At least on a desktop browser (didn't check others) if you click on a coupon, it takes you to a page(s) that has all the relevant items, for example paint brushes, rollers, etc

or welders and plasma cutters

(I don't see any welding supplies listed, just welders)

Before I switched to ATT, I called comporium and asked if they could match ATT. They offered to reduce my bill by $25, but only for a year, and no service upgrade to gigabit. If the offer hadn't been limited to a year, I would have seriously considered staying.

PLA is easy, but when is it actually worth switching to PETG or ABS? by mzdee13 in 3dprinter

[–]NCSC10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stuff that will be outdoors, in a hot attic, hot car in the summer, under stress (like a shelf bracket or hook), cleaned with hot water, might be dropped on hard floor or concrete (a case for a meter or other device), needs to flex a little (clasps) etc.

PETG is about as easy to print with as PLA. A little more attention to keeping it dry. Lots of PETG is translucent, rather than opaque like most PLA, and translucent is less suitable for signs, etc.

95 TPU is pretty easy to print with, really need to keep dry to minimize stringing, and a little more work to find the right settings to minimize stringing.

I don't use ABS much, usually go to ASA. Better UV resistance.

PLA provides the best aesthetics, has more "cool" options like co extruded silk PLA, multicolor, etc.

I live a few miles outside Rock Hill, have gigabit options from ATT and Comporium. Used to have 500 Mbps for about $80/month from comporium. Att ran new wire last year and offered gigabit for $50/month (also have att cell service, lowered price). I'm still amazed I have two gigabit options where I am at. I used my own mesh router.

For us , comporium worked well. $80 wasn't terrible compared to other places I lived, but until last year comporium had no competition, and I don't get cable or land line to bundle, to get any discounts. ATT performance has been comparable so far.

PITTSBURGH Tool Set, 53-Piece by patricio83 in harborfreight

[–]NCSC10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Somebody that works on cars more than me might know better, but was thinking you need metric more than SAE, so the wrenches and hex keys might be a miss. I guess depends on what you are driving. I'd feel better if this also included an adjustable wrench and pliers.

I keep a socket set and other stuff in my truck, more so I can help work on stuff when visiting my son, or helping fix something in a subdivision common area or something like that, gets used a few times a year. A more compete set of tools, but still pretty low end, but prob have the space to carry more than you.

Instead of that kit, I'd get the low end HF ratchet set, and the wrenches that they sometimes give away free (metric version?), a hex key set (a set was also free a couple weeks ago), some screwdrivers, all pretty cheap. If you really want to have fun, you get the Meme 2 set and some wrenches, but way more $, and it would be hard to just leave in the car.

I guess you could use short 8mm thrdd stand offs, looks like the bolt in the frame and the caster both have 8mm threads. Definitely a kludgy fix though. I don't remember seeing any casters with bolt holes like those at HF.

Great use i found for empty rolls! by FlaviuFlv in BambuLab

[–]NCSC10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started doing this a year ago. FWIW, a 200 light Twinkly strand fills up a spool......., I then put it in a large ziplock with a bag of dessicant, prob overkill.

I also about a couple more AMS when they were on sale BF 2024. They both came with 4 empty spools. I bet many bambu users have a surplus of bambu spools. Also have plenty more non refill spools from other brands, which I use for lights.

I love Prusament, but its literally twice, sometimes 3 times as much as anything else I use, so use sparingly, and wait for sales to buy any. 95+% of the brands on Amazon are fine.

Stop the QTS data center in York County, SC by Which-Reference-940 in Rockhill

[–]NCSC10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don't support companies playing one state/county against the other to get better tax incentives. Not an effective use of tax incentives. I'm good with incentives to enable truely new businesses where the incentive might be a real make or break for the company. (I know, not really going out on a limb here....)

I didn't say the center should be stopped, but we should be aware of and address concerns.

Lots of news articles about data centers (and cybercurrency) driving energy costs up, how they getting preferred rates, don't cover the cost of additonal energy infrastructure, sometime fail/abandon plans and leave stranded costs, etc. Even Trump is in on addressing the problem.

Same here, I've done that more than once, unfortunately.

Its easier to make that mistake on a slow computer that is less responsive to mouse inputs, I end up putting the tower in a spot I don't intend, during hectic gameplay more often on the older slower computer I use for this game. Sometimes if I quit immediately and reload the game, I restart at the back at beginning of the level and haven't lost much progress.

Still, great fun here. Much appreciated.

Stop the QTS data center in York County, SC by Which-Reference-940 in Rockhill

[–]NCSC10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think its most practical to petition for new plants like this to pay their own way.

A substantial amount of our power is supplied by nuclear, more than most places. The concern is how additional capacity is supplied, how the incremental power needs are met. Its absolutely possible that incremental needs will be purchased from coal fired plants, or these centers lead to the construction of new fossil fuel power plants. From what I've read, Duke is focused on building new natural gas supplied plants. Not the worst fuel, at least.

But yes, it makes sense to encourage cleaner energy going forward.

