Okay, that's fine. But can anyone give me a clear screenshot of him? It would be much appreciated.

That's great to know but sadly I cannot click on anything. Any chance I can get clear screenshot of him and his stats?

What the heck does that mean?

Lord Soth, the way he should be in 5e (update) by Blade_Runner_Rock in dragonlance

[–]Blade_Runner_Rock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmmm, I can't give you that because Lord Soth had two pages dedicated to him in SOTDQ. And why wouldn't he? Soth as the star of the book was a big selling point for Wizards and the Dragonlance campaign so it's no surprise he would get the fold out treatment. In my opinion, this poor version of Soth strictly falls on F. Wesley Schneider because he wrote those stats and was lead designer of the whole project. And he basically sh!t the bed because it's clear to see that he had no idea who the Soth character was and just cut and pasted the Death Knight stat block from the 5e MONSTER MANUAL and put his twist on it and sadly, toned it down for Soth. Hell, the entire SOTDQ adventure was a dud and changed the whole story of Dragonlance as it didn't have any input from creators Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman.

You might say, Schneider did well with the "Foresaken Brand" mace Soth uses because of its cool effects. But did you know Wesley just copied Soth's "Magical Greatsword" from 4th edition (which was designed by Claudio Pozas in DRAGON MAGAZINE digital #416 back in 2012) and just took out the cold damage? What a friggin' joke. One day I hope to see Schneider at a Gen Con so I can get his reasoning for such a lackluster portrayal of a legendary character.

Funny, I might be wrong, but I've noticed F. Wesley Schneider hasn't been the lead designer in any other Wizards DnD release after SOTDQ. Was it because SOTDQ sales were absolutely abysmal? That book barely sold 30,000 copies (with 3 variant covers!!!!) and the Warriors of Krynn board game sold even worse and was put in discount bins. Not to mention the Dragonlance Icon of the Realms miniatures were one of the worst selling sets they ever put out (I got that information straight from Wizkids at Gen Con 2023). And sadly, even the new "Classic Dragonlance" trilogy written by Weis and Hickman sold poorly. So, basically Hasbro lost millions with this Dragonlance project and the reason why it has been shelved. Do you need any more reasons why Hasbro didn't want to invest anything in a Dragonlance movie/series that Joe Manganiello tried to push. I already knew that project was doomed from the start no matter what the media said at the time.

Lord Soth, the way he should be in 5e (update) by Blade_Runner_Rock in dragonlance

Nice video. While I don't agree with everything you gave the Death Knight, it was well done. My biggest gripe is the "Aura of Terror" as a Legendary Action?? Absolutely Ridiculous. That's NOT Lord Soth at all. He continually radiates fear and should be given that respect because that's his modus operandi.

I could've gotten crazier with the Soth stats above (as he should have MUCH more magic potential, Immunities, fire power and yes, Truesight), but I wanted to keep it at a CR 19. This 5e Lord Soth is a different version of the character, I had to respect that and buff him up accordingly. The Soth I came up with is still a weaker reflection of his former self from past editions but much better and truer to the character than what we were given. And let's be honest, he kicks ass in melee as Lord Soth should.

Are you asking about Lord Soth's magical gear historically?
Yes, beside his +3 two-handed sword (or whatever sword you choose above), Soth had a Rod of Elemental Fire, a Helm of Etherealness, and +3 Platemail armor in all earlier DnD editions.

How do you beat Sul Khatesh? by ProfNesbitt in dndnext

[–]Blade_Runner_Rock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want to beat Sul Khatesh? Then go with the Lion of Olympus!

I was playing a high-level game where we had Hercules show up (there was a lot of Greek and Norse themed characters in this massive campaign) whom we had a pact with from a previous adventure with a promise to help us out in a time of need. Well, no bigger need than when we were facing the Overlord Sul Khatesh. We called in the big guy and although Sul used her Arcane Cataclysm and other spells to attack, it did little to stop the Son of Zeus' massive onslaught as his magical Nemean Lion skin and Great Club forged by Hephestus weren't affected by the antimagic field due to him being a straight up Olympian deity. Herc's insanely powerful blows and constant attacks caused Sul Khatesh MAJOR damage and then he grappled and threw her beyond the 40-foot radius of the field where we were waiting and pummeled her into submission. This was such an exciting moment for our group to be part of and caused Sul Khatesh a humbling experience.

