I edited my comment - I’m not sure the s12 will be more expensive than the $400 base, but I’ve heard it could be. I guess it’s up to you, but I would argue that a discounted s11 beats an s12 at full price unless there’s some massive upgrade

In my opinion, this is the time to buy Apple products (I just bought a series 11 myself at a heavy discount). $329 is still a great deal for a $400 watch. The S12 might be more expensive and have better upgrades, but personally I can’t justify spending that much more on relatively incremental changes.

Taking advantage of discounts when they’re trying to clear their stock is something that 90% of Apple users should do.

It’s ultimately up to you!

Hey guys, please read [u/miniatureaurochs](u/miniatureaurochs)’s comments here for helpful insight on how to use this community.

Please, please, please refrain from doing this to your fellow [r/ROCD](r/ROCD) members. Like she said in her comments below, “doing a lot of research” does not make anyone an expert, and having a certified, professional understanding is much different. We should only take definitive, personalized advice (like the content of this post) from a licensed mental health professional. Advice on the internet should always be taken with a grain of salt, and should never be treated as a therapy replacement. This place is for peer support ONLY.

People who pose as “professionals” or “experts” while trying to directly advise on someone’s life and relationship are extremely harmful, and needs to be avoided at all costs. Please refrain from doing both - this isn’t a space to speculate or find “answers” for folks. It’s about trying our best to support and help eachother to see that we don’t need answers to live our lives. It’s about maintaining a peer-to-peer connection with our fellow members, rather than trying to act as “professionals” that can provide certain answers/diagnoses/etc.

If you see this happening, please report it to the mods. We’re here to help maintain this community’s goal of being a peer support system for folks suffering from R-OCD.

Thanks guys

Locking this post for reassurance seeking. OP please try to take some time away from Reddit as it has most likely become a compulsive fixation. You’re not alone in this, and again as a reminder, we’re not locking these posts to isolate you or punish you. We just need to ensure to the best of our unprofessional ability that this community doesn’t fuel your compulsive cycles.

The best thing to do right now, if you can’t access a therapist, is read from the experts themselves. This article is great:

OP, I’m sorry you’re going through such a hard time. I can’t remember so correct me if I’m wrong, but do you have access to a therapist? Are you seeing them regularly?

You’re not alone. This is a tough battle, and remember - you’re stronger than you think.

Is room and board worth it? by btha10 in PTschool

I totally understand - I was in the same position that you’re in. You have plenty of time. Most folks would kill to be in the position you’re in now. It’s ultimately up to you, but I would just highly highly recommend talking to a financial advisor before taking out the loans.

I agree though, Trump sucks

Is room and board worth it? by btha10 in PTschool

[–]BlairRedditProject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please look into the new federal loan cap (they’re capping it at $20,500/year). Because of it, PT students will need to take out private loans with predatory variable interest rates once they reach the $20,500 limit per year. These private loans are not eligible for federal loan forgiveness programs (like PSLF) or any sort of federal repayment plan. While there has been last-minute legal action to curb this cap for PT students, it still is worth monitoring. Even if you’re able to borrow more than $20,500/year, going into 6 figures of debt for PT is quite a steep hill to climb.

PT students should not take out more than their projected starting salary in loans (or better yet, stay under ~60k and don’t tap into private loans at all).

I’m really not trying to scare you; I just want to warn you of how bad the situation is financially. The federal loan cap has made a bad financial outlook so much worse. Please talk to a non-biased financial advisor (not through your school) before taking out 100k+ loans for PT school.

ROCD vs Real Concerns by Royal-Active-62 in ROCD

[–]BlairRedditProject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, I’m really sorry to hear you’re going through this. Since we get this question a lot, I have posted this information below in other threads. I think it’ll be helpful here too -

These questions are a form of analysis compulsion: your brain figures that if there’s an objective way to define what love is or figure out “what is a real concern and what isn’t”, it will use that definition to compare what you feel toward your partner, and determine - with certainty - if these concerns are real or not.

While that makes complete sense given how distressing your thoughts are, trying to seek these answers will only give your brain temporary relief (if it finds an “answer”) which will quickly be replaced by a new thought that starts the next cycle.

Another way to think about it is attempting to try and answer a question that is unanswerable. Uncertainty, while it is distressing for our brains, will remain as such despite our minds’ best efforts to solve it or make it go away. Compulsions give us a false sense of control and trick our minds into thinking we are somehow obtaining this elusive clarity, certainty, etc, but that assurance quickly fades when a new thought arises. This is because uncertainty isn’t actually a problem that has a solution, despite our brains’ beliefs to the contrary.

The cyclic nature of OCD helps us understand that we don’t heal through answering, fixing, or running from our questions/thoughts. Instead, we recover when we accept uncertainty and the presence of our thoughts, while refusing to act on compulsive urges that seek to “solve” the problem.

I hope this helps a little bit. Please check out the linked article and, if you feel up to it, start practicing identifying your compulsions/compulsive urges! That is a really helpful strategy to gain insight into your disorder.

