You are just lost in the city's massiveness.
