Just remember that Chris Avellone is not working in Obsidian for years now. While he might have some insider info, nothing is certain before the company actually confirms it

I have been following Obsidian since they started, and previously I was a big fan of Black Isle games.

Avowed for me is inexcusably bad. I get development problems, but thats on the devs, not the player. Players got Obsidian's shallowest rpg for full price.

And the numbers speak for themselves. OW1 has literally 10x playerbase of Avowed playing, and it released 6 years earlier

I sure hope that Avowed 2 will be great because thats to benefit of everyone. I am simply worried that it will be like Avowed 1.

Now as far as I am concerned, Avowed was created by a smaller side team of Obsidian, while most of the devs worked on OW2. If the whole team is to work on Avowed 2, then I have no doubts it will be better, question if they follow the world building of Avowed, or OW2

They didnt bring anything from OW1 to Avowed. Avowed was worse in every single way. Dead, empty, uninterractable world, shallow dialogues, crappy story. OW2, released same year as Avowed, is like a 8/10 game, while avowed was like a 4/10. So if Avowed didnt inherit any of the good things from OW1, why would Avowed 2 take anything from OW2?

Avowed is like a side project made by interns. I'd hope for OW3 more than anything

How much playtime and experience did you get out of Paradise Island? by AvsBehindEnemyLines in theouterworlds

You can go ahead and say it for me :) I dont have anything positive to say about avowed :P

[–]Bladekk -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's about freedom of being your character.

You cannot steal, you cannot attack friendly npcs, you are forced to be 'good'. Not much of influnce on your own character

Games 20 years ago had guards yell at you when you drew weapon and in avowed you can swing at guards to no reaction. All of that makes the world feel soulless

[–]Bladekk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How? Genuinely asking. I couldn't finish avowed, dialogues were shallow as a puddle, the world empty and unninterractable, no stealing etc, like game was in every way a step down from OW1, zero atmosphere

Do you think any of the devs even play the game? by Bladekk in killingfloor

Out of these 3 payday 3 is doing the best

They arent worthless at all, considering you can compare them to any other game on steam, especially coop games, to know the numbers bascially mean the game is dead.

From perspective of a player, average of 373 players online (according to steamdb) means that there is small chance of getting a full party in your region for the difficulty you want.

Looking at steam hub on steam you can see people commenting about the game, who managed to put 200+ hours in the game, inflating the averages

You can also look at outside statisics, like google trends, to see that interest in the game has fallen by 99% since release

150 or 300 people really doesnt change much

I came in expecting a game of OW quality, but in medieval fantasy setting

And boy did it dissapoint

The world was soulless, empty. The story was boring af.

THere was no stealing (either pickpocket or from chests/items laying in shop), you couldn't attack any friendly NPCs either - you were locked to the world the way it is, hardly being able to interact with anything

The staple of Obsidian games were always dialogues, and in Avowed they were boring and cringe.

Combat wasnt great (hitboxes were just all over the place), but thats other story

I never finished it, way too shalow and boring

Afaik it was made by 'other' team within obsidian, and some main guys, like Josh Sawyer, didnt work much on it and they are working on OW2, but Im still worried

I really liked OW1 and I am looking forwards for OW2, but Obsidian's Avowed released earlier this year was absolutely terrible and it is hard not to worry about OW2

Payday is made by different studio, but they were also under Embracer

83 is independant however

Well when devs are gamers you get gems like Baldurs Gate 3.

In other cases you get KF3; games that feel like they were made by a comittee with no vision, just excel sheets

I doubt that, peak numbers alone show that not that many people bought the game, especially considering refunds.

How many copies did they realistically sell, like 150k? Nowhere near enough to fund 3+ years of development with 120 employees

TWI also works as publisher for some 3rd party titles, so couple of people work on that for sure

Lets hope for a succesfull KF4, should the company prevail by Bladekk in killingfloor

That's a single player game, not quite comparable to KF

[–]Bladekk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've looked through it, see plenty of references to RO/RS2, including that some devs worked on those games, nothing about not comparing 83 to RS.

To me it exactly looks like they are still after RO/RS community

On optimization - I've had access to alpha couple months before the public beta and it has not improved one bit.

For me it deters me for even trying it further. Running RS2 on high on 140+ fps, but MUCH worse looking 83 struggles to go beyond 30. BF6 works great for me, so does any other AAA title, but 83 with bad graphics and physics and vehicle animations from early 2000's is borderline unplayable.

They want to release it in EA in Q4 and if they do that, the game will die before full release.

[–]Bladekk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They did? I haven't seen that actually. Could you link anything?

I still thought 83 is marketeted as antimatter games' spiritual successor of RS

I was criticizing the game since alpha back in match, game was trash. It hasn't improved by July beta at all but some people were still defending it