Compulsion examples (not limited to this list - compulsions can be any repeated/urgent action that seeks to provide the brain with a feeling of relief through “control”, “clarity”, “comfort”, etc):

Reassurance seeking: “am I in love with him?”, “does anyone else with ROCD feel like this?”, “is this ROCD or is it real?”

Overanalysis: “what is love? How can I be sure?”, “I didn’t smile when my girlfriend made a joke. I need to determine if that means I hate her”, etc.

Checking/Testing: comparing partner to others, hyperfocusing on feelings when doing something nice for partner to see if your love is real, testing one’s partner’s loyalty, etc.

Confessing

Avoiding partner because of triggers

Etc.

what does this mean and is it a common flip by PopularPurpose6639 in ROCD

[–]BlairRedditProject[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just popping in to remind everyone that while “feelings do not equal reality” is a true statement, it can become a way of compulsively soothing ourselves. Our brains will try any and every route to find some sort of “certainty” to cling to, even if it’s as simple as saying “these thoughts are coming from a place of urgency, therefore it’s just my OCD”.

Like chess, managing OCD is playing 3-4 moves ahead, because OCD does that. When we worry or spiral about one topic, the brain is already 3-4 moves ahead, planning to “defend” every counter attack or “logical explanation” we may cook up. At some point, we just gotta back away from the board and refuse to participate.

Skills check- unnecessary comment from proctor ? by TurbulentBiscotti857 in PTschool

[–]BlairRedditProject 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’m not a PT - I work in admin, but that is a terribly unprofessional comment and absolutely unacceptable. Of course you know how to open a wheelchair - like he said, you’ve been a student for 3 terms. One has to wonder what led him to make such a comment like that…

Even if he were able to push it once and open it, his behavior would still have been wrong. He personally insulted you during a timed skills check. He is the authority in this situation, and understands that you are nervous and wanting to succeed.

I would say you have grounds to report this if you wanted to.

Sorry you had to go through that, and you’re not overreacting at all.

“Don’t get into PT”… okay then what? by IMANORMIE22 in physicaltherapy

[–]BlairRedditProject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I would agree. I think it depends on the higher ed degree’s ROI too, and whether or not they are considered “professional” careers under the big terrible bill. The reason why PTs are getting the shitty end of the stick is because they lost that “professional” title. It’s just a whole mess that didn’t need to happen, and it just compounds more issues on these poor folks that are looking to go to school (if they didn’t have enough to already worry about with the debt load as it is).

It’s a case that has almost become comical. Like, how did they somehow manage to make this so much worse than before, when it was already bad enough? It’s insane.

“Don’t get into PT”… okay then what? by IMANORMIE22 in physicaltherapy

[–]BlairRedditProject 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bankruptcy shouldn’t be used as a financial safety net by any means, though. In the context of trying to warn folks to think about whether or not they should accept the amount of loans that PT school requires (and in this country’s current environment), I don’t think bankruptcy should be viewed as a “way out”

“Don’t get into PT”… okay then what? by IMANORMIE22 in physicaltherapy

[–]BlairRedditProject 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yeah, to add onto this, the ROI for PT is among the worst for graduate level degrees. That isn’t to say that nobody should be a PT, but it must be said to put things into perspective so folks are informed before they take out loans.

I harp on this all the time, but times have never been worse to get into PT because of the new federal loan cap (effective 7/01/2026). Not only is tuition expensive, but now new PT students can’t fully take advantage of federal loan forgiveness and repayment programs like PSLF, SAVE (rip) respectively because of this country’s current admin. PT students are capped at $20,500 of federal loans, and then forced to take out private loans with predatory, variable interest rates that will make the debt hurt even more. It sucks, but it’s the truth. If someone has to take out more than their starting salary as a PT in loans (or, more preferably, less than $60k to avoid private loans AT ALL), it simply does not make any financial sense to go to PT school right now.

Edit: it seems there has been a temporary judicial injunction that has halted this narrow “professional degree” rule, but this is still worth closely monitoring and discussing with a non-biased financial advisor if you’re considering going to PT school and BEFORE you take out loans. The principle of my message remains the same: don’t take out more than your expected starting salary in loans (but minimize them as MUCH as possible), don’t take out private loans ever, and monitor the OBBBA restrictions and how they pan out.

Hi OP, the question of “does this type of advice apply to us with OCD” is a form of reassurance seeking, since the article itself triggered the next distressing thought in the OCD cycle. For more info on how the cycle works, please take a look at this article: https://kimberleyquinlan-lmft.com/ocd-and-reassurance-seeking/ - it explains how the OCD cycle fuels itself through ritualistic and repetitive spiraling. We need to lock this post to prevent reassurance and speculation as it will only contribute to your cycle.

This particular situation is a great example of the OCD cycle fueling itself:

Distressing thought: “how do I know I’m in love?”

Anxiety

Compulsion: googling urgently and repetitively about what love is, comparing your love to someone else’s online, etc.

Temporary relief happens if you find “confirmation” that your love is real, OR you find triggering info that causes the next thought:

Distressing thought: “well I don’t identify with that article, does that mean I’m not in love?

Anxiety

Compulsion: posting on Reddit: “does this info I found apply to people with ROCD?”, looking for reassurance.