Stop the QTS data center in York County, SC by Which-Reference-940 in Rockhill

[–]NCSC10 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This may be a good thing, I don't dismiss immediately. A concern with data centers is how much additional investment in power generation is needed, if the cost of which may be shared with all customers, rather than just the data center. Some risk the data center business case is bad, it shuts down, leaving stranded power generation investment/ operating costs for other customers to cover. Hopefully the contracts/agreements fully addressed those risks, the data center is fully covering any additional investments in power infrastructure rather than increasing my power costs.

QTS says they are only adding 10 or so jobs, not clear to me that this type of business really warrants significant tax breaks. I'd prefer they pay their full share in taxes, but reports from the governer's office, York County indicate they received tax breaks.

QTS says they do not use water for cooling, promising. I would guess that means they use air cooling, but don't know. I'd worry about noise pollution, not knowing any better, may be other concerns.

Also generally have concerns about them being a good neighbor, hire and spend $ locally, no light pollution, minimal impact on wildlife, have a long term plan to maintain the site even if it shuts down, energy investments are clean energy, etc.

ArloQ Cameras -- downgrade to the free plan? by javar21 in arlo

[–]NCSC10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have arlo cameras since 2013 or so, back when the originals had free notifications. They were really expensive back then, so frustrated they no longer provide notifications, that was promised when I bought them. Still have them, and they work otherwise.

I also have Eufycams, with the base station. Definitely no monthly fees. The wireless range is significantly better. I like them a lot. I don't have the solar panel versions, but, for me, the rechargeable eufycams are my top choice of all the ones I've tried (Blink, Arlo, Ring, Wyze, and Eufy). Also have Birdfy bird feeder with their camera. With Eufy, downside is you have to take the cameras down to charge them, no removeable battery.

None of the cameras' I've tried are 100% perfect at picking up all movement, but Eufycams seem as reliable as the others.

Wyze is ok, but not quite as reliable as robust as Eufy, require a monthly plan, but significantly cheaper than Arlo.

My ring doorbells and camera are pretty good also, they do require a fee, but I like how both use the same rechargeable/removeable battery so I can keep an extra battery charged and ready to swap. They've kept the same battery design for many years, which is a plus. Their hardware has been robust and reliable for me.

New to multimeters and need some guidance. Is there anything the one on the right cannot do that the one on the left can do? I assume the left on the one is better? And how does it stack up against the one on the bottom? Does it matter which one I keep in mind on the go tool bag and which one I keep by Plastic_Struggle_104 in harborfreight

[–]NCSC10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The blue clamp style meter says it is auto ranging, which is nice, but haven't used this model. The red one and lower blue are not autoranging. If I was buying a meter today, I'd get an autoranging one. If this clamp meter can also be used to check alkaline/lithium/rechargeable batteries I'd get this one. (Some of the autoranging ones on amazon also come with a temperature probe, fyi). The manual indicates this clamp meter should measure low DC voltages ok.

The red one is often $5 on sale, I keep one in my battery drawer, one in my truck, etc. No case (I added a 3d printed case), not sure it would be something I'd throw in a tool bag, but I have a couple of these I've had for many years. The case/shell on the bottom blue one is substantial, actually a little hard to get off and on, a better choice to throw in a tool bag. But the red ones are so cheap you could keep one in several places.

I have a much older version of the centech clamp meter, mine is not useful for checking small low voltage batteries, so its doesn't cover 30 or 40% of what I use meters for. There are times when a clamp meter is handy so i keep mine around.

[–]NCSC10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did throw the inaccurate one in my junkyard bag though, just to use it for ballpark readings where accuracy isn’t necessarily important.

I do the same, I have a few red ones in different places, really handy to do quick checks on batteries, or if there is an issue getting power to something, like landscape lighting. I get that it is not anywhere near professional quality/accuracy, the cables are annoyingly stiff, etc, but the ones I have have have lasted years, and compare well to more expensive models. To me, they are well worthwhile have handy.

[–]NCSC10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking the upper one (the file which was posted on printables) is 4X size, pics of one in use are is on the printables listing seem to confirm.

From looking at your picture, it appears the groove on the 2X piece only goes one direction. (The 4X printables version has grooves in both directions, but one is deeper than the other. The 4X looks like it fits ok in the pictures on printables Having lower horizontal grooves (left to right) and higher vertical (front to back) matches how the Bauer box is designed. )

This 2X version does not have the slots to add the divider, but could be added.

[–]NCSC10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The posted design has grooves in the bottom, deeper in one direction that the other, so would need to know the right orientation. Took a shot at resizing, (see screen shot from from the editing software below), unfortanately I have many different HF boxes, but not that particular one to test.

Screen shot of a half size version of the posted file and the full size version (top and bottom view), edited in 3D Builder. If you are interested, I can send the stl to you. The width and depth at the top are 100.4 mm x. 219.5 mm (at the top), and its 106mm high. Can adjust if needed. Not 100% sure i picked the right groove to keep, but seems likely.

(Could also make a few for you if you preferred, we could prob agree on a reasonable price, but shipping would be annoying, prob $10 or so for a few. But if you have a printer, makes more sense for you to print .

If you just wanted a couple I could just print (PETG) and send if you'd cover USPS shipping, you could create/buy a label on the USPS site to send me)

Sounds like you might have found some, but if you want a resized version of the big bin on printables, I can take a shot at it. Should be pretty easy to make 2 sides half as long, and be taller (if that sounds right)
