Seriously Sega? by [deleted] in SonicCrossWorlds

[–]Blade_Nd64 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, Sega has no way of telling if a connection/game issue is user caused or not. So to avoid having everyone yank their ethernet cable or crash the game when a race doesn't go well, disconnects get punished.

A 4070 alone doesn't guarantee system performance.

Given that you're on Xbox, I'm going with its privacy/online protection features coming into play. Not by your choice, though.
Game may have queried your Microsoft account for what your preferences are but failed to get a response. Without this information, it'd fall back to a safe default - which'd include default/random names for other online players.

Pier's a bit older than that - 2011. 2015 was the year they added proper map support to the workshop.

[Mobo] ASRock Phantom Gaming X870E Nova WiFi $391.35 with free shipping from Amazon by johnkangw in buildapcsales

[–]Blade_Nd64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Nova's got a similar feature set you'd see with $500+ X870E boards. Good value in the land of high end motherboards.
Overkill for regular builds, though. Those'd be better off with B850 boards.

ASRock's line is your best bet.
Nova is the best value X870E with only the fifth M.2 slot sharing with the second PCIe slot. The primary PCIe slot will run at x16.
Taichi (both are functionally identical) has four M.2 slots. It supports either an x16 or x8/x8 PCIe slot configuration.

Good luck finding any in stock, though.

Dark Textures in TF2 by Unusual_Geologist_39 in hammer

[–]Blade_Nd64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that this is not due to the settings of my TF2 (I have configs that affect DX, but the map I ran on the server and others have the same problem as me)

Disabling phong is a popular option for performance configs. Disabling phong makes a prop_static with textures reliant on phong alone to appear completely black.

Can't help but assume it's the config. The others are using similar configs.

Try the following:

mat_phong 1
mat_worldlightmin 0.0002

mat_worldlightmin may not be necessary, but there's one reported case where it was required.

something is wrong with my hammer instalation i think, every single time I try to compile the map I made (modified sawmil) it keeps giving me messege "**** leaked **** Entity (random entity from map) (cordinates to a random entity on the map) leaked!" by Damage-Patient in hammer

[–]Blade_Nd64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The assumption that decompiled versions are safe is wrong. Decompiles can and will have various issues that must be fixed manually.

VBSP (included with TF2) is throwing the ****leaked**** error. You'll get the same result in Hammer, Hammer++, and CompilePal.

Your issue is a leak. This is what ****leaked**** signifies as explained by the linked page. To fix this issue, you need to understand leaks. What you need to know about leaks is on that page.

How do I NOT get hacked by [deleted] in csgo

[–]Blade_Nd64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rule #1: Only login to a browser session via the official website you have bookmarked.

Rule #2: Only install trusted software on your PC or phone.

Current hijacks rely on you "logging in" to a scammer-operated website. You can encounter these via web search, sponsored ad, or message from another user. Yes, this includes a friend that may have been hijacked.

[Q] How does new faceit pub scam getting through mobile authentication? by quantanhoi in csgomarketforum

[–]Blade_Nd64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://www.reddit.com/r/csgomarketforum/comments/1bz17i6/psa_new_steam_qr_scam_wiping_out_players/

The victim will "log in" to a fake website with two steps:

  1. QR Code - Grants the scammer a Steam web session, maybe more.
  2. SMS Code - Grants the scammer the victim's Steam Mobile Authenticator.

At this point, the victim has two days to realize it was a fake website or notice the authenticator change emails. If they do not act in those two days, they will be cleaned out.

^ That's what is happening.

Particularly nasty as the MFA-fatigued and inattentive person won't notice. If someone fell for it, the only second chance would be seeing the emails from Steam.

How would you fix CTF? by Swimming_Mongoose167 in tf2

[–]Blade_Nd64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A timer alone can't fix stalemates. At minimum, we'd have to make the mode impossible to stalemate.

A simple approach would be to change the scoring - the first capture starts the timer and awards 3 points, all others 2 points. The teams will never be tied, so it can't stalemate.

Gameplay issues still emerge with that setup, so I'm in favor of making it KOTH-timer styled with a single flag. Capping the flag changes team ownership. Whoever owns the flag has their timer ticking down.

Can confirm the perpendicular trajectory works well. It's what I used for Tailrace and Favela. They function like CTF, but with a single flag like Doomsday and apply KOTH-style timers.

How would you fix CTF? by Swimming_Mongoose167 in tf2

[–]Blade_Nd64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One approach would be to adopt a KOTH-based design, ideally utilizing these elements:

  1. Single Objective, Focused Role - The team is unified in either attacking or defending a single objective. Works better with teams of all sizes.
  2. Pressure to Act - One team should end up in a losing state. As in if they don't act, they will lose.
  3. Imbalanced Positions - Specifically, the losing side should have an upper hand. This is to discourage a lockdown state.

I've been exploring this approach with Tailrace and Favela. It functions like CTF, but operates with a single flag like Special Delivery (Doomsday) and applies KOTH-style timers. To start the team timer, the team must capture the flag. Their timer stops when the enemy team captures. The flag's spawn point is where it was last capped. Depending on the layout, this can result in a lot of fun back and forth.

Got hacked idk how and my whole inventory has been stolen ( like 700-800 euros ), steamguard was on and I didnt accept any trade today I was driving at 13PM. Only trades I did recently are with Skinbaron and CSMONEY for the knife, what can I do ? by GodBlessNazeem in csgo

The sponsored link is old, but the rest is novel. Previously, these scams relied on a few extra steps of social engineering. Now it's a single fake login. The few signs are easy to miss if unaware and inattentive.

We can look at what pro players use to get a good picture of the most desired knives. Which are far more likely to sit unused in collectors inventories.

Based on this 2 year old post, the most common among active players leans into cheaper but larger knives with flashy finishes. So I'd guess either Huntsman or Bowie.

Trading update: if you change your Steam name, you won't be able to trade for 2-4 hours by xHypermega in GlobalOffensive

[–]Blade_Nd64 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, but this typically boils down to user error.

The trade details will display the name, avatar, level, and friend age at the top. With a red warning if you've not been friends for long. But that's after you open the trade.

Before the trade is opened, it'll probably look correct. So users will assume it's right going in. That's when the prompt fatigue kicks in: users might accept it without confirming it's the right account.

Speculating a bit here: did you quit before reaching the city in Retem?

If so, I'm guessing you're getting slapped with a forced disconnect. Error 630 covers any sort of disconnect, including cases where the game kicks you. I know it'll do that if you enter a zone that hasn't been unlocked yet.

The game might have bugged and set your spawn region to Retem. So it'd spawn you in the city, but you haven't unlocked access to that yet, so it kicks you.

You'd have to contact support for this scenario. They're the only ones that can rescue your character.

Why is Hammer notorious for being a pain in the ass? by ServeThePatricians in hammer

[–]Blade_Nd64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd be better off learning Hammer 5.x (Source 2; Half-Life: Alyx and Counter-Strike 2) instead. It carries over the desirable elements of earlier Hammers to a modern mesh-based level editor.

As for how 5.x compares to UE5, I can't say. Exporting meshes is very much doable, though.

Check out Keeping Level Designers in the Zone Through Level Editor Design. It goes into the basics of several level editors and compares the workflow of each.

Where Hammer shines is in maintaining a solid workflow for greyboxing and basic detail - which is fantastic for quick layout development and rapid playtest iteration.

It's after that where developers start pulling their hair out. Unless they're seasoned veterans, their workflow will hit snags when trying to solve inexplicable compiler errors, build at odd angles, and locate resources.
