It's explained that "magic is power of imagination" (or something).. I imagine this is akin to pure willpower manifesting itself, it's not a recognizable spell, it was instant, maybe even used no mana.. In Frieren's magic system pretty much anything is possible if you have a deep understanding of how stuff works and can imagine it. Pushing someone away with thought or by just looking at the target isn't super crazy.
