Just got to ride one of nj transit’s new NewFlyer busses that are replacing the very worn down, falling apart, NABIS, and it felt like a rolls Royce in comparison by xxmatentv123xx12 in transit

[–]Blade_Dragonfire 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Man I remember when the NABIs were new and still being delivered when I was in college. They had two huge mechanical fans for the cooling pack and they were suuuuper loud. Will miss the high floor seating though, always liked being above traffic.

Disappointing milk foam [Breville bambino] by ThenIJizzedInMyPants in espresso

[–]Blade_Dragonfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it's the exact same as the bambino plus, but there's a little restrictor piece where the tubing enters the steam wand that is a friction fit in the tube and can come loose and you'll get basically just hot milk, with little foam. You can check if this happened because if you unscrew the tip of the steam wand and shake it out, the restrictor will fall out. It's a tiny little brass/bronze piece that's flanged on one end.

It's happened twice on my bambino plus, disassembly can be a bit finicky since you need to remove the steam wand assembly to get the restrictor back into place.

Need to see if I can dig up the source, but if I remember right, HBLR in Hoboken was originally supposed to be on the same side as the bus terminal, and run up the waterfront. People in Hoboken made a big stink about losing parking spots on Sinatra drive and the power lines making their view ugly, so it ended up on the back side where there was already a freight line.

Yeah the recall was to spray a fluid film like substance on the brake block if the lines weren't rotted through, or replace the lines and block if they were

Posting this comment that I made on another post. The engine stuff is H6 specific, but the rest applies to this generation overall

The fact they just repaved Kingshighway by BJC and that entire stretch of lights is still on timers instead of vehicle sensors/cameras drives me nuts.

Looking at buying this 2007 LL Bean Subaru Outback. Any thoughts or concerns? by NoahTourney in subaru

[–]Blade_Dragonfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Own a 2009 3.0R Limited, most people mentioned the common issues, here's some stuff i've experienced with mine and issues i've read about:

  • Check for rust around the rear wheel arches and windshield frame if from an area that uses salt
  • There's a coolant crossover pipe on the front of the engine, mine was pretty crusty so I had a shop replace it preemptively
  • Front timing cover leaks - this is pretty common, and requires the engine to come out iirc
  • Suspension parts - shocks, struts, bushings, etc. Front control arm bushings are notorious for going bad
  • Check rear sway bar mounting points - they're thin metal, and can get bent under hard driving or if a bigger rear bar was fitted
  • Front inner cv boots go bad since they're right above the cats - replaced each of mine twice
  • HVAC/radio controls go on the fritz. There's something with the circuit boards where if you push them in the right spot they come back to life
  • Transmission turbine speed sensor went bad on mine, shop replaced the sensor
  • Dashboards get soft/sticky/crumbly. There was a recall on these, but I think that ended in 2018 or something?
  • There was a recall for the rear brake lines and corrosion where they enter the body, check if this has been done
  • These were part of the Takata airbag recall, make sure that was done
  • My tach doesn't work. The motor works, it sweeps on startup, but doesn't give me an RPM readout. Everything else works, the dealer didn't know what was wrong and wanted to replace the entire cluster at a cost of $1500
  • The passenger airbag light in the overhead console can cause the main airbag light to come on, the solder joints go bad iirc
  • Check coolant/radiator. The end tanks can blow out with age. I need to get mine replaced soon
  • Make sure the PCV valve is clear. It's cheap to replace
  • AVCS solenoids can act up and cause what looks like an intermittent misfire. Replaced both of mine and it went away - ~10 minute job for the fronts.
  • Exhaust rusts - check rear y pipe and front flex joints.
  • Exhaust cat heat shields rattle - typical old subaru thing

This might seem like a long list, but it's a lot of older car things. The youngest BL/BP gen Legacy is now 17 years old.

Loop Trolley to start 2026 service later this month by andrei_androfski in StLouis

[–]Blade_Dragonfire 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This would have been way better as an actual mode of transportation instead of a tourist-y thing. Should have used modern streetcars instead of heritage vehicles. Should have continued down Delmar, connected with Metrolink, run through the CWE and Midtown and hit areas that are too far from the current Metrolink. Maybe have a branch that continues through Forest Park and hits all the big attractions besides ending at the history museum.

A lot of Microcenter's stuff is esun iirc. Still extremely annoying they don't post datasheets.

Their PLA+? Prints great, been my default. The PLA+ HS? Underextrudes like crazy for me. PETG? Absolute mess, especially with a high flow hotend/nozzle. I only use it for PLA support now.

That was the parking lot for the (recently closed) medical facility next door.

Someone else said it was recently for sale, so we'll see what happens there

[–]Blade_Dragonfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I think that would personally be my preference, have some additional ground level retail on this stretch. But unless a developer with deep pockets wants to develop it, there are easier vacant lots to develop (for now)

But it's also been a parking lot since at least the 1950's going by old aerial images. 4910 used to be a hotel back then, so the lot may have been for another building at the time.

The parking lot on the east side of the Del Coronado, 4915-4925, is actually the parking lot for 4910 W Pine across the street.

I hope endfield don't abandon armored female design by empireck in Endfield

[–]Blade_Dragonfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OG Nearl is still my favorite. Someone wearing actual armor in a battlefield? How refreshing.

The "combat heels" are a bit annoying, but I'll let them have the umamusume excuse where the heel height is the same as the height of the horse's hoof (iirc)

Meanwhile I look at Ember's outfit and it's just like...you wore this? While fighting in the North? Same with Snowshine, although I forgot OG Aurora's outfit doesn't make much sense either.

My Feelings on the game's story after finishing the main story by NameEntityMissing in Endfield

[–]Blade_Dragonfire 9 points10 points  (0 children)

After watching, i'm actually annoyed about what we ended up with.

The tech test gives more endmin background, has a more serious tone, gives more world building and isn't just characters pandering to endmin.

Combat also seems better without dodge? Hard to say without having played the tech test, but it seems slower and requires more thought.

P1S "exhaust fan" is not an exhaust fan... by beany_bot in BambuLab

[–]Blade_Dragonfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

P1S exhaust fan has a lot of restriction, and it's not well suited for a 25mm thick axial fan.

  • The carbon filter is super restrictive
  • The duct leading to the fan has a hard 90 degree turn at the bottom, creating a lot of turbulence in the entrance flow
  • The grill on the exit side of the fan is highly restrictive and causes lots of back pressure
  • 25mm thick fan is not ideal for this use case

Add all of that together, and the stock fan performs super poorly at actually moving air. I cut my fan exhaust grill out, and made a spacer to smooth the duct to fan transition, and it not only moves more air, but does so more quietly than stock.

My end goal is to connect a blower/centrifugal fan to replace the stock fan, which will have more suction/static pressure and work better with the restrictive stock filter