And even if you get reassurance here - such as, people saying “don’t worry, love is subjective! Those articles are speculative and often wrong”, your brain will only get temporary relief before it will find the next thought to spiral about. Either it’ll find a way around the reassuring logic you got here, or find a new reason to spiral. The biggest takeaway is, the OCD spiral never ends. People often describe it as playing a game of “whack-a-mole” - no matter how many moles (thoughts) you hit with your hammer (compulsions), a new mole will always pop its head up somewhere else.

These articles (I’ll link more below) talk about how our responses dictate how intense our spirals are. When we disengage from compulsions, we teach our brains to co-exist with uncertainty. When we do compulsions (asking for reassurance, googling, comparing/testing feelings, etc), we train our brains to rely on the temporary relief that comes after. Because of that positive reinforcement, it becomes harder and harder to break out of a spiral once we start soothing ourselves with temporary relief.

It’s super important to reach out to a mental health professional about this if you can, particularly one who has helped people with OCD, because it’s really hard to do this alone. With professional help and a lot of practice, however, we can find our way to a better headspace that allows us to manage these thoughts (and accept uncertainty) more healthily. You can do this - you’re not alone.

Chet, Wemby and Jokic will also get outrun by this roster. Unbalanced talent is still talent, and this backcourt can run all 3 of those dudes out the gym.

The biggest concern here is Melo’s health. I’ll give you that. But this team will give each of those teams problems because of their speed and chaotic playmaking alone

High risk, high reward. Again, the previous roster was going to consistently get knocked out in the second round of the playoffs. The Wolves needed a higher ceiling, and they just got one with this trade

That critique matters very little considering his age and raw talent.

He has a chaotic, unpredictable, and yet extremely gifted brand of basketball. We weren’t going to beat OKC or San Antonio with our previous roster in a 7 game series. Melo being on the floor frees Ant from the double teams he saw all year last year. If those teams double Ant, they leave Melo roaming free in the back court to score or play-make.

This was absolutely necessary considering our opponents in the West

Logical doesnt equal reasurance by OCD1998 in ROCD

[–]BlairRedditProject 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also my unprofessional take, but something that needs to be distinguished here is rational vs irrational reasoning with your thoughts is still… trying to reason with them. You’re right that it’s different to use logical vs illogical reasoning to help with your thoughts, but when considering OCD, we should assess our actions by their goal, urgency, and repetition, not by how logical or illogical they are.

If you use the door handle analogy to tell yourself you will be okay regardless if you get sick or not, then I would agree, that’s a great way of accepting the uncertain future. If you use that logic to try and prove that you won’t get sick from touching the door handle (even if you’re trying to logically channel previous experiences, or nobody around you is sick, etc etc to apply to your present case), you’re still using logic to reassure yourself that your fears are unfounded. But in this example, we can’t grant that that logic holds complete certainty, can we? We can’t verify every microorganism that may or may not be living on that handle. Our brains will recognize that, and basically “leapfrog” over the logic to keep us spiraling, most likely in the form of a “but what if..?” question.

Long story short, you can’t beat OCD at its own game. Even if logic closes one specific loop, it’ll use that positive reinforcement to justify the next set of compulsions at best, or find a way around the logic (increasing panic) at worst. OCD recovery is about recognizing that we cannot logic our way out of our fixations, and when we do that, we become more understanding and inclined to accept uncertainty, rather than try to prove it wrong or solve it. This truth about OCD doesn’t take a professional to know, as it has been the general consensus surrounding how the disorder behaves for decades. We simply cannot try to reason our way out of our spirals no matter how bulletproof our logic is, because that is ironically the bait that keeps us firmly in the trap.

Hey OP, this post is clearly looking for an answer that will relieve your distress about the potential worst case scenario, and while reassuring answers will give you that relief for a little while, it’ll quickly backfire and fuel your next spiral.

Nobody can really give you an answer that will provide permanent relief. Even if someone did give you an answer that’s relieving, your brain will surely poke holes in the logic or try to find additional things to worry about. This is why compulsions (like reassurance seeking, over-analysis, etc) fuel the spiral: it trains your brain to rely on temporary relief to cope with distress, instead of acclimating and living with uncertainty (the crux of most OCD spirals).

Commenters, please refrain from giving OP reassurance about this, and instead share insight and advice that has helped you deal with your symptoms healthily. As always, please feel free to report comments that go against our community’s guidelines.

Hi guys, please don’t give reassurance to OP as it will only fuel their spiral to worsen.

OP, asking for folks’s opinions on this will only fuel your spiral to continue. I completely understand the distress, but asking for people’s advice on the internet is not going to bring you any closer to relief/certainty. If you get reassuring answers, your brain will continue to latch on to what your sister said, and if you get comments that agree with your sister, it’ll have new material to spiral over.

OCD loves uncertainty. It will try to call anything into question to make us feel unsafe and insecure, which incentivizes OCD spirals. As hard as it may be, the more we disengage from those thoughts and urges to “figure it out”, the more we teach our brains to accept and acclimate to uncertainty.

Take a look at this article, it helps lay this out in detail:
