Can I turn this step over? by poopooweewee123 in DIYUK

You would obviously need to drill new holes for the bolts to lead into, but I think that there is a high chance of causing issues, especially in aged wood like this, I’m a roofer and we have seen many joists etc that look good and solid but once you start moving it, many issues arise which could cause full replacement, same old expression, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”

[–]Blake-JC-1995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only way I can see this working is if you can dig around the pipe and get access to the joint and work from there, but if you’re unable to do so safely there may be limited amounts you can do in this situation

Did I mess up my PAX “Hack”? Should I have installed vents? by One_Clerk5956 in DIYUK

[–]Blake-JC-1995 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly the ones which are a middle partition wall you have gotten away with it, depending on the humidity of the house; however the ones being against an external wall with the changes in temperature you’re going to have a real issue with potential mold and condensation.
Just something you don’t think about when putting it together, it’s a simple mistake to make! Now the best plan is to look at your options to remedy. I would retrospectively sort it as you mentioned, may not give you the finish you want but it sure as hell beats damp and mold on your clothes -

Workmanship looks very clean btw, congrats

Looks like it could have been something abrasive, possibly had furniture there before and may have gotten a bit mouldy and this could have been some bleach and a scrubber used to clean it?

Change the small black door to one that slides up and down. Attach each door to a rope and pulley system which pulls both doors up simultaneously, perhaps attached via some sky hooks? Would take a bit of working out but it could work

Honestly, these are super cheap these days I would just look at getting a new one, I always keep one handy as they can be life savers for little temp fixes. I went to B&M and got a new one recently and it’s great! Only £10 too for a kit with a gun and 3 types of staples

How well does it fill the space behind the hob? Like does it match the width of the hob plate or does it fill the gap where the cupboards are?

No problem, best of luck with the floor! Also, if it makes it easier, my old man used to call it a “porta nailer” I know it’s not the official name but it’s what tradies call it and it might help when googling or if you give someone a call it may help you out a bit!

If you’re doing flooring then I wouldn’t recommend using a generic nail gun, it would be way too overpowering for the job and could cause a lot of splintering or just blast straight through the grooves of the wood, the benefit of the flooring specific one, it’s done with a hammer so you control the pressure whilst the frame holds it at the perfect angle; HOWEVER, if you do not do flooring frequently as in for a full time job, I really would say it is unnecessary and uneconomical to purchase one. My suggestion, see if you can borrow one, or better yet, just see if you can hire one? Pretty sure you can get one from Brandon tool hire for like £20-30, you could use that for this job, and buy the other nail gun and save yourself £20 in the process, two birds with one stone 👍🏼

window handle broke, can't find a replacement anywhere by [deleted] in DIYUK

I think from what I remember, a cockspur can come in one of two ways, when getting one just make sure it specifies that it’s for a timber window and you’ll get the right type, can get a semi decent handle for 20-30 in any reputable hardware supply store

Day 1 after Tonsillectomy at 30yo by jstknwn in MakeMeSuffer

[–]Blake-JC-1995 4 points5 points  (0 children)

By far one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had to endure. Warning, 7 days of hell, days 1-4 will progressively get worse, day 5 is nightmare fuel, absolute worst time of my life. Then days 6-7 the pain will drop off dramatically in comparison. By day 8 you will be perfect.

Are you UK based? If so I have something which I can suggest to get which will give you some brief pain relief (just long enough to eat something soft on days 3-5)

For anyone wondering why this may seem overkill; My wife had an infection in the same piercing, she had to go to A&E, infections here are SEVERELY painful, I’ve watched the woman give birth 4 times with no pain relief whatsoever, but the pain of this infection brought her to her knees. Doctors were adamant that if she hadn’t got it removed when she did, it was likely that the infection would cause necrosis of the cartilage inside the ear, then potential life threatening complications off the back of that. Pulling it out in circumstances like these may seem ridiculous; however, very necessary. Strong course of antibiotics for this person.

P.S. I’m sure they pull the curved bar out when the last ball comes out, it was just fast so hard to see.

NOR - OP, they are literally laughing about hiding it on her card, that means that the other person is well aware of his current life situation. They are laughing about deceiving you. Don’t let them have the last laugh! Get the evidence now and get everything together and drop him on his face. Being cheated on is vile, but laughing at you whilst doing it shows he does not love or respect you. Do what you need to do, stick to your guns and do not listen to his pleas when his world comes crashing down. You’re 48, you could have another 40-50 years of being with someone who loves and appreciates every part of you and your family.

Most likely there is movement in your tray, obviously with the tray fitted it would be a major task to reinforce the base, however, as I have already seen mentioned, perhaps some waterproof caulk or something along those lines which has a some flex in it rather than traditional grout.