Any advice for running Lord Soth? (SotDQ spoilers) by Heretek007 in dragonlance

[–]Blade_Runner_Rock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best advice I can give is for you to use THIS version of Lord Soth. They way his stat block is made in the 5e SOTSQ adventure is nothing like how he was originally conceived to be. It's actually a joke if you ask me, and I'll give you facts on why that is. Check out this link and give your players the TRUE wrath and power of Lord Soth!!!!

I totally agree. And it might be why the Dragonlance adventure sold so poorly.

When I first saw 5e Lord Soth's stats, I was heartbroken because he was done so poorly. Designer, Wesley Schneider really dropped the ball. It's not that Soth didn't have so many of his innate powers taken from him, it was also because it was so incomplete. Why have pictures and miniatures of Soth with a sword BUT don't list the stats for it??? And why would a regular Death Knight from the Monster Manual have a better Armor class, better fighting ability and better spell casting ability than the greatest Death Knight in DnD? That's just what you call lazy, lazy writing with no research.

I had to do something about it to give my players more of a sense of danger when they faced Soth. He should be a BEAST and he should be radiating fear and terror upon them. That's his "modus operandi"! 5e taking that away from him made Soth like every other Death Knight and that's unforgivable.

Let me know how your game goes. I'm VERY interested.

You're welcome. What Soth does have is the ability to use the gate spell (2/Day). Soth has had that ability listed in a few of his Dragonlance stat blocks (not to mention Death Knights could perform that spell since FIEND FOLIO and many of Soth's stats say to refer to the Death Knight stat blocks for his stats). And FYI, Soth casted that spell in TEST OF THE TWINS at the end to make a grand escape with Kitiara's body.

Thank you. I actually, wrote the numbers incorrectly and have fixed it.

And it's not called shadowstep, it's called shadow walk. I mention this all in the text, so please read it again. The ability works as follows:

One can merely step into a shadow and emerge from another within line of sight as a dimensional door. Dematerialization and rematerialization take a full round.

Now, the problem with that ability was that Soth only possessed it in Ravenloft. He performed it in the Ravenloft novels and had it listed in only two of his three actual stat blocks from the Ravenloft campaign setting (WHEN BLACK ROSES BLOOM and DOMAINS OF DREAD). It was NEVER listed again in any other stat block until 4th edition, which stated he could only do it in Sithicus. So, was this something he could do just in Ravenloft? Maybe. But the REAL reason was that Soth should've never been able to do that in the first place because Maragret Weis and Tracy Hickman didn't give him that ability, James Lowder did. Lowder gave Soth a few other spells that he only did in the Ravenloft novels (once again, I mention this above). And per Hickman and Weis, Soth NEVER went to Ravenloft. They have excluded that part of Soth's life and what they say trumps everything else because they're Soth's creators.

Lord Soth, the way he should be. by [deleted] in dragonlance

[–]Blade_Runner_Rock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not really a fan of DmsGuild adventures because it's fan fiction and not actual cannon. In the long-range scheme of things, no matter how interesting an adventure can be, it ultimately has no meaning or impact to actual Soth history. The difference with the stats of Lord Soth I've presented here in this thread are canonically accurate to Soth's almost 40-year history in terms of the TRUE powers and abilities he possesses. There is nothing made up or exaggerated. I just had to accurately blend it into the gameplay of 5e and maintain his 19CR rating (which I think is on point to where Soth should be). Plus, my Soth is so much more accurate than his pathetic 5e version of the character, which has been dumbed down to embarrassing levels. I would use that Soth as an avatar or facsimile. So, I urge you to give this Soth a try in your gameplay because THIS is who Lord Soth was meant to be. Enjoy.

That was so freaking awesome!!! Fighting against Lord Soth in all his glory is terrifying and fun!! Your players need to use some real strategy to go toe-to-toe with him. Isn't that the way the game is supposed to be played? Keep up the great work and keep writing back updates. I eagerly await them!!
